I was actually a dealer there and I have better than that. I have Jean Mayday‘s first edition metal gaming token that has the guy with the derby hat and cigar mobster dude on it
6:56 the building that you are mentioning is apartments is really condominiums and the building that you were mentioning is the original prima donna was also part of the Fitzgerald group which owned Harold's club Nevada and Fitzgerald after Howard Hughes and pappy Smith the original owners you ought to be a little bit more correct on your history and do a little more research if you need any help I can always help I've been traveling to casinos all my life and I've lived in Reno all my life from family members of lived here the entire time I'll be
I heard there was a silver dollar bar. Thousands of silver dollars sealed in acrylic plastic made up the bar counter. Have you any pictures? And who got them?
🎭I love everything about the fifties and the sixties...When women dressed like women and men dressed like men...Bring back the good old days🎭 Tku for this
The Sands was iconic in many ways - not only was the architectural vision of it a groundbreaker in hotel/casino structure. It was an original - and change is always inevitable, but its legacy of one of the first to build along what would become "the Las Vegas Strip." Thank you for making this video and for the historical research that you have included with it - a dedication that some either ignore or make up their own version of the stories. 😊
In the late 1970's I saw a magician lecture in New York. That magician was Paul Harris who was the house magician at The Dunes Hotel/Casino. He is the best magician I have ever seen. He is a legend among magicians.
I saw "Melinda First Lady of Magic" there. Unfortunately magic shows have fallen out of favor in LV. To be fair, the nearby Riviera was going downhill fast at the same time as well as the Debbie Reynolds Casino (The Paddlewheel).
Was there when mirage opened n i went across the steet n went to the sands bar. Great night. May 1989. Was there at.night.when sammy passed n all the light s.went out on the street down below on the strip. For ten min. For sammmmy
I still have the Do Not Disturb sign I swiped from the Dunes, so there. Vegas is no fun anymore; it was cheaper and safer when the mob ran it. Now it's just overbuilt and overpriced, and blackjack only gets you 6:5 instead of 3:2.
When I was a kid about 13 years old in 1969. My parents took me up to the top I think it was a restaurant and bar.. it was beautiful. There was a slight Vegas wind storm outside but on top of the Landmark the wind was far worse and those big tilted panel windows you see were rattling and leaking air very badly, I was wondering if they were going to blow out.
I hope there’s a movie made about this casino hotel in the future…It was in turmoil from the very beginning, Sad but had it’s shine I’d say Thanks for covering this 👏
Very cool!! Thanks for sharing... this was the very first and only casino I visited when I was a young dude 4 of us traveled over 700 miles to Vegas and stayed across the street in a rundown motel I'll never forget how cool Vegas world looked.
I used to love that hotel in the early and mid 90’s. Friendly people, nice rooms, and reasonable prices. Of course I couldn’t afford anything more at that time. Sad to see it go but Vegas is constantly reinventing itself and noting is forever.
Thanks for video, I was going to stay there when I was a kid with family but we checked in and there was a fire about a month before and we checked out ASAP, place was a dump moved to the Hacienda miss those days.
It's the Casino Collectibles Show at the South Point this coming June 13-15th. You can find more information here: www.ccgtcc.com/events/convention/index.aspx
I love your videos but I especially love that you add these signs showing who's performing. Of course I know the rat pack but then I see a bunch of names that i've never heard of and assume most people today never heard of either. I like to Google them
PCF...Hmm..oh yes.. What is another word for NERD?? PCF of course! A place where gate keepers throw you out when you don't follow their Exact Rules Sad that people join and follow these nerds
I was honored to stay int he Riviera its last summer open. I spent 1 & 2 weeks there on several different occasions In 2014. I was paying $18 dollars a night because I was a “high roller” I would never get the $100 room suites because as long as my bags were safe I was happy. To see all the areas the HUGE stars performed in the past was amazing. Also had free tickets to most of the shows, Even JJ walker did a comedy show there he was pretty cool! . My host was awesome! He ended up moving to Golden Nugget after that and I went with him 😂
