You know how some people fall in love with someone and pick them as their number one even when their friends are like "why them?" This is the knife version of that to me haha Like yeah i know its not perfect but something about it...
It seems like that could work, but I experimented with it a lot and couldn't get ignition that way. I just ended up blowing my tinder bundle away with no flame. It could potentially be easier with a pistol though.
Out of all the teachings and demos I have seen this one really explains the concept and process. Can't wait to try it. I would love to know what type of woods you are using.
Lol I kept watching attentively thinking this fire is built without anything but hands and feet and whatever is in the rainforest. Then out comes the lighter! 😂
I have found slate looking tools , and thought no. Not hard enough. Most tools are harder flint typ rock . After this , why not . As a kid Iade slate arrowheads. Lately been knapping arrowheads of novaculite. Obsidian .very hard to do . These are definitely a game changer .
Ever since I saw this video (2019-2020?), I have loved this technique. This completely outshines the V-notch in every way. It reduces heat loss between burn-in and ember stages and eliminates that annoying pop-out. Hands-down the best technique I have ever used. And I saw it first on this channel. 👍
If your lighter is dead, you can also take the flint out and untilize that. Probably will need a knife or something sturdy to get under the bits to get it out. And to scrape some flint off. But be careful. It has a tendancy to go flying and it is a SMALL piece of flint lol. I reccomend laying out your coat and doing it over that or something in case u drop it, if it drops on the coat its easier to find. If it drops on the forest floor u can basically say bye to it haha. Obviously its not a preferred method but hey, ya never know.
Out of sheer curiosity, would you mind me asking what sort of clothing you wear out in the PNW doing this sort of thing? Seems like you'd need some pretty sturdy raingear to be out in the woods and thickets with it.
Dude they feel like they're factory made when you skip through the making process and check the shooting process the stone arrowheads you made were surprisingly not just the prettiest out there but also able to hold that straight metalic like edge and not a irregular knapped edge like most stone tools out there are this is really special and probably arguably these stone tools were better than flint knapped tools
BETTER be in EXCELLENT HEALTH for this activity! I couldn't do it. HOW-EVER, this VID is excellent for showing the stages of using the bow drill to start a fire!!
I can totally see how you missed it, but I shared some thoughts in the description of the video if you're interested. If not, then I probably just did it for attention and good job calling me out.
