After making the decision to switch to a Canvas Bell Tent I thought I would document my glamping journey with it. After buying a 5m bell tent I purchased a 4 acre woodland for it to go in! And so the Woodland Adventure began!

You have a lot of rhododendron or laurel on your property. It's highly invasive, over time it will take over the entire property and spread beyond it. The whole plant contains a form of cyanide, so its leaf litter poisons the soil and prevents other plants from growing underneath eventually. Its flowers are also poisonous to pollinators. It's hard to get rid of, requires using herbicide. I implore you to start tackling it, it's a massive issue all over the UK and Ireland, destroying national parks.

Wow…. I watched the “why did we buy a wood” video to this video and I recognise the face and voice but that extraordinarily happy relaxed face and radiance of your enthusiasm 😮 I was searching about buying a wood for myself, I’m trying to find out what responsibilities would fall on my shoulders if I did, is there a liability insurance requirement, after you mentioned the possibility of a tree falling on a roadway etc… and what kind of dwelling is allowed if there are restrictions applied to private land..? thanks for sharing thoughts about all the experience..😊

Beautiful story, you are absolutely right. I live in the french Pyrenees and have 8.5 acres of woodland - fire wood for the rest of my life, a great investment, and as someone else said in your comments "they don't make land any more". Well done you.

UK is a shit nation when it comes to buying your own woodland and building your own home in it! Because you can't by law! Your land but you can't live in it!

We bought around 30 acres of woodland recently, but without any thinking about the financial elements. The woods in question were a place I had fallen in love with. I bought them because they contained lots of beauty and sometimes it is just good to not get bogged down with thinking about what I can gain financially, markets etc. Now, I can spend time producing my own firewood with some of the fallen trees or with occasional thinning...and take action to protect the amazing biodiversity that is present and just be sure that this beautiful place will stay beautiful..... As much as "Money makes the world go round" all this discussion about woodland as an "investment" etc is symptomatic of the way we have come to think....I find that quite sad.

You can buy 3 to 5 acres of woodland for between £5,000 to £60,000 in different parts of the UK. Land prices are quite reasonable with no planning permission.

I still world have invested in a property, even if you had to get a mortgage, if you compare it to rent, you are getting a property at the end, that will save your outgoings when you retire. I hope it works out for you, please keep us updated.

That's cool! We looked into woodlands in the UK but seemed to have too many restrictions around them to do much with. I also got sick being on public camp sites, but I also have fibromyalgia. On our plot we now have our hobbit horse truck where we will have a sauna which will be good for my illness. Also an introvert and want to be alone when camping. Gonna make it a rental experience for guests too :)

Thanks for the interesting video. I have owned a 4 acre woodland in West Scotland for the past 10 years and have thoroughly enjoyed the management and peacefulness that it offers. If anyone is interested in buying a woodland, certainly in this part of the country, be aware of the danger of ticks. Two years ago I contracted Lyme disease from a tick bite, which resulted in me being hospitalised for 6 weeks. As a result, my grandchildren seldom access the woodland unless they are clothed appropriately and legs and arms sprayed with tick/insect repellent - not ideal! I am not trying to be negative about owning a woodland, as it is a wonderful privilege , but just to make people aware of one possible hazard. Anyway I am sure this doesn't apply to the vast majority of woods in the UK and I hope you and others get great enjoyment from the pleasure that they offer.

Owning the house and renting it out to someone else while renting another house it is bad idea. Avoid renting and live in your own property this is the key.

As soon as the Brexit vote happened. I went to live in an eastern european country . over here the locals hate living in the forest so forest plots arent too expensive. A 1000m2 plot is about 20 grand , and us only 30 mins from an international airport. Best of all....no planning permission needed for building so long as the home is single story and diesnt take up more than 10 per cent of the land. Electric supply the lot. Having uk woodland is fine but woujd be even nicer if uou could just stick a caravan on it or build without permission

Hello Lissi I really enjoyed watching your film, I also aspire the same lifestyle as you, I was just wondering can you build a log cabin on your woodland here in the UK......surely it would'nt be regarded as a permanent as a bricks and mortar dwelling so would not encroach on regular building planning permission / regulations .....am I correct on this matter ? Anyway ive just clicked like button....would another subscription help out ?

How convenient for you to say WE own land. I wonder if you own the land if you’d appreciated HIM casually dropping that he owns something you bought with your money. But then again, you’re a woman, and like all women it’s easy for you to confiscate his wealth with the help of mommy government the minute you decide you’re bored of your camping trip and want to split …

I spent quite a few nights in one of these tents nigh on fifty years ago. We used to cross the main guys forming an "X" on each side which put pressure on the ridge holding the sections firmly together. During the day the tent sides were rolled up (brailed) and the groundsheet was rolled back to "air" the grass underneath. The sacking at the bottom of the sidewalls was tucked under the groundsheet and the height was adjusted by placing the side guy pegs at the right distance from the ridge. The gaps between the door loops came in handy in the middle of the night when it was raining, but I think it's best not to go into too much detail on that. They were great tents, enjoy. All the best.
