My theory as to why speakers wires can make a difference is because electrical power doesn’t flow thru the metal in the wire as most people believe including me as an electrical engineer until a few years ago. This goes counter to the LaPlace transform formulas they taught us in engineering which not only work for electricity but also for fluids aka water running thru pipes at different rates and pressures. You have to look at Maxwells equations from physics to get the real picture. There’s an excellent RU-vid video about this that asks how fast a light 3 feet away from a simple switch and battery would turn on if the wires that connected to it were 1x10^8 meters long which is the distance light travels in 1 second. MIT professors validated the concept and a 2nd video verified it experimentally but with a much shorter wire. It is real. I think this is why raising up wires from the floor matters because power travels thru air and cables on the floor do not have a uniform air gap 360 degrees around the wire. Now for the pivotal question. Does it matter enough to be heard? IDK. Perhaps it can be heard and is more noticeable at higher power. Perhaps not. At some level it does make a difference. Might be 5% or could be super small like 0.0001%, could be psychological. Regardless it is a factor.
@stevenburdick424
@stevenburdick424 28 дней назад
With complex frequencies, the timing errors become magnified with high end equipment. My view. Electrons travel on the outside of the wire. Therefore, different diameters of wire transfer frequencies differently. I use Kimber Kable variable strand. Different diameters.

Can you honestly tell me, hand on heart that your $100,000 cable will out perform my $15,99 cable by a factor of times 6253 or out perform my $6.99 by 14300%. While I agree 100k is nuts imo for speaker cables, please do yourself a favor and* make an appointment * at a High End dealer in your area to blind test cables. Bring your cable and put the dealer to the test. Btw, you don't have to spend a fortune to get cables that improve the sound considerably. The State of the Art is pricey, most people don't need that. If you can't hear any difference between the dealers cables and yours, yer done. Easy peasy. Have fun with it!
@howardskeivys4184
@howardskeivys4184 28 дней назад
@@jaysullivan9545 I am fortunate in that within a 15 minute walk I have 3 ‘bricks and mortar’ hi-fi dealers. Within a 20 minute drive that number goes up into double figures. I am at a time in my life where all my off-spring have grown up and are self sufficient, I am also mortgage free. I have at my disposal far more disposable income than I’ve ever previously enjoyed. So, in recent years, I’ve made multiple visits to multiple hi-fi retailers and seriously upgraded my hi-fi set up. Almost sparking a divorce in so doing. Of course I blind A-B tested speaker cables, everything up to $350 per meter. My conclusion was that providing you use a good gauge cable, with solid terminations I found no benefit from cables any more costly than the $15.99 per meter cables that I purchased. Yes, it could be argued that as you ascend the price ladder with speaker cables, more attention is applied to reducing inductance, capacitance, RF and EMF interfearance and there may be some mileage in that if your set up dictates that lengthy cable runs are unavoidable. My speaker cables are no more than 12 feet long and all interconnects 3 feet long. When making decisions on cables, my philosophy has always been that the shorter the better. The thing is, you ask 100 so say experts their opinion on any given topic within the world of hi-fi, likely you’ll get 100 opposing answers. It’s like Amir from ASR explains:- when you conduct a blind A-B listening test, you automatically look for differences. Psycho acoustics can play havoc with realism. Do a blind test in a controlled listening environment and successfully identify the expensive cable at least 10 out of 12 trials and I may become more convinced. You also mention that if I couldn’t hear a difference with more expensive speaker cables, then all is good. Your implication is that either my hearing is defective or my hi-fi system is not sufficiently resolving, or both. That is extremely dismissive and is frequently used to validate the unvalidatable. Yes I know, I’ve just invented a word, but it’s appropriate! Anyways, we’re all here to appreciate music the way we each like to hear it reproduced. We are all entitled to our opinions as to how that is achieved and are all hopefully mature enough to respect the opinions of others, even if it does differ from our own. Most of all, enjoy the music.
