We'd love you to join our group and help us build a bigger, better stronger community for people travelling this great country and sharing YOUR stories - not just ours.
We're also hoping our background in mainstream and online media - especially in the pet and vet sector - will resonate with you as we bring stories from the experts in various areas as well as experienced travellers telling their stories.
Meantime, many of the videos on this channel were created as 'The Pet Talk People' but are timeless and related to our 'Pets' channel.
Awww @Josiah that's so sad but soo good to hear from you. Chula was doing great with the water therapy and we hope others get some good info from this video - REALLY appreciate you getting in touch - take care ok??
Several people asked via our Facebook page the names of the harnesses that passed this test.... They were the Purina Roadie (cheaper at about $40 each but NRMA Insurance tested & approved) & the Sleepypod Clickit. More expensive at about $100 each. You need child restraint anchor points in your car plus adaptors at about $30 for each harness.
All the harnesses should be banned strictly. No one would wear a harness for their child since it does not give the security like a safety car seat. Maybe they prevent dogs from crashing in to the windshield and hitting people but they don't do much for the dogs. A lot of the dogs have to be put down after accidents because of bad fractures and internal causes. All the dogs should have an impact safe crate, which is also fastened to the car it self. That is the only thing that saves lives. If the owners are not willing to invest to keep their dogs safe, they should not have a pet in the first place.
The harnesses that work, stop the dog becoming a projectile. Even less dogs will by secured if harnesses are outlawed, and more dogs will become projectiles, potentially killing someone who could otherwise have survived
Basically in AU all dogs must be restrained using some kind of harness ideally. If a lead only is used attached to a collar it has the potential to break the dogs neck in the event of an accident. Another way all dog trainers & show dog ppl transport dogs is in a crate - but not all dogs like this although with some basic training this is a very viable and safe alternative. If you don't know what a dingo is: It's a [wild] dog that acts like a cat. (And they make great pets! But usually only bond closely with one person, not the entire family. They're hard to "win over" if you don't understand their aloof and sensitive natures, but are incredibly loyal, and protective of those they love. <3 They're much smarter than dogs, in my opinion, but not as easy to "break" or to control. Basically, if you want a dingo to stand by your side, instead of running off and doing it's own thing; you can't scold or intimidate it, the way you might a dog; but you can form a relationship with him/her so that he/she trusts your judgement and authority enough to want to walk by your side.)
Can you please tell me if my rabbit died from this virus? It had all the symptoms of the virus except for the bleeding. I am really worried that I may have been the cause due to spraying weeds with Roundup. The poor thing may have eaten the sprayed weeds and may have also eaten them before they were dry too. I'm such an idiot😢
I had one with a blind eye that was not caused by nest eyes. All of mine that died because of this would slowly become paralyzed and then start kicking their front legs. After seeing this a few time I recommend letting them go early. It is easy to see by their eyes that it is not a painless death.

Test done in 2013 are kind of useless now. There should be updates every year. Also for those asking about which brands passed also ask if that brand passed the test for your dog's weight. I do not believe any brand passed for large or extra large dogs.
@Bob Westcott - yes we agree... If someone would like to pay us to do these stories we'll happily video them :-) Maybe send NRMA Insurance a message about it?
my poor rabbit died from this he was booked for his vaccination the week after he died. Now the government has released k5 to kill off rabbits, before they have even release a vaccine, now I have to keep my rabbits inside and i have spent lots of money on bug replant, bug zappers, disinfectant and not to mention the amount of stress i go through worrying about my rabbits safety and wellbeing . Its obvious that the people who release these diseases have never owned a rabbit in their life. If there was a disease released to kill of feral dogs and cats there would be a huge uproar but since its rabbits its ok to do that, rabbit are part of the family as well. I really wished the government cared about our pet rabbits.
VET talk TV sorry, I changed a couple of words to change who I was directing it too. I just get so angry about it and I know it's not your fault it's the governments.
these harnesses are fabulous, crash tested from Sweden, big wide straps and no plastic clips. They are available from Black Hound (blackhound.com.au) in Australia www.mimsafe.se/en/safety-products/accessories/allsafe-harness/
Good question @Sallie Jones - We don't have any affiliation with any brand however the Kramar ROADIE mentioned in the story is one we have used personally - But there will be others. The main thing is to make sure you get one with all the safety attributes mentioned in the video around the 1' 22" mark in the video.
Wondering if these crash test dummies are like the dummies used for crash tests: Are there monitors on the test dogs that indicate physical injuries, internal and external?
+Lucy Burr - as far as we know they don't do that - however the (dummy) dogs are weighted to represent a real dog so they can actually do proper testing on the harnesses themselves. We would hazard a guess that injuries suffered by humans in a similar crash would be much the same for an un-restrained animal.
There is also now a new Ezydog one that has been crash tested, it's around $99AUD.... What do you think of the Ruffwear Frontrange? I know it hasn't been crash tested but it's a really sturdy evenly dispersed harness...? I think I might need to re-assess our dogs car safety! The corgi goes to sleep on the floor footwell bit since he was a pup, and the staffy sits on the back seat with a Ruffwear Frontrange harness clipped to a car leash (chain wrapped in nylon with a rubber grip) which either the seatbelt is threaded through or it's clipped to the headrest... Maybe not a safe idea...
We have a Veterinarian's office close to my house and they let kidsvolunteer and come in to take the dogs out on walks or use the bathroom. You also clean kennels after they leave
I'm the full time animal carer in the small animals department and I'm proud to be apart of this amazing pet shop :) when was the date of when it officially opened?
Well said.I get so mad when i see people driving there cars and the dogs just running around unrestrained.Love your dog love his safety he deserves it.
