You guys should check out pokemon legacy yellow it’s basically pokemon yellow with quality of life changes such as running shoes,a better pikachu (the badge boost is a 25% boost,a hard mode and better teams for the gym leaders and better movesets for gen 1 pokemon since they suck and they fix some glitches like the obvious ghost type not working in psychic

I think another reason Weedle may not have been included is to aid the player. We do have the addition of Mankey in the grass adjacent to Viridian city, but other than that if you don't find that or avoid that area it would make beating Brock basically impossible. Butterfree learns confusion at level 10. That's the level that Medapod evolves into Butterfree and is also 2 levels lower than it would otherwise learn that move in red or blue. Having said that, I guess the devs could have also just omitted weedle from the forest area instead of from the game entirely.
@kamizproductions3900

Nah they did it to appeal to the anime. Ash would never catch a Weedle after catching Caterpie because of his Caterpie's disliking Weedles.

I think its a design oversight to be stuck with a Pikachu for Brock especially for first time players. I remember as a 5 year old kid I couldnt get past him because Thundershock did nothing and quick attack did so little damage that even if I grinded out killing geodude id be too low hp for Onix and he'd just kill me. luckily i somehow found out by pure chance that caterpie turned into a butterfree that came with confusion which is how i got past him but many young kids would just give up at that point and stop playing.
@wilkobadberg5272
@wilkobadberg5272 4 месяца назад
The Developers are definitely aware of Pikachu beeing really weak against Brock. Thats why Pikachu learns Quick Attack early to have at least SOMETHING against him. And Mankey, Nidoran and Butterfree also learn good attacks in a fairly early Level. The Problem is that Kids didnt know that. A new Player must literally "guess", that these three Pokemon can help you against Brock. They gave you the tools to beat him... but the execution was just not good. One of the new NPCs in Viridian Forest should have said something about Nidoran learning Double Kick against Rock Types. Would be much better.
@eugenewang4650
@eugenewang4650 4 месяца назад
starters were designed to be overstatted and broken to ensure you both used them throughout the whole game with little difficulty but this is the only main pokemon game that gave you a really bad pokemon as a starter. They really should have buffed the starter pikachu's stats to put it in line with the philosophy of Ash roleplay, encouraging you to use it all the way to elite 4. @@wilkobadberg5272

Pikachu is a must catch in red/blue when traveling through viridian forest but quickly becomes obsolete mid game when you get access to Jolteon. I absolutely hated having to use him as a starter though

@josephthomas8318 7 месяцев назад
Also only Nidoran (male) can learn the very powerful horn attack. Its absolutely worth holding out for a male nidoran over the female version. Especially in the early game where horn attack really helps. Later in the game TMs negate Nidokings advantage
@josephthomas8318

Nice video but seeing flash taught to Abra really sucks. Just get Abra to a measly level 16 and it evolves into kadabra and learns confusion. Its super effective against anything with a poison type (including venusaur and nidoking) and almost everything team rocket uses. Even a low level kadabra will absolutely dominate against Erika and Koga, all of the team rocket encounters, pokemon tower, cycling road and is incredibly helpful against Bruno and Agatha of the elite 4.

yeh same as a 5 year old kid I distinctly remember first wondering why Thundershock did nothing, then trying to brute force by spamming quick attack and sometimes getting past the Geodude but dying to the Onix. Lost like 20 times then I somehow randomly caught a caterpie, turned it into butterfree and Confusion just destroyed brock.

Well as someone who played Pokemon Yellow and learned the best lesson a gamer could ever have. If a charachter looks bad in an rpg 9 times out of 10 it's your fault not theirs. When I was a kid I would also blame Pikachu for my inability to battle properly, but then actually made the effort to learn the gameplay and use him effectively. My experience with Pokemon yellow broke me of the mindset of blaming the game for my mistakes and I'm very thankful for that. Though it seems alot of rpg players have'nt learned this lesson yet including you, if your good at an rpg you should be able to make any charachter work in the game.
@BigJoe2.0

That makes no sense. If he doesn't want to use Pikachu because it's weak half way through the game he shouldn't have to. Why stay using it if it can be replaced with a better pokemon? That being said it's only gen 1 and you can beat these games with any high level weak pokemon if you wanted to

Actually, speaking about completing the Pokedex, if you start by playing Pokémon Yellow you will need both yellow, red and blue versions to fully capture the 151 Pokemon. Objectively speaking, it was the worst version.

