Welcome to my channel! Working with automobiles and bikes is a life-long passion for me. I enjoy restoring vehicles and motorcycles, building café racers, and working with restomods. My main auto-make preferences that you will see on this channel are Porsches, BMWs, and Mitsubishis. One vehicle I am proud to share with you is a hybrid of a Porsche 911 and a Mitsubishi Evolution! When I am not working on motorized vehicles and motorcycles, I spend my time building and racing BMX bikes on dirt tracks. And if that’s not enough to keep you entertained, I also provide reviews for the tools and equipment I use in my garage every day. So subscribe now and enjoy the plethora of projects I have to share!

@@RustyRatchetGarage I've put more time and money than most people ever will into the 2.5 8v, and I'm pretty happy with it. But I could've swapped in a 16v at this point and been at the same place with probably less work and similar money. The good news is that 8v engines and parts are a dime a dozen if things go badly for me.

Considering doing this with my 71 (slant 6 manual trans van). Mine doesn't have any power...( I was going to end that sentence with "brakes or steering", but then I realized that it was pretty accurate as-is lol) Thinking I might try a 5.3 4bbl with a manual trans in mine. Thank you for showing the later model trans mount differences- it's rather difficult to find any info on these vans. Most forums link to dead websites or contain broken photo links- so you're left guessing what would work.

I did a smoke test no leaks, test coil that passed also swapped it out with a good working one, still no go. If I unplug the fpr and fuel dampener it runs better and can rev up past 3000rpm but it’s not smooth and crisp

@@RustyRatchetGarage - the others here commenting are saying injectors and well worth doing but my suggestion is to start with the fuel system from back to front…I’m not suggesting replacing everything, just considering everything so you have peace of mind - start with a pressure test and then consider each failure point?
@papasmurf986
@papasmurf986 Месяц назад
I had similar problems with a sticking/failing injector. The car would run okay if you were smooth with throttle application but would backfire, stutter, and stumble if you were more aggressive and it was difficult to get it to rev past 3-4k rpms as if it hit a wall. I bought four remanufactured bosch injectors and it ran fine from that point on.
@RustyRatchetGarage
@RustyRatchetGarage Месяц назад
Thanks for the input, I just completely ruled out my AFM. It is fuel related, how did you determine which injector
@papasmurf986
@papasmurf986 Месяц назад
@@RustyRatchetGarage I pulled them and hooked them to a 9v battery and shot injector cleaner through them. You might pull the power to each injector and see how it runs (even on 3 cylinders) to see if you can isolate it before hand. The injector I had fail was aftermarket but the car had been running fine on all four beforehand. I bought a set of "supposed" Bosch injectors off eBay only to have issues as they were not in fact Bosch. I and several others have found that the cars are very sensitive to not running properly on anything other than OEM Bosch injectors...even the ones that claim to be compatible did not work for me if they were not Bosch.

Go back to the basics - air, spark and fuel. It sounds like an air problem...as I was writing this I took another peak at the video looking for something and noticed at 1:36-1:46 as you are revving the engine there is a hose at the bottom of the screen that is collapsing as you try to rev it. I can't see where it is coming from or going to but check it out.
@RustyRatchetGarage
@RustyRatchetGarage Месяц назад
I have done more test off camera like smoke test no leaks, that hose is a cheap silicone hose that goes to the brake booster. I pulled that hose and the Venturi valve and blocked it off at the intake. No difference. I pulled the vacuum lines from the throttle body and plugged them I can rev past 3000 rpm but it’s not smooth. I am leaning back towards the AFM
@djcarbine3074
@djcarbine3074 Месяц назад
Check the AFM, it's common that the electrical traces in them need to he cleaned or otherwise repaired by adjusting the sweep arms so they contact a clean area that hasent been worn. IIRC you should have the "barn door" style AFM, I'd unplug it and see if there is any change in throttle response since the ecm should be in failsafe mode where it only looks at engine speed and throttle position for fueling and spark adjustments. It's been a long time since I wrenched on 944s but the AFM was a common headache. Of course check all normal stuff like fuel pressure, plugs, ignition coil etc
@RustyRatchetGarage
@RustyRatchetGarage Месяц назад
I did a bunch of test off camera also and I am leaning towards the AFM
@noelburns4674
@noelburns4674 Месяц назад
I'd see if the vacuum advance or equivalent is working. Also, test with an O2 sensor. Could be as simple a bad spark plugs or ignition coils not having good spark at RPM.

Early motronic injection systems puzzled simple American techs dealing with generic neutered big displacement low power vehicles. . Nothing like mid nineties n up. It kept getting more efficient. Almost every German car in America ran like shit if it wasent maintained by proper techs . That's from mid 80s through today. Good luck with the car. I had a beautiful 1989 944 s2. 3l 4 cyl. Epic car. Strait up trade for my 91 Pontiac grand prix GTP. So happy with decision at the time. Porsche was bulletproof. 80k, 2 ND owner, European enthusiast. Regret selling that car. YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE HEATER BLOWER MOTOR AND CLEAR OUT THE CRAP FROM THE HEATER BOX!!!! THIS IS REAL IMPORTANT!!!! In a Fiero the crap off the windshield ends up in the heater blower box. The problem is the resistors for the fan get red hot. This happens when the fan is on and the speed is at anything but HIGH. The resistors knock down the voltage. They get hot and THEY WILL start the crap in your heater box on fire. Under the front hood take out the blower motor - It's quite easy - reach in and clean out all the crap. Do this BEFORE your Fiero starts on fire!!!!!!!!!!!!
