This is the best poker strategy video I've seen in quite a long time. In some spots I'm desperately trying to make sense of what the machine says, having no idea whether I'll ever even need this particular move or a certain hand in the line. Thanks Uri! PS: and you started the vid where it actually starts, without unnecessarily inserting 10 seconds from the middle into the beginning, extra thanks for that :)
I love your content Uri. That being said I think you may have been slightly off base when it comes to your final summary here. You say that, against most people, raising a 8s or 5s would be bad and raising 76 would be good. I get that not everyone is constructing a strategy which counteracts check raises with 76 but I don't think that is the principle reason for check raising a pair here. Ranges are super narrow in this spot. By the pio solution for villian bets for a small sizing on the turn it has only 9.7 combos in range. The strongest hands in that range are K8s, K5s and 85s. It looks to me that at least 1/3 of the value range contains an 8 or 5. If you want to block value, an 8,5,K or A are good. A raises here but thats for value, K needs no protection. An 8 or a 5 however both block his continuing range and benefit when his unpaired bluffs fold. This distinction matters because even lower stakes players will raise two pair hands (and might not realise that sets want to trap at spr 5)
That's a good point for sure and definitely part of what's going on, but still in the end checkraising 56 on the turn is mixed/indifferent, which means that if we skew villain's range to just not have the higher pairs barreling, 56s will probably become a pure turn call, leaving us to pick bluffs probably from amongst our draws. I agree I should have mentioned it more for sure.
Very interessting , thx for youre job Uri! I wonder if could be interessant to analyse some of the hands that pluribus play? Thx again for the amazing content