There’s one huge negative to the games I don’t see a lot of people talking about: the real time clock data and the internal battery. I don’t know who sees this as a positive, but the clock data adds tedium to the game as well as draining the console’s battery faster since the game has to maintain it and the safe file. If the battery runs dry, time based events won’t work! Meaning the only option to get rid of it is to start a new save file. God help you if your current save file has all the good Pokémon in it because you can’t send them to Gen 3 games. You can only box em in the stadium games!

One thing I liked about this game more than A2 was the sprite animations. A2 went for 3D effects, which are cool, but there's something very nice about the sprite animations in this game, especially from the Elementalist.
@inazumatan7050
@inazumatan7050 5 месяцев назад
Preferences aside, I’ve found the attack animations in A2 to be stellar. Some standouts I’ve noticed so far are Dragoon’s Dragonheart, Elementalist’s Fire Whip and Black Mage’s Blizzards. A2 in general still holds up graphically because the spritework perfectly captures the game’s stylistic direction. At the very least, the game is far ahead of much more prominent titles on the DS that are comparatively “aesthetically challenged” to put it politely.

This marks the second time I've heard someone find a situation harder than usual because they don't use Fighting Types. I'm glad Lugia could help you out and possibly change your mind on Legendaries from the Gen 1 videos, heh heh. Cool video and insights on the games. I agree that HMs made your Pokémon feel a little livelier, but I still never liked sacrificing a move slot to a move that couldn't be forgotten and, more often than not, wasn't very good in battle. I'd like "Pokémon affects environment for you" to come back, but have them as passive attributes every Pokémon has in different combinations, like Natures (but without weighing in on battles). Blastoise, being a bulky turtle, would have things like, "Muscles" and "Strong Swimmer" to let you know they can move boulders and surf you around water, regardless of what moves they have. Maybe a little advanced for Pokémon's typical overworld mechanics, but I'd rather try something once and have it fail than have a possibly neat idea and never try it. I agree that it stinks Johto's Pokémon didn't get more shine in their own game, but I've heard that Gen 2 was developed as a sequel to Gen 1 rather than its own thing because Nintendo figured Pokémon was a fad that would die out; thus, a lot of Gen 1 Pokémon that didn't get much love got more time to shine, even at the expense of new arrivals. If that idea didn't factor into your playthroughs of Gen 2 before, does it change anything for you now or no?

Phenomenal. Access to each starter. Overall changes. Hardness level. Difficulty tweaks. I have yet to play REd blue or green but I can go in with more knowledge knowing it’s similar. The middle part of the game definitely gets a lot harder. Such a good game. Great video explaining

I remember playing it when i was a kid, and I had a hyper powerful character that could 1v6 in the jagds. It was something like: Feather boots, Angellic Ring, Mirror Mail, 2x Blood Swords, Strikeback, as a Paladin Class with ninja sub class. I replayed the game, to try to recapture this feeling, and man.... rose-tinted glasses are really something. Maybe because I was young, I felt more powerful than i do now, with loads of tactics experience under my belt now. Interesting feeling, and great video.

A comment on the permadeath present in this game and its predecessor, FFT. FFT handles permadeath the best out of any TRPG I've played, with 2 ways to save your units after they go down, both of which add interesting new goals to your current battle. You're incentivized to either spend a ton of mana with your healer to revive them, or finish the battle quickly in under 3 turns to save them! It keeps the urgency and consequences of permanent loss while offering a buffer for mistakes and potential for rescue given the effort and strategy are used. Fire Emblem tends to feel too punishing imo, makes it easy to want to just reset your save if you lose like 5 units in a chapter due to unlucky crits

A good and informative video about Digimon Rumble Arena regarding competitive play. I love it. I honestly like how you thought to point out the mix of "platform fighter stage/controls" and "2D Fighter health/round" that makes this game unique, one of the reasons I still play it. So many people, whether they've played it or not, miss this and write it off as a shitty Smash clone, which I kinda get but it still makes me sad. I've never seen another platform fighter try similar, and Smash Stamina mode just isn't the same. Huge props for the research you put into the video, and thank you so much for linking to the competitive community in the description!

For a first time Gen 1 playthrough, do you recommend Pokemon Yellow via 3DS eShop, or Fire Red / Leaf Green via Emulator or Homebrew? I'd love to see anime references in Yellow. But I'm willing to go with FR/ LG if it's truly the best "Gen 1" experience, assuming emulators or homebrew can run it well.
