Typically at the stage where there is an error, I will stop and tell the students that there is an error, but the math looks right, and then challenge them to help find the error. Definitely, it does not look between 4 & 5 units as you mention. (Always trust your check and your instinct that something is wrong!). (A potential lost teaching moment of always to check your work?)
