MC isn't an accurate representation of standard. There's a limited field, and that makes anti-metagame decks especially powerful because you're far less likely to run into unexpected brews. Simic Flash was built specifically to prey on Jeskai Fires, and it happened to be generally good because there were virtually no aggro decks (again, because of the limited field). That's also the reason that Flash hasn't been putting up big results in larger tournaments.

@@chadglazier3102 While I see your point, MC is the best, curated representation of standard at least at high competitive play. Keep in mind that the people who qualified for MC are the top players in Arena which means that they had to not only compete, but perform consistently well throughout the season. Thus, the decks that they are playing with must be strong/dominant enough to win on a consistent basis against other top decks and the occasional janky deck. The "limited field" does not take into account the reality that these competitors technically competed against a much larger sample (ranking all the way to Mythic) than is possible at any tournament, and STILL had a high enough win:loss ratio to make it to the top. When you really think about it, the "pools" portion of MC spanned several weeks, so if anything, the fact that the top decks are rather homogeneous in midrange strategies are a reflection of the state of standard. Again, their performance is tied to how well the decks perform in relation to other decks, meta or otherwise, in standard. Larger tournaments are a poor representation of standard, as you mentioned, because janky and brew decks have a good chance at being decks that are more technically sound just off variance (mana flood, screw, etc.).

Maybe if cleansing nova would be legal in standard, that would make things much more balanced...

After a few Arena games today, UW control with 3x Karn in maindeck and 2x Spyglass in sideboard seems to do the job :)

Yeah I just met it online. It's really annoying to play against. But as it shows, it loses to cat oven. So maybe in bo3 with the correct sideboard....

Not really. Piotr had his ovens spyglassed in an early match and still won quite handily.

@@tonysmith9905 Oven is the only sacrifice tool for his deck, that means shutdown oven breaks the combo. And both decks don't have many powerful creatures or/and game ending ways, so it's more like win by card advantages, that's saying shutdown oven giving a 50% chance at least.

@@kingjester5140 Except that saccing food tokens still procs Korvold and Devil. That's how he won vs spyglass. Sure it's tougher, but doesn't mean he's going to lose. And the deck even has 2/3 brontodons maindecked. You know for sure he's not going to side them out.

No. It has to be a valid card name (e.g. tokens are not valid targets either, unless they have same name as a card). However, "Wort, the Raidmother" would be ok, which is already quite close to your mother.

Yeah I always have a cry of the carnarium ready to go in my sideboard.

Last thing the game needs is more bans. If magic like other card games didnt rely on paper too. They could just nerf things instead of ban. With oko they could have just increased his cost and made his turn into elk be -1 or -2.

@@powers_media it is bad interactions though. The cat oven pretty much monopolizes the time while the other player does nothing and it really isn't fun to play against, and getting people engaged in matches is the point. It's no oko for sure though.

@@jackgarlick4449 Not as good as he'd like. As much as I know flash decks are designed to beat Fires deck and very mediocre at everything else even autolose to some. With Fire decks got killed off mostly at day1, and I remember there's only 2 fire deck at top8 and he had 3 adventure decks and 2 sac decks which are very very bad matchups for him, it is very impressive for him to reach all the way to the finals.

Better in terms of what? Arena Gameplay leads to higher viewer counts and is easier to follow along for newer players.

@@Hamurowful standard is more around 100-300 Dollar (with a few outliers) depending on your archetype but yes, that too.

@@mrlescure I only watch these to see what the pros play. But their decks are just boring. The fun decks dont have a high win rate.Watching them play is really boring and not interesting the least. The commentary is very meh. But it all boils down to preference.

Arena is for practice for me to play paper. I like playing Paper Magic since it's way more fun to see your opponent's face to face and see them be shocked when they lose

I'm convinced it's designed for people who don't actually know how to play. The 'pros ' are a proxy to get sponsors. They don't give a shit about real magic.
