Never heard a starling make that sound before. The combination of being stuck in the bush and that hawk pulling on it with it’s talons digging into it must’ve been agonizing. But that’s only the begging of the agony.
This is fine footage of a House Sparrow at its nesting box hole. I'm making a movie about Eastern Bluebirds, and I mention in the narration that Bluebirds and House Sparrows vie for the same nesting boxes here in the U.S. Unfortunately, I don't have any footage of House Sparrows at those boxes. Would you be interested in letting me use maybe ten seconds of your own footage to fill that gap. I would credit you, of course, both in the movie itself and in the description below it. Here's a link to my channel in case you'd like to check out the quality of my work: ru-vid.com/show-UC-Q-eORu_VVtkbmOgaSpH7A By the way, I notice you've tried to forestall angry comments from Americans about encouraging House Sparrows by mentioning that your European House Sparrows are not harming our US bluebirds. And my video does address the means of keeping House Sparrows from commandeering bluebird houses here. But I'm not one of those irate citizens. I realize that the House Sparrows and European Starlings were imported to this country by someone who didn't foresee the consequences, and that the descendants of those birds are simply doing what any species does: trying to propagate itself.
You were very lucky to have such an experience!! Normally they don't hang around so long and, as someone else said, tend to attack by surprise then fly off if unsuccessful.........
one of the understated skills of these bird of prey, aside from their superpower vision, sharp talons and very capable beak, is their sense of balance which keeps them on top of their victims as they struggle for their last ounce of energy to stop the inevitable. painful but part of nature. not any different from other humans do to other humans.
Dude...Humans don't rip the clothes off of other humans then rip into their bodies as they pin them to the ground and start eating them alive. That's just a shockingly poor comparison... I don't know what your train of thought was when you rittled out this piss poor sentence but please...just delete it, it's straight nonsense.
What's unsavouru about these birds of prey is that they don't try to kill their prey before eating them so the prey is suffering as it's being eaten alive.
Just like humans, predatory rights are on display here. Humans are the biggest predators and if need be we will probably devour this hawk as well. Nothing in here is difficult to watch. It's just nature.
