I grew up In The eighties and Local Dee Jay's were a big Part in smaller markets not every station had submitted to the Piped in Music of the Time. It Was a Big Part of my Life playing radio on My Tape Recorder Introducing the Song sand making Commercials for Movies.
I remember Martin Mull was a big draw at the time from his Fernwood Tonight series, but it was Eileen Brenner who really impressed me in this movie. They all looked pretty young at the time!
I grew up in the 1970s on the tail end, and the music of that era is what I listen to in 2024. The message of FM holds true today when corporate types weasel their way into the radio stations only caring about money than about the music.
Was the opening sequence where he’s late for work and driving the yellow Porsche through LA the inspiration for the Huey Lewis video for I Want a New Drug where he’s late for the show and he drives a yellow Porsche through SF? 😂
Last night I was on RU-vid on my television and this video pops up! I remember seeing it for the first time at the theater back in 1978. I was 17 years old. The soundtrack made the movie. Good memories.
First movie soundtrack album I ever bought (it wasn't a thing yet, soundtracks) because it was the only way to get the Steely Dan song FM. It wasn't on any of their albums for years.
If you're a fan of 70's rock music, this is - without a doubt - the best movie you can watch...lots of awesome tunes, decent acting, and just makes you feel good...I think I paid to watch it in a theater while I was in the Air Force waaaaay back then LoL
I grew up in the 70's and 80s in San Diego and listened to such AWESOME stations like KROQ, KLOS, 91X and 101 KGB. When our lives revolved around music and we marked our small and big times in life with our favorite songs, and sometimes a song we hated🎶
I somehow never got around to seeing this, back in the '70s. Corrected that lack yesterday. The lack of sound caught me by surprise. At first, I thought there was a problem with the video. Then the sound came back, and I realized 1 song had been muted, probably for copyright reasons. My immediate thought after that was, "I'll bet it was an Eagles tune." 👎👎👎😏😏😏
I remember when FM radio came out, AM did have static often, the really was " no static at all " with FM and was a welcome change, along with stations that played mostly rock, I loved WBCN Boston where they lived.
Even all the music is licensed, wmg is the one that wants to make the copyright claim against this film that has licensed the music. UMG, BMG and WMG are nothing but a bunch of corporate hypocrites. All the music would be muted and it would be no point in uploading the film. I think since the film is made by Universal and the music of Steely Dan was on the MCA Records which is Universal property is why their music is not muted on the upload.
I didn't appreciate youtube muting some of the music in this movie. I just ordered this movie on dvd from ebay. Dvds are the best ways to watch movies like these from the past without any kind of censorship or fees of any kind like streaming services!!
