I´d love to watch an updated tour of this. Sadly there wasn´t much to see from the old tech, couldn´t You make a tour just You and the camera showing the stuff talked about? Is there still operation possible? Could this go on air again for heritage purposes? Man, all that steel and cast iron is pre nuke so it´s highly sought after. I´d be worried that WLW could just become scrap.
There is not enough of it to make it run. None of the power supply that was in the basement is still there. Let’s hope that the owners don’t decide to scrap it all. The owners have sold off some of the land around the tower for new buildings. It must of been amazing to see all in operation nearly 90 years ago. Thanks Randy
Hi, Great intro, still need help! I just got a 1966 Lafayette HA-650 6 meter portable radio. Seems to work like new. I am coming out of the CB and UHF radio world, and have no clue how to pick up stations, much less call to another operator. Any help you can offer would be much appreciated!
That is an old AM radio. It also uses crystals for the transmit frequency. Not much 6M AM anymore. I don’t think this radio is very useful any more. I don’t know if you have a license to operate this ham radio. Thanks for watching.
@@K7AGE Thanks for your help. Yes, there are four huge crystals inside 8360, 8385, 8375 and 8400 KC. The tuner goes from 50 to 52 KC. Are you saying it's basically a bookends, and not to waste time with it?
Yeah, I think THIS is the idea I needed. Just starting out on 2m and having trouble connecting to a net meeting thru a repeater about 12mi from me with a handheld.
Parts came today and I build a prototype just in time for a daily net I've been frequenting. I could finally just transmit from right out the door. Already started developing a more rigid model. Maybe I'll get an SWR meter too.
As always excellent video Randy. A note - the LP100 has a programmable PTT loop through for SWR protection - just added insurance. One question: how good/fast is the TX/RX delay on CW? They specify for the Lux but not the M3.
Hi Randy, just found your channel after looking for months. I was glad to see my trailer in the back ground when you were filming the lectures. My small trailer with the Texas flag flying high. Hope to see you in 2025...Mike N5MLS
I also noticed that when you transmitted the rig frequency changed automatically. Q1 Did you do that by setting “fake it” or setting “rig” in preferences? Q2 did you know to do that because it’s standard procedure for super Fox, or did K8R provide those instructions?
Interesting. I have just watched a BBC documentary on early BBC television, they actually broadcast a multi camera outside transmission of the coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1937 on 405 lines.
The wide graph only seems to open up to 3000. I don't think it's shifted to a place where it can't be seen. If you're going to upload it to RU-vid, you should put it up.
