I had to reupload because of a video syncing issue with the Geekria section. Appreciate you all that tuned in early for the first video. Hopefully this one is a bit cleaner on the audio sync.

There was some weird audio switching around 1:48 and 8:55 due to Audacity glitching out and switching my microphone. The audio quality should be back to normal about a minute after those time stamps. Sorry for the quality dip - but hope you enjoy the other parts of the video.

Didn't know cushions could make such a different in a headphone. It was crazy to hear how deep the bass got, how there became more clarity, and how it added a wider sound with the Yaxi pads and the G-cushions. sick video!

Yah it's a New world to new too. Playing with the koss lineup is a good way to cheaply play around with cushion set ups and learn how they change the sound. Really happy you got some value out of the vid!! 🙌

Never tried the Yaxi's but they sounded REALLY good in your demo's! I have the large pads on mine and enjoy them a lot! Often times I forget there are headphones on my head and think my speakers are on due to the spacial cues. Pretty phenomenal! Have several pair of headphones and all are much more expensive. I reach for these just as often and if not more. Wanted to edit just to say that not only the spacial cues but the weight of these with the larger pads....you sometimes forget that you have anything on your head at all and that i'm listening to my speakers.

Yah it's amazing how good these sound at such a low price..it was fun swapping pads and was glad I didn't have to break the bank for an entry level mod.

Off to buy another pair of Yaxi earpads. The Yaxi pads sound amazing on the Porta Pros and drastically improves comfort.

Just bought these ear pad to try this mod, and they improve the sound a whole lot! I had to eq them to my taste tho because removing the original pad will make too bright for me. Quick q, how do we stabilize the Geekria ear pad on the KPH30i ear cup? They always move around as it's not a snug fit between the new pads and the ear cups

Mine don't move around too much after I cut a slit for the chord..do you intent to keep them modded? If so glue could work.. otherwise I'd have to think on that more/ experiment

Hey great tutorial! Been considering these over the Porta Pros as these tend to deliver more of a balanced sound apparently, meaning less boominess, more clarity but still punchy enough for bass. That said I wonder if the drivers on these have the same joint mechanism as the Porta Pros do, thereby making them interchangeable? The headband on the Porta Pros does look more retro-themed, hence my consideration.

The driver housing is different on the kph30i and they don't pop off like the porta pros, kph40 or ksc75s. However, you can snap on the ksc75s onto the porta pro headband. Il have to do a video on quick mods like that sometime.

Awesome video and demo!! I'm thinking of picking these up but i'm torn between these clear kph30i, kph40 utility or the standard porta pros... I listen to mostly rock but i do enjoy other genres like jazz and such, wich would you pick??

Lol luckily I have videos on all of those for you to cross reference! But as a quick overview: -Kph30i are the most neutral of the bunch. It won't have the same punch but you'll get clarity, balance and separation better than the others -porta pros are very warm and bass punches heavy but it can leave higher or softer vocalists overpowered -kph40 is kind of a mixed bag because you have options of both the 3.5mm connector and the usb-c connectors and you'll get different characteristics depending on what you choose. I'd suggest checking that video out as I talk about that difference in depth in the sound analysis section. Likelihood this would be the way to go especially since the drivers are the same as the porta pros but the sound is a bit cleaner. Happy New Year! I bought the 30, but ack the pads. Like having itchy wool bothering you more the longer you have it on your skin. So I planned to return them after the 40's got here (Drop with the 3 sets of pads, black, blue, red) Ah these are butter! And then I come across your video. Now the Geekria why wouldnt you put the pads over the existing Koss pads? Since the largish hole is in the new ones? Would you could you try that for me before you peel out the pads? I dont want to peel the pads and not be able to return it if the pads dont really make them awesome, or really become redundant as I have/enjoy the 40's. Thank you.

The recommendation by modders is to remove the foam from the earpads before using the Geekria. This is because the speaker will be further from your ears and not up against your ears like the more traditional pads. The foam would just dampen the impact of you were to use both the yaxi and Geekria together. It's still serviceable but you might not get the most ideal results.

FYI: The Dekoni pads for Grados are awful for the KPH30i. The sibilance in the recording of those two guys talking. ouch.

Maybe the geekria a little but it will still leak sound... The headphones are open back so it's hard to create a closed back experience with add Ons. If you're looking for more isolation then these aren't the headphones for you
