By far the absolute best competition you guys have ever done. The competitive spirit, the banter, the trying to not cheat is all next level. I have also never seen Matt this invested in a competition. Really awesome to see him so lit up.
Doug fudging the rules is so funny, i can't wait for the next episode where he just so happens to have a turbo, nitrous and a full fueltech system lying around that he paid $0 for :D
I mean they all are. That's what makes it funny. Anything in that shop that they are using is costing the blog money which is no different doug having some crap laying around already.
After seeing Doug's intensity and passion for sleds, I'd love to see him do some solo videos about it! Totally see a different side of him. Sidenote: as a fellow slimeball, I'll be rooting for the yamahas
You would be hard pressed to find a better sounding sled than a yamaha triple! The redheads are incredible engines, reliable and great power with both the 600 and 700 versions. Great video guys!
Love the sled challenge, I was given my first sled at 8, it was a Yammy Bravo, I had a different sled every couple years until my last sled I owned was a Skidoo Mach 3 700 triple. I don't ride much anymore, but I will always have a special place for sleds.
That qaudzilla kicks ass. Those XLT are good sleds stock, its once you add pipes they get extremely finicky , the fastest out of all those sleds will be the ZRT or the ski doo both sleds will break 110 mph or more on a nice lake. The ZR 440 will leave them all the dust in the twisty trails . Yamahas are good sleds just lack a good suspension. With some pipes you can wake those red heads up. Gearing an good clutching are the best mods for any sled😎. Since you guyd have mostly triples you need some good distance to really winde them out .
I had a formula Z skidoo.... had the head shaved for more compression .... piped... geared... studded... one step down on the carb jet.... it was fast... really fast... good times... thanks for bringing back the memories.... :)
Quick tip for the ultrasonic cleaner. Considering it's metal use a 50/50 mix of diesel fuel and acetone to clean your parts. Will break down the rust alot better an keep the tank from rusting.
Remember when putting new solution in the ultrasonic cleaner to run it one time with nothing it it to de-gas the solution and it enhances how well it cleans!!!! Great job guys
That xlt will scoot if tuned properly. If I remember right there is different holes in the secondary to tighten/loosen spring tension. Also 3 grooves in the carb needles that can be adjusted by moving the clip up or down. Worth playing around with
Doug, back off the rear transfer rods, you can put the spacers on so that the front end will lift better, and the front limiter strap needs to be let out too, we grass dragged all those piglairis’s and Artic Crap, and smoked them in 600 feet in Utah in 2000!
been waiting for this!! Also just wanted to say guys I got the blue sxs racing hoodie and it fit awesome, super thick and nice material! bought a lot of giveaway merch this season and yours was the best quality!
im lovin this sled challenge. old sleds are best sleds. those xlt's are contenders if you can find a set of tripple pipes for it. once the clutches are tuned to the pipes, they launch. plus they are amazing on fuel. fuel consumption should be one of your challenges. i already know which one would lose
Matt alignment of clutches is ussally no more then add or subtract a few shims behind the secondary. Idk bout this moving the motor. I’m a Polaris for life and there’s no motor moving to center up clutches. Ps there’s a torque rod adjustable adjustment. Got to incision the engine twist under load. So square and parallel at rest will result in not parallel and straight under load. If your tool set down in garage then it will be off when the engine engages the engine is going to pull backwards on clutch side bring it right into alignment. Idk
Good luck with that stuck arctic cat secondary, my dad removed his whole Jack shaft and secondary and I put it in a 50ton press. Whole clutch exploded, lol. He had already replaced it with used parts so my “fucks” were very low. 😂
Tip for the cleaner. Use ziplock bags for small or large parts and fill with solution of your choice, then you only need to fill the actual cleaner with water and a bit of soap. Saves chemicals and if a bag opens you can just dump and start over. You can have several bags in different chemicals and save time.
