You can preform basic shelter making skills easier with the $1000 kit, but that also means you have to carry around heavy equipment and non-essential stuff, $10 kit is the lightest, but doesn't have much function and is hard to use. The $50 kit is equal in weight and usage, not too heavy and very useful. Also, depending on the locations, they can get back sooner as well.
