have you ever put a 50 inch mower deck on the 546 gravely
@dkeith45
@dkeith45 26 дней назад
I've seen them on 546's (10hp) but mostly on the 566's (12hp) From a discussion on a FB Gravely forum, many say the 50" deck is ok on a 10hp as long as the grass is no more than 12" high. More than that and the 40" deck seems to be better. I haven't seen anyone do a test on the subject though.

Knobby or AG tread tires will help for hills. My 546 can only go up hills in low. On high the wheels won't even move on an incline. Steering sulky looks cool. I only have a reg sulky and it's a chore steering the machine.

IIRC, when using the steering sulky, it is recommended that the tractor have dual wheels on it for stability and better traction.

Really nice machine! Hate to ask this but my manuals are 4hrs away. Dumb! The OP pulls out a long dipstick on the left side of machine to "check crank case level." Is that correct or a skip of the tongue, supposed to say "transmission fluid level?" Not trying to be the wise guy - I need to know. On the right side down low is a stubby dipstick that I took to be for crankcase.

Hey man, not sure if you’ll see this since it’s been years since you posted this, but along with the wood, did you place more charcoal in as well? I got the 16” horizon smoker this weekend and went through logs like crazy just trying to keep my temps at 250 for some pork ribs. Took me 7+ hours of cook time and really left me feeling discouraged.

@likeaboss0123

Hey, I bought one of these recently and maybe you could help. When I go to start my stove, I follow the instructions on the door. After about 30 minutes of burning I adjust the settings, in stove temp mode, usually setting 2 or 3, and auger set to the start up 5 counterclockwise turns, and maybe additional 1 and a half turns. After about 15 minutes after adjusting my distribution blower shuts off, but the status light stays on. I bench tested the blower and it works fine. Any idea how to keep it running? Need to move the hot air up the stairs.
@Johnnylove15
@Johnnylove15 Год назад
Hi, the fan motor runs off the motherbord. Theres a fuse. You probably checked that. Dont over adjust the thing. Little turns our of the pusher block and 1/8 turns on the reastat do a lot Clean the sensor in the exhaust. That thing tells the brain to run the motor(s) and when jt calls for the blower to kick up, you should hear the motor run stronger. This stove is the BEST in my opinion in that its almost fully mechanical. It takes a long time to heat up like an hour or more to run smooth. I’ve learned over my 10 years with this one that i don’t touch the settings at all once i have it dialed in so she eats one bag in 20 hours. If you want, this stove will cook through 3 bags in 24 hours. Totally crazy for cost. I’d try and clean or replace the sensor and if that doesn’t work look for a board. I bought one a few years ago for $200. Good luck. You’ll grow to love your stove if you’re like me and don’t mind tinkering a bit and learning the engineering that went into it.
@likeaboss0123
@likeaboss0123 Год назад
@@Johnnylove15 thanks for the reply, I hooked up a thermostat to my stove last night and ran it off of that. Ran great, good flame when thermostat calls for heat, idle when it has reached temp. The distribution fan still doesn't not stay on, I feel like it would help heat up the room dramatically if it stayed on, right now it seems inefficient, as it doesn't not move the air out of the stove, and room only heats up using ambient heat from the stove. I did clean it out before the season and cleaned the exhaust sensor as well. Does your distributor blower stay on when the light is on, or does it shut off as well.
@Johnnylove15

We had a 526 8 horse bought new in '75. It helped us care for an 9 acre property with fields, lawns, trails, streams, a pond... Absolutely beautiful property we've had in our family since 1938. The property is in Columbia County NY and we lived on Long Island...120 miles distant. The ONLY way we were able to keep the place going was due to the Gravely. It literally became a member of the family.. Rock-solid dependable for 45 years... I can't tell you all the stuff It allowed us to do. From pulling damn plugs to shifting bridges on their foundations, to moving cars, to hauling downed trees.. And, of course, mowing lawns that were not attended to for 3,4 or 5 weeks. It never let us down. You name the job, and it was impossible without that machine. A contested estate forced it's sale... It was like selling my sister. Best damn piece of equipment I've ever owned or operated. You have a gem there... enjoy it... USE it.... We used lead substitute when lead was taken out of gasoline. Otherwise, I'm sure we'd had to of changed out the engine or at least put in new valves and seats. Anyway.. god bless. You've restored a true piece of Americana.....