we rinse the carbs with water after you put them in the cleaner, then blow them out with shop air, dont leave stuff in there too long, makes stuff turn funny colors
Love the video as usual, fellow Michigan guy here 👍 just one word of advice with the ultrasonic cleaner you shouldn't put your hands in it when running. Keep the great content coming boy's 😁
Still got my 97 zr580 EFI black magic stage 3 (EVERYTHING) well modded aslo Homemade lift in Rear tunnel with new bogie wheels for best modern look sits nice too not low lol Sled still pulls anything next to it with picked track from a dig to 100mph it hangs with brand new 1000s 🔥 Best machine ever made
Grew up riding 60s 70 s sleds old scorpion, merc, ski do ,any sled with a motor.Road them across dirt fields on the rivers ran the hell out of them ,the good old days.
hey nick, fill you ultrasonic cleaner tank with plain water. get yourself some plastic jars like the peanut butter ones add fill those with gas or strong cleaner and put your carb and little parts in the jar. the ultrasonic will go right thru the jar and clean them in the jar. after a while you just dump the little jars liquid out, not the entire tank of cleaner. plus all the parts for that carb are in the jar and not lost. you will never have to dump a entire tank out again. get a few jars plastic or glass jars, doesnt matter and you can run it over night and never have missing parts.
Also the parts shouldn't be sitting directly on the bottom of the tank. Most importantly never stick your hand in it with it turned on. It can cause damage to your body internally.
Just a note… you can put stuff in jars with solution and just fill the cleaner with water. Will help you from getting all solution dirty or if using different solutions. May not work in all scenarios but is an option.
Nice I recently purchased one that has been sitting for 20 years lol any tips or anything about them? It’s low mileage and everything just curious about that sled in particular.
@@ronnieheath6840 I've had alot of different polaris sleds so far in my life.. My 1997 xlt 600 was one of the lesser problem sleds.. It had about 3400 miles on it.. As long as the carbs are clean and the floats don't stick they run great.. if you have a problem with flooding make sure to take the 3 (10mm) bolts that are located at the bottom of the block out to drain the fuel so you don't wipe your bearings out. Also make sure you run the proper spark plugs for your region so it is not too hot or cold of a plug... They are great sleds . I wish you alot of luck and fun with it.
@@ronnieheath6840 make sure the carbs are all in sync and open equally as well.. with the motor not running , you can do that by taking the air box off and seeing where the carb slides are sitting with no throttle . Then hold open throttle to make sure they are all open equally.(make sure when re installing the air box it is sealed well or you will get a bog).. proper operating carbs will ensure easier starting , proper air to fuel ratio and power.. I assume the jets are stock in them for your region. Proper jetting can really wake or break a machine.. make sure you grease all fittings and to hold on and have fun 👍
As someone with a fair amount of arcticcat experience I cam in fact say that early zr and zrts chassis were awesome new but they work loose quickly I've personally re done one my father's redone one and my brother's redone one it's common for the rivets to loosen up but with some time and new rivets they usually can be restrengthend up
Man I feel bad for Ryan and that damn v8 things gutless for days, love seeing you all have fun. This challenge idea has to be a permanent fixture in the channel teams and builds.
On the XLT We should call it Extra lettuce and tomatoes make sure to pull your 10 mm bolts below your exhaust drain out any gunk in your crank. They like to hold juice down there😂
I'm sure Doug has already ported and polished his cylinders, shaved the head And has the clutching set up on point and then rejected the carbs, watch and see, these Yamaha is no joke... Arctic cat also, do a few things to any triple and it will sing you the best song in the would...love a triple lol. Can't wait for the next video
Don't forget to adjust the suspension for a better grip. Yamaha transfer bars, Ski Doo strap on the front, Polaris strap on the front and softer spring preloads.
Doug, when all my 800 buddies constantly question why my 600 seems to run so good I just tell them I try to make sure everything is properly cleaned and adjusted
I must say. This SXS blog sweatshirt I'm wearing is top quality fellas! Sometimes you don't always know what you'll get but this thing is thick and warm! 👍
Fun fact about that ultrasonic cleaner, hold the power button for turning the ultrasonic on, and it will go to 99 minutes instead of 30 minute max.....
Wheelies have more to do with limiter strap settings then anything else. I run mine tight, loose is fast……and with no brakes you still have some chance of making a corner you went into way to hot.
