What? How does this 10 year old girl knows you and your work? From her teacher maybe? Is she a child prodigy "Wunderkind" hears something and acts it out? Anyway! Salut to her playing the tricky furious🤯 ice-nine from maestro wiest, not a boring Beethoven Sonata 🥱
Thanks my friend! I don't know how she first heard it, perhaps RU-vid? But it seems to have become a tradition at the Yamaha Electone Festival. Here's what she had to say: "The Electone can produce 986 different tones and players can play multiple roles by using both hands and feet differently. I found it difficult, but a lot of fun at the same time since I can play various genres of music by myself. At the very first moment I listened to "Ice-Nine", it became my favorite so I just wanted to play it! I am really grateful to Mr. Steve Wiest for allowing me to arrange his composition for the Electone." -Ruka
Well, as a member of the Guild of Navigators myself, I take that as a HIGH compliment indeed🙏❤ (and I didn't even have to use The Voice😛) Thank you my friend. This one (and the story that inspired it ) might just be my favorite. I love the prose-narrative concept...and writing for flutes in fourths. Not to mention grabbing on to a sick Zeppelin groove (just sayin'😎) It was REALLY fun to play too!
I remember seeing your interview with Jimmy P. discussing the project, and then listening to some of it on Soundcloud. Glad to see it on RU-vid - awesome sounds!
Thanks SO much man! Sadly, we can no longer sell recorded music as such, but I want this stuff to be HEARD…so I will be posting all the rest of it here, and I hope that you enjoy hearing it as much as I did writing and playing it. What a JOY to compose and record this stuff, a dream come true, really. ESPECIALLY having King James on board! My long time hero and template.🤩 I WILL be selling signed CDs from my Leadology site as long as they last (www.leadtrombone.com/shop ), and also posting the cover art, and liner notes from all of my projects as well. But the music itself will be available right here on my RU-vid channel. I will also be self-publishing the book that inspired the music at the same place, audio version coming soon! Thanks again my friend. You made my day.🙏❤ CHEERS!
In another era they would’ve said Steve had an FM DJ voice. Radio. You don’t know what that is, kids. The guy can also play. Compose. Do cartoons. Etc.
Well thank you MUCHO!🙏❤️ I’m working on this stuff every day… tryin’ ta get it right.😎 And YES…double on trombone like my man Dave Richards with T.O.P.🤠
@@SteveWiest21stCentury I had the opportunity to pick you up from the airport and get to performing with you while I was studying at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke for their 2016 jazz fest (I believe). I just signed my first record deal and am very grateful for the opportunity to make music with you brother. Oddly enough I ended up singing country music and trying to incorporate elements of saxophone into modern country. That was largely inspired by “Concerto For Folded Space”. Life is too short to not be creative brother! 🤘🖖
WOW! Congratulations my friend! How cool to incorporate all of the magic that you’ve learned into country music. I look forward to hearing it! And I’m beyond honored that you were inspired by “Concerto.” What a joy THAT project was🤠 Thanks for picking me up that day and for the great hang. Keep making that magic my brother!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Still dumb looking after all these years! Big mouth dumb as$ STILL riding on the coattails of Chicago. That band died when Terry Kath did. You were nothing without him OR Peter Cetera for that matter. After that you produced nothing notable.
Thanks! I remember that Frank Greene told me when they recorded it with Maynard that one of the guys got on the talk back mic and said, “Note question. …do we have to play all of them?”😂🤣 But then of course they DID and crushed it! To rewrite and expand it for the One O’Clock was HUGE fun. With that group, you could write ANYTHING! What a band👍🏻😎
Hi Eli. Thank you so much!🙏❤️ I’m glad you enjoyed it. I really liked the main theme that’s first introduced on the piano. Truly felt like Missouri to me.
Yep. That was his M.O. for sure. Even when he wasn’t quite feeling 100%, his air efficiency was such that he would get stronger as the night went on. SUCH an inspiration!
Alright, Steve....gonna take a stab at other section members - Scott Whitfield, Nate Lynch, Dave Bandman, Rodney Lancaster. Ok, probably only one of those is right. 😆....and it's probably Scott, although 1 or 2 of the other guys might have still been in the band at that point. Australia must've been a blast.
42 years after "Trombone Summit" from the mighty MPS label (Winding Mangelsdorff Whigham Watrous). Finally a new landmark recording. This production is so important Maestro Wiest! This work shall spread around the trombone world. We witness history!
Wow! I am honored and humbled indeed to be in the same sentence with those illustrious people. Thank you🙏❤️ It is my goal to create as much new music as possible, to grow my own playing and improve myself, and to do all that I can to lift up and spread the good word of trombone far-and-wide! To that end, I will be releasing two more tracks from this EP, and my new lead trombone book Leadology will be coming out this weekend. You are welcome to join the trombone community that I hope to build at www.leadtrombone.com
Yea! The YT algorithm seems to be continuing to make sure I see all your new stuff...must be a miracle that it's doing it's job properly, at least in this case. 😆
