Great song Robert! Hope you are doing well! Do you still have the name sign I made for you? The one with your name and your wife’s name? Time flies!!!!
You're welcome! I used a program called VisualCadd. It's just a standard cadd software, one of the earlier ones. It's predecesser was called Generic Cadd which was a dos based cadd from the late 80's. Visual Cadd is available from visualcadd.net.
Well done!! That stuff takes a while... move one? it changes the rest of them. No matter how close you get it you can always chuck a larger diameter cutter and be at it again and again and again. It boils down to what we can tolerate in our projects. I carve wood and always remind myself I'm not milling a carburetor intake. Sandpaper sucks but it works in the end. I do try to keep my spindle reasonably perpendicular. The width of the two indicators seems practical. Go any wider and you'll be there for days....
Nice vintage guitar! Great that you brought it back to life. I’m looking at a similar Sekova guitar (different model but headstock is the same) on marketplace. Tempted to buy it but it is very dirty. Who knows where it has been all these years.
You want one pivot bolt. So loosen the pivot bolt just a bit, then loosen the other 3 more. Once you've done your adjustments, tighten up the pivot bolt then gently tighten the other 3 doing a tiny bit on each one, one at a time.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! IT WAS VERY HELPFUL & WAS IMPRESSED WITH YOUR MECHANICAL ABILITY. THOUGH I DO HAVE A FEW QUESTIONS. I'M MAKING AN ASSUMPTION OF YOUR SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE BASED ON THE TOOLS YOU OWNED & USED & YOUR ABILITY TO TAKE APART & REASSMBLE THE DEWALT 733 PLANER. MY QUESTION IS WHY DIDN'T YOU USE ANY GREASE ON ANY OF THE PARTS YOU INSTALLED ESPECIALLY THE ROLLER ENDS THAT WENT INTO THE NEW BERING FITTINGS? ALSO, WHY DIDN'T YOU USE LOCKTIGHT ON ANY OF THE SCREWS SINCE THAT PLANER DOES VIBRATE? LASTLY, I NOTICED YOUR HANDS DID GET GREASY FROM TAKING APART THE PLANER BUT YOU DIDN'T SEEM TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING GREASE ON THOSE RUBBER ROLLERS WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS A NO, NO. I'M NOT TRYING TO BE CRITICAL BUT CURIOUS IF THERE WERE REASONS BEHIND YOUR DECISIONS? YOU DID A FANTASTIC JOB ON TEARING IT DOWN & REASSEMBLING THE PLANER WITH THE NEW PARTS. WAS IT MENTIONED ON THE DEWALT WEBSITE RECCOMENDING NOT TO GREASE THE PARTS BECAUSE OF THE FINE SAWDUST?? AGAIN, YOU DID A GREAT JOB & IMPRESSED WITH YOUR TOOLS & SKILLSET. JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE 3 THINGS I HAD QUESTIONS ON. THANK YOU!!
Thank you and thanks for watching! Regarding not greasing the bearings/bushings, there is no need to as they are not made to be greased or they would have grease fittings, With the slip fit most of the grease would have been pushed out when sliding them on anyway. The grease on the rollers was minimal and hasn't caused any problems. As far as not using any loctite, one, never thought about it and they would have been harder to get loose if they had had any on it to begin with. Again, haven't had any problems with anything coming loose. Thanks again!
So I think I'm at the end of the process with a tram tool like yours - on the x axis, both dial indicators agree they are 15 thou. Then I rotate the tram tool 90° to the y axis, and both dial indicators agree they are 20 thou. Is that ok that they don't both agree on the same single measurement all the way around?
I'm doing a complete tear-down and rebuild on a DW733 Type 1. I find that if I tighten the roller brackets screws to be set; i.e., hand tight, one roller is very difficult to turn and the other will not turn at all. This, of course, before I put back the gear-chain assembly. I tried it out anyway and it resulted in quickly melting the synthetic belt. Yes, I did put the bushings in with the wide side parallel to the plane bed and lubed everything with a good grease. Thoughts?
