But bro sometimes all our elements in the mix we have to do set their level may be above or below to -18db. Then that case what we should to do. May be all elements are not sounding good on the same dbfs level.
ofcourse each element must have a diffrent level and its own place in the mix, gain staging is for starting your mix, you start with all elemtns at unity gain, and then begin to balance your mix
I find it so diffuclt to gain stage before I clear my vocals, cause the boomy frequencies make the vocal so much louder. And after cleaning up, my gainstaging is messed up. Do you have any advice? :(
for gain staging, loudness should not be an issue, because you can simply turn up the level of your studio moniters or headphones to hear your tracks better, or put a limiter on the master track, as far as clean up eq after you do your eq, use the gain knob on your eq to simply level match the source sound, and you can see this here 08:56
This is a life saver, i would wish to get your own take on balancing of mix elements until you reach -10 peak, or if there is a video you've done that can show this it will much appreciated if you drop the link, but the video is a 10 for me.

no you use fruity gain then you would add your compression and eq, if you have a channel strip plugin in then you dont use fruity gain, you simply use the gain fader on your channel strip

welcome to the music game bro, and as far as drum kits, I mostly only use one drum kit the "DirtyGloveKit" by reuelstopplayin its a detroit kit but it will get you right fam.
I used a hi pass filter earlier when leveled the vocals on the ssl channel strip, and adding to many hi pass fiters can somtimes cause phase issues. My bad I should have mentioned that.
What microphone were the vocals recorded with? Awesome to see another persons workflow when mixing vocals in FL Studio. I have more than 20 years experience recording and mixing vocals in Pro Tools but recently decided to make the full switch over to FL Studio to record/mix my own vocals. It's taken some time to get used to the workflow in FL in regards to mixing vocals but I feel like I enjoy it more than working in Pro Tools. The other good thing is I'd been producing instrumentals in FL Studio for years so the transition hasn't been as difficult as it would've been if I never touched FL. Keep grinding!
I used a Blue bird Mic, ya I got a chance to use pro tools its definitely better in terms of automation, but FL is much more fun to use, and thanks will do.
Yeah the workflow in FL is way more enjoyable when doing mixing/vocals etc. Pro Tools just feels so out dated to me these days.. plus I'm not trying to keep throwing more money their way every couple years when they upgrade it.. thats some BS honestly @@westsidelevelmixing
@@nevilafrika8707 i choose 18db because it gives me a lot of headroom before clipping, this allows me to eq, compress, and distort without unwated clipping, my question is why cant you start your mix with everything at 18sb unity, and what are your confused about?

Thanks man, great tip. Using it already. One thing I noticed when u reset your panning in the mixer: you can Alt+ left click to reset those values. Saves some time.
