I was expecting the odd drink personally I like the idea of a blind vending machine because it makes you try thing a little out of your comfort zone. But I really wasn't expecting something to help you make lunch.
These are all over Osaka and I still wonder how they make money. I think I tried the 30 yen mystery drink when I went there in 2016 and got a can of coffee worth around 100 yen.
I know in the US that some people get confused. Things like Dairy and such have an Expiration date on them as they deteriorate quickly . While things like Bottled Tea, Soft drinks, sports drinks and food with a shelf life have a Best By date because that's when they are at their absolute limit for being legally called fresh quality but are perfectly fine for a long time afterwards, though the quality of taste has diminished or the ingredients have separated and settled (fixed with a quick shake or mix). Is this the same in Japan, or are they all Expiration?
The correct term is best-by date. It is the same in Japan as in the U.S. But I didn't know how to say "best-by date", so I wrote "expiration date" by mistake.
I really liked the containers that the salmon, seaweed and mask came with. Normally things with these types of containers are still pricey even near expiration date
I could see the flaked salmon being really good in a seafood flavored instant ramen. I wonder if doing that is a thing in Japan or if its always in rice bowls.
i would just get a 1000 yens in 10 yens and clean out that machine, get the 50 yens drink for 10 yens and sell them for 30 yens and make bank. Just kidding, but would be great to use maybe 100 yens and stock up on those 10 yens items, they are cool.
Kinda nice if you need to be careful not to spent to much ... at least with the drinks, the food wouldn't be for me so it would have just been wasted. In my country there are shops specialized in selling products that are shortly before or even after the best before and I often buy there as its usually always still very edible and much cheaper. Of course I wouldn't buy everything after its best before but especially dried stuff or drinks usually don't get bad as long as its not opened.
I would like to say this was interesting. But you got exactly what i was expecting....cheap stuff that was near the end of it's shelf life, that you never really wanted anyway. But i was at least slightly amused by the abundance of Lemon tea drinks (which i can't stand). Hopefully there will also be a cheap trash can nearby 🗑. Thank you so much for posting this video on how to waste money 👍
It was March when I shot the video, so I didn't have any expired stuff. But it was definitely a lot of stuff I didn't need lol. I guess I won't go back next time. Thanks for the comment.
We had a “mystery vending machine” at the gas station when I was younger. For 25 cents you got an unknown snack, candy bar, toy ,??? It was all past date stuff he pulled from other machines. But nothing like you show. 😀