Robert, I finally started on converting my grizzly 0781 into a cnc. I was inspired by this video to place the z ball screw in the same orientation you did in this video series. When i removed the head off the column, i noticed that there were 4 bolts holding the head together from the front and rear portions. I removed the 4 booths but both pieces seemed to be stuck together. Are you aware of any other bolts besides the main 4? The only other thing i can see inside are two small, around 4 mm holes that look to have threads. I tried a find a metro and an imperial bolt to screw in but wasn’t successful. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for a detail series that we can use.
I'm sorry but it's been so long ago that I don't remember much about what I had to go through. Maybe if you watch the series again somthing may click with you. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Thank you! Here's link to drawings for it on Dropbox: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/i9sr01j4prsr94pw8gzg1/Caster-swivel-2-inch.pdf?rlkey=jxygc43zldmhl2b8hc2yhycl1&dl=0 www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/92wdr14m5fwmt5a78q6sd/Planer-stand.pdf?rlkey=rgd2s1s7dl9szaxlydurmqng2&dl=0
In my opinion, you gotta go rack and pinion! The only problem is that i got no idea what im talking about! I just enjoyed watching this video, thank you. 😊👍
You could change the pulley diameter on the winding arm to a smaller diameter. If you let me know what the diameter is, I may have a smaller one that would fit.
I'm not sure what spindle it was. I think I got it off of ebay. It's the VFD that will allow you to lowere the RPM down as low as you want but the lowere speed will have way less torque and could stall your router bit. Most spindles including the one I have will go as high as 24,000 RPM.

Usually, what looks like a lot of slop is not enough for taking out a link. It will fool you. A lot of machinery that have chain drives have tensioners on them for this reason.
The motor in this one was a G14957 from Electronic Goldmine. They don't have that motor listed anymore. I do have a few of those though. If you put it in the A2 it wont have forward or reverse as that is in the circuit board. Can you let me know the diameter of the pulley on the winding arm. I may have a smaller diameter one that would make yours a little faster with the same motor and maybe a little faster yet by changing the pulley and the A2 motor with the A5 motor.
@@vegasguitars I've got a 5/8" dia. pulley I can send you and a smaller drive band. That will speed the RPM's up some. Are you still at the same address as when you bought the winder? I have that info. Let me know.
@@MyRobertadams OK that's great and Thank you - would like to purchase the motor upgrade too if possible. Thanks again. My address is on West Quail Avenue still - if that's what you have.
The only modification I did to mine was glue a piece of steel sheet metal about a 1/16" thick to the plate behind the belt, it gives a smoother flatter sand.
We bought one of these from you years ago - it's still going. We did wonder however if it would be possible to upgrade the motor to one that winds a little faster?
HHave I finally found a guy who actually does this for ppl to understand it properly? My God. Thank you Mr Adams Sir. U don't know what this is going to mean to me bcos I'm fairly new to this stuff. I understand some of it but most flys over my head. LOL. This is awesome to see it being done bt also explained... U show us close up shots too? Brilliant my friend. I just saved these videos to my playlists.. Thanks again my friend..
Just came across your video. I might be 7 years too late, but the bushing are wider in one direction and narrower in the other. It appears from the video that at least the first roller’s far side bushing may have gone in incorrectly. Just trying to be helpful.
Thanks! You may be right. Luckiy I haven't had any problems. I don't use it every day but Idid use it this morning for 1 board and didn't have any problem. I thought I had saved the old ones but looked this morning and couldn't find them or couldn't remember where I might have put them. I was going to check the sizes but oh well.
You are correct that they are not symmetrical, however, I am finding that putting them in correctly (longer side in line with planer bed) result is pinning the rollers if you tighten them down all the way. The result is a melted drive belt. I've ordered new ones, but not sure how to loosen up the rollers. Thoughts?
hi! my name is Lydia and I acquired one of your old pickup winders second hand (model a2). I have a few questions about it, would you be willing to answer them? If so what is the best way to contact you? Thank you so so much for your time!
