This channel will begin as a "tape loader" archive. Initially for the C64. My aim is to more or less have all the tape loaders from the major publishers and some of the minor ones. A question is why? Well, most of my memories of the C64 has to do with tape games as this is mostly what i had. Often the games had loading screens/instructions and or music that often complimented the game enormously. This was frequently missing from the disk based versions of same game. I think it would be good to have a clean naming convention where searching would be easy and everything is in one place. Playlists of publishers will be created for extra convenience.
Perhaps later on we might do longplay's/walkthrough's of games that are not already done. My priority will be the adventure/graphic text games as often these were way to difficult for me and my pre-teen mind from back in the day. Perhaps a second try after all these years would help! :D
Thank you for uploading these. I've been looking for that intro for YEARS! I had the disk mag back in 1990 and loved to listen to the intro music - I think it was a track called Mellow. Do you have the original disks or ADF files?
I never had the original disks. Im really not sure exactly where i got the adf files, be it archive.org or on the TOSEC but i still have them. If you cant find them aforementioned, i can upload them somewhere for you. I had to have the .adf files to make the videos. I actually received a very good amount from a user on archive.org who uploaded everything in a raw format in parallel with adf files that covers the entire set of Amiga Action etc. archive.org/details/@albotini is the link. The issue with archive.org is it is difficult to find things though almost everything is there regarding Amiga.
It appears i got it from here archive.org/details/stampederampageamigacoverdiskswithdiskcoversalltested I think the reason why these disks are rare is because they had a copy protection so you would never find them as an ADF unless they were cracked. They come as RAW files but they work 100% fine in WinUAE.
Looks like a decent game that i never played. I sold my Amiga in 1994 having last used it in 1993 to buy my first PC. The game looks like it was aiming for a console feel. I could not actually get the game to run on ECS Amiga when i did the video, despite it saying it would work...
I had this same cover disk for my Amiga 500 many years ago 😺👍🕹️. All of them were absolutely great, but i liked mostly SATU, because i'm a big fan of the asian puzzle games 😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
I tried Satu when i made the video but i didnt know how to play it... I really enjoyed the 'menu' on this disk, the music and story book graphics... Later disks had a boring text menu...
Yes, i think it is on the C64 anyway. I did a quick check before i started it. I was going to give up half way due to the loading time, though somehow found the courage to continue... :D
@@Emulous79 I think i tried that after i finished it but the warp speed was making everything run faster, by upto 5-6 times, including the disk access. Is there a way to just speed up the disk access without a loader cart? As the cart wouldnt work on games such as this anyhow.
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories Don't need a loader cart. Just toggle warp mode on when it loads and off when it stops. That's what I do, anyway. A lot of editing and save-states involved, though if I bypass something.
@@Emulous79 Yes, thanks. I know about the warp function and the shortcut key.... Though it speeds everything up, not just the loading. On second thought, i would probably preferred it this way as it is the most authentic experience.... Though this video took me about a week to do, trying to fit it in between everything else.
I never had this game but i like the setting. I often was intrigued by playing games that it made me visit the library as a kid to read up on things. Who says video games were a total waste of time?? :D
@@toxicmule I would say that it is a fast loader of a sort. Lemon64 has info easily found on what tape loader each game has... I like to record the versions of the games that have the loading screens/music etc, though some images are very hard to find, so i just use a re-release, which probably wont have the screen.
@@toxicmule Further, if you have a look at the entry on Lemon64, it displays a loading screen... I just havent been able to find the tape image that would have it. Generally the very early titles and 'late titles' such as games after about 1991 tend to be hard to find respective images of. I have a small library of tapes that i will make an image of, that dont appear anywhere on the web. I have an U2+ cart
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories Tapes...ok, all my curiosities are answered. =) I just figured it was due to how the video capture was done. Having never done a vidcap, I had no clue. I have only noticed those type of load screens when using a fast load proggie of some type or other. I have never seen this game, and even after all these years I love that the system still brings me new discoveries. Thanks for the info, it has been a joy.
I had the original disc. I am very sorry but every other 8 bit conversion of this game is much better. CPC and ZX Spectrum have a very fine Hostage game. I think that the C64 programmer had no interest or pleasure.
I got the 93 ocs version to run on my bog stock a500 rev3. only having 512kchip and 512k slow. And the disk swapping was overwhelming. On that low spec it wont play music or sounds. However installing 8mb fast ram dramatically reduces disk swapping I found. At least after you start getting into the game more.
I only ever had an Amiga 512Kb with 512kb expansion back in the day. The only game i had that i played that was even remotely tedious as this was when i got a copy of Leisure suit Larry 5. It had a 'startup' disk that i kept in DF0 and used my external floppy to change over when i went to different screens... It was as this point i was essentially done with the Amiga when i saw a friends intel 386 with a HDD. It just ran 'instantly'. It was a shame that the HDD for the Amiga was so ridiculously expensive for a very long time. For this reason i also much preferred the older games of the Amiga library.
@@C64_and_Amiga_Memories My first amiga I did have the A590 20mb harddrive. But most software didn't permit being installed to it. At least not most early ocs games. And everything Amiga has pretty much always been expensive. I still got my wedge, but sadly the a590 is long dead.
Haha yes. And this game is actually harder than it looks. Sort of hard to control your striker. I think this game would play very well against human opponents.
