Wow, this was a superb demonstration of how to build a booth. Far superior to many other amateur videos and even better than many professional / corporate videos on the subject. I really appreciate the detailed construction notes and the materials used in construction. I think I'm going to use this approach instead of a PVC-based solution. Many thanks.

You can literally do this same thing with a pvc frame. Taking the time to sew the blankets is the only thing that sets this apart from the other vocal booth videos. But pvc and regular moving blankets sewn like this will give you a good looking booth and good audio for cheaper. And you can cut in 3' pieces for a more portable booth.

The top bar is not involved in the structural integrity of the frame, so it would not be a problem if used as a vocal booth as shown. But you would not be able to use the canopy top that comes with it though.

This does not take care of heavy SPL's like airplanes, trucks, low vibrations. $300 does not make air tight nor does it stop the real world residual noises from heavy traffic. This is essentially a tire patch. 25X years in acoustics. This is also not a booth. A true isolation booth that is air tight is the only thing that will stop heavy residual noise. This is a baffle enclosure not a booth.

I don't have an updated link, but all you need is 1.5" wide hook and loop tape (velcro) without adhesive backing, you need at least 12 yards. The bags I use are 16" x 40". I've even built a few of these with one extremely large duffle for the blankets but it would be too heavy for most people, so I still recommend the two smaller bags.

Thanks for the content. Very detailed and helpful. I am only concern with ventilation. How do you go about that?
@howimadethat5679
@howimadethat5679 3 года назад
Good question. It's so large inside that it's not really a problem, but it can get quite hot in the summer if you don't have the AC cranked. In that situation we just take a break every once in a while and hold the door flaps open with a fan on for a couple minutes and it's nice and cool in there again.

@@renzr55 For our purposes, it's not a concern - our 3 biggest priorities are portability, price, and high quality audio. We can set these up anywhere in minutes, they're inexpensive to build and sound great. Your purposes may be different. If we were recording all day in a stationary studio in a tropical location we would build something different. The main point of this video is to provide instructions on how to build the VocalBoothToGo acoustic rooms easily and at a fraction of the price. There are other videos on RU-vid on how to build stationary vocal booths. Make sure you choose the best one for your purposes!

@@renzr55 Move somewhere cooler, lol. Nah, just do what we do in the summer - take a break every once in a while, crank the AC, pull open the door flaps, turn on a fan, and cool off the inside. Only takes a couple minutes, not a big deal for us. Also, we've found if you hike up the bottom where the flaps hit the floor it adds airflow without drastically effecting audio quality. Doesn't work well if you open the top, but at the floor level it doesn't seem to have much effect on the sound.

Hey man, I l absolutely love and appreciate this demonstration. Thanks a lot for creating this. The booth that I had built with PVC pipes following VocalBoothToGo's instruction video is now collapsing due to the PVC pipes getting bent. It is not an ideal setup, to say the least so I was actually looking into using a folding gazebo/canopy frame to replicate one of their more high-end products as you have in this video. I'm based in Europe and am unable to find Eurmax equivalents in amazon.de and amazon.co.uk. Would you be able to take 5 minutes of your time and recommend one? I am afraid a weak frame may not be able to support the weight of my vocal blankets. I own three VB-70Gs (80" H x 80" W) and one VB-76G (120" H x 80" W) which I'm willing to cut using a sewing machine. Please LMK, I'd greatly appreciate it
@howimadethat5679
@howimadethat5679 3 года назад
Thank you for the compliment. Odd that you can't find Eurmax in Europe of all places, lol. Unfortunately, I can't recommend a canopy brand I don't have experience with, but I would assume you could call a shop that sells canopies and they could let you know if others are as strong as the Eurmax. I've built a bunch with that frame and can confirm one has been standing for 2 years and easily still supports the weight of the blankets.

Yep, just need 6 blankets instead of 4. Each wall would require its own blanket, as would the top. Then the 6th blanket would be split up to make the top blanket wide enough and the scraps added to create a flap for the door on one of the wall blankets. And it would be huge, I can already comfortably fit several people at once in the 5' x 5' size!
