I like sherries with my main meal of the Day. A Fino with white meat, and an Oloroso with red meat. For me forified wines knock the socks of "normal" wines. Great episode.
Every time I see an interview with Iain, he always has interesting things to share. Thank you Iain! I’m a HUGE Glencadam fan. They really can do no wrong. Great discussion, gentlemen! Cheers!
i have started dabbling a bit on Auction sites and i feel 100 Euro (Germany) offers at least for me quite some option's. some of my latest Winnings include Glenmorangie 18 extra rare 65 euro, Highland park Full Volume 17 years 72 euros, Signatory Vintage Glenn Keith 21years 110 euro.
While you had the Amrut I had one as well. The Fusion to be exact. What I to seem to find is, that the single malts, that are finished in a tropical climate are more powerfull on the nose an the palette. And are complex as well. The scottish single malts give a lot more body. Like comparing the weight of aluminum and iron somehow.
Great episode guys! I've been in few virtual tastings with Gordon and it's clear he has a real passion for his job! I've been trying to get my hands on a bottle of Teapot dram for half a decade but it's just "unobtainium" in Canada . Last year my dear old mum & dad were visiting Scotland and I convinced them to tour Glengoyne (which they thoroughly enjoyed btw), in hopes of bringing back a Teapot dram. Alas, the 2022 botting was sold out and the 2023 didn't get released until 5 days after their visit😭😱. Also, the distillery hand-fills were so offensively priced that it has kind of put me off the distillery for a while.... I did always really enjoy the 18yr and several of their "Legacy series" releases. Thanks for another great show!
Nice podcast and an excellent guest. Look, I get it: it's not marketed at us. That's why it's 40%, and that's why we're not getting all the details. They're selling this by the boatload, so a few of us anoraks complaining isn't gonna make a difference. You gotta wonder, though: what are the chances of these bottles tasting better at 40% than 46%? Z-E-R-O. Once I run out of non-chillfiltered, 46% whisky to explore I might give it a try, but that hasn't happened yet.... Just my two cents....and respect to Jake & Stevie for keeping it real.
I bought a bottle of 10 for £21 in July 2023. Agree with the guys about needing a higher ABV for some of the older range. Some of the Causeway Collection is fantastic (Pomerol) as well as the cheap and cheerful Black Bush, obviously.
I'm not going to lie; I got uncomfortable watching Janice get uncomfortable when Jake brought up the importance of transparency. She did her best to dodge the subject but what really impressed me was how Jake stood his ground on the desire to know more about what we are buying while under the influence of 21 and 25 year old offerings. If we don't ask and push for transparency with thousands of enthusiasts subscribing and listening across hundreds of whisky channels, then nothing will ever change. Distilleries can choose to ignore this but it's the distilleries with integrity that will gain the respect and recognition. Everyone's "2 cents" will eventually add up.
Absolutely! And Especially Jake's point about the specialty shop that tells you it's cheaper to buy the same thing somewhere else. I really appreciate my local whisky shop for being transparant about these things. If I buy a back-up bottle, I'll get it online and save a tenner. But when I want to try something new and get more information, I don't mind paying that tenner to my local shop. And recently I walked in and found they raised the SB10 price form 56 from last year to 70 euros. They're still the cheapest by a huge margin so I grinned and told them they raised it too little, he laughed at me and said "It's my shop. I can charge for it whatever I want and it's not worth more than this." I got something else that day, but damn I appreciate his honesty.
Really enjoyed this episode as always! Really want to step outside Scotch single malt and will defo pick up Bushmills after this as only really had a few different Jameson’s so great to hear about other Irish in bit more detail. Stevie giving a 40% Whisky an oosh?!? Is there higher praise? 🤷🏻♂️😂 #itsnotabitthin
Another ooossshh of a podcast. Not tried many Bushmills myself, just the odd sample or three. Superb guest and discussion. Must check out some more of their stuff but there's so much whisky out there!!!!@!!
Another great episode. Sat with a Bushmills 10yr as I’m watching it. Definitely going to try the 16. Have been exploring Irish Whiskies recently so this was great. Will we see an Irish Whiskey from the Whisky Baron??? I hope so.
When Connor MacLoed followed Brenda into a bar he ordered a Glenmorangie on the rocks. This scene from the Highlander influenced me to go and buy my first bottle of a single malt whisky. The Glenmorangie 10. I still love it.
Great episode again. Love this brand. Visited the distillery last march (on our way from Belgium to Campbeltown). In my opinion nothing beats the Teapot Dram. Regards.
Another great episode chaps. I am probably one of those heathens that has a view on Irish whiskey tasting experience being within a finite window, shall we say. I have a few Irish whiskies including BM16 which is fair to middling. I struggle with the lower abv and value for money with Bushmills and do think Irish Whiskeyin general tends to be more expensive. There are some gooduns out there though and should by no means be dismissed - it's not all about Scotch single malt!
indeed a really good one. Janice is a great ambassador for bushmills. The causeway collection is interesting. And indeed more information on casks would be great.
How convenient we have a double Moscato bushmills coming up for the whisky club!!! Def a sucker for Bushmills its just delcious and they have some cool cask finishes!!! Slainte
Awesome episode my lads, and great to see unyielding enthusiasm from Janice. The Whisky Club in Australia had some exclusive burgundy cask Bushmills that I passed up, I'm sure regretting that now as it seems like a cool distillery. Will need to pick up some bottles 👌🏻 I'd like to see some more Irish orientated episodes, maybe focusing on Spot or Redbreast releases, and perhaps the history of how Irish Whiskeys came to be? 😮
Another superb podcast. I love bushmill and have done for years. Buy bottles and put them away. Today scotch, tomorrow irish whisky. Trend is forever changing
Quality content Glencadam readily available in the East Coast US specifically the New York New Jersey area $45 Introduced Glencadam 10 to my kiddush club They love it.
Love the episode guys the Glen farclas 21 year old cask strength for local store in my town is fantastic so much better than the regular 21 and you said nothing wrong with it. Just not anything special. And also as far as 21-year-olds go the dewars dd 21year Mizunara oak also even though it’s a blend is pretty spectacular in my opinion
Last night I was enjoying a Bunna 18 and I thought I’d watch this episode again. What a dreamy dram. Then came your Moine suggestion of pairing with honey. I just happen to own 2 hives so honey is plentiful. Unfortunately I didn’t have any Moine but I did have a Smokey Bunna Toiteach a Dha. What an eye opener of a pairing. Thanks gents for that suggestion.
Guys having watched this and saying you'll try to get Rachel Barrie on the show ! how about getting Billie Walker as well on the same show and then we can hear and compere both sides of the Glendronach story from the people who count !!
Well done Gents. A very interesting episode. Jake, I appreciated your brutal honesty despite being hosted and served by the distillery elite. You managed to do that in a very professional manner.
Me: Jake, can you talk about a grain of salt for an hour? Jake: That one time I tasted a grain of salt, and I have to tell you..... Stevie: Yeah, yeah, yeah It took me a few episodes to get use to your tempo and presentation of the podcast, but , it has become one of my favorite podcasts to watch. I love your presentation of Whiskies and like that you normaly present three or more views of the same dram. I get from the podcast far more that from a regular review video. I am one year in my whisky journey and am very thankfull for the insight from you guys. Keep up the superb content, invite more interesting knowlagable guest. Have a nice dram, cheers.
