I am amazed that this song is so obsure. It was a beloved song from my childhood-my grandparents played their accordions, my mother her guitar and everybody sang about poor pretty Redwing. Thanks to all keeping it alive.

On my first Nashville visit in 1964 I saw Charlie Louvin sing this on the Friday night Opry,bought the 45 next day at ET’s,but I don’t recall hearing the Wilburn version?

We went see her in 1974 at the Annandale NOVA campus. What a great concert! Love her version of this song and it really takes me back to that day. WHFS was how we heard about her. Best radio station ever!

He is by far the most versatile artist in the history of country music. Only now, people are beginning to realise how far ahead of his time he was. Sadly, he didn't live long enough to enjoy the long-lasting appeal of his creative work. Perhaps he is smiling down on it all from above. Roger, you were incomparable .
