Something little that I appreciate so much is that you don’t put background music when you’re not talking for a few seconds. So many youtubers do that and it’s so loud 😂 love you Tati! ♥️
OK so, *I've been doing a deep dive on Korean makeup the last few days* (cushions originated in S Korea) and these are a few rules. 1. use the anti bacterial sponge included, they are specifically designed to work with the formula. 2. never swipe, drag or roll. this causes streaks 3. use a light hand to pat a thin veil gently across face, 4. the whole point of K-beauty is to look like real healthy skin. ultra dewy, moist, glowing, NOT foundation 5. Try to avoid powder, the whole point is to look dewy af, if you must, keep it to the t-zone 6. If you have oily skin, pick a mattifying /oil control formula which will still glow, but last longer. Hope this helps anyone wanting to understand BB/Foundatin Cushions, its a fun concept!
Yeah its crazy how different beauty standards have developed all over the world. Different countries value different things. the West is all about High-impact instagramable flawless perfection atm. Which is why approaching eastern products like BB creams, CC creams, Cushions etc. and expecting western results doesn't always translate. it's a bit of a learning curve, but its like you mentioned, its understanding the 'Purpose' of the product that is key!
I know this is a foundation review but I'm obsessed with your eye makeup today! Your eyes are MADE for that look. Also, BooOooooOOka makes my day everytime
Tati, I would love to see you do a NO FOUNDATION CHALLENGE! I don't know if that's a thing or if I just made it up, but basically do your entire makeup routine (full glam not no makeup makeup days) just without the foundation to see how big of a difference it makes in the way things apply, the way things end up looking, how you end up feeling about your makeup, etc...
@@sridurgaramesh1878 Same! I never wear foundation just because I feel like I'm going to get it everywhere, but I do basically everything else. I've always wondered if there's an actual benefit to wearing it (besides the obvious covering of your skin).
Yes! I literally apply a tiny bit of concealer or foundation around my nose to smooth my redness and then everything else I go ham on; it always looks more natural and less cakey!
You MUST wear that greenish color on the inner part of your lid...like everyday of your life. It's remarkable and makes your eyes look like beautiful lights.
I love how James really pays attention to your makeup and that he knows what he’s talking about. I’m guessing most husbands wouldn’t know what it means for a foundation to “break apart”.
So often, when you film James making observations about your makeup, I show my husband, and say, "See? Tati's husband knows the difference!" I'm gonna keep workin on him.
It’d be cool if you did a comparative review between two beauty subscription boxes? That would be helpful when there’s like 50 different boxes. High price vs. low price?
She's crazy to toss those pads. The cushion foundations are made to be applied with them, and I always need to toss mine before I am done with the makeup. I wish all the cushion foundations came with a few extras. Anyway, I'd be more than happy to pick Tati's trash off the floor and put it to good use.
when Tati's testing a foundation that is the same cost as my grocery bill... Man Jame's critique when she does a check-in was so informative!! If I asked my husband his opinion he'd be like.."it's meh" lol
The reason cushion foundations were made in Korea (origin) was because everyone likes that dewy glass skin look. Similar to japan etc. Most Koreans don’t powder the foundation down and like that dewy look, which could be why putting powder on top causes it to kind of bunch up and coagulate
John Vogt unfortunately that’s the culture in Korea. If you ever visit Korea you’ll realise that almost everyone there is wearing makeup but all of them look natural and are very different from American beauty standards.
Trey I understand completely. Asian countries wish to be lighter in complexion where as in the United States its all about being tan and glowy skin. Personally I’m all about the Asian beauty standards and glass skin and skin care prep. 👍🏻
ha! I just filmed a review & dupe for the regular La Mer foundation yesterday! Probably won't be up for a few days, but now I'm curious about this cushion one!!
Am I the only one that likes the sponge that comes with cushion foundations? I normally use a brush or bb for the rest. But for some reason I feel less worried about bacterias if I use the sponge that comes with it. Love your videos Taty!
Hi Tati, those sponge pad thing you threw out is probably one of the best foundation applying tools. It does take some time to get used to it, but this sponge will distribute the foundation so well without moving around the product! you have to give it a try, just remember, tap tap tap and they are really good at covering the pores.
When i worked for AmorePacific I remember they told me to never use powder with cushion foundation as they are not designed for that. Maybe same story here?
Natie Johnsen i use powders with Dior dream skin cushion and don’t have any problems, but that one has that matte / radiant (from pearlescent powder, not dewy) finish. This cushion does look like it could be the reason the powders were not blending well.
From my experience, I can set it with any powder without a problem (as long as I do not smash it on like baking) but a lot of Asian girls definitely enjoy the subtle glow brought by the cushion so they don't set it.
Not that Ive ever used a cushion but that was what I was kind of assuming because cushion had always been marketed as makeup but not. I was scrolling to see if anyone more knowledgeable knew anything about this so Thanks lol.
(Haven't finished video) I actually like the air puffs that come with cushion foundations, it doesn't get streaky for me. For the uninitiated: It's like using a beauty blender, it needs to be tapped into the skin and rolled slightly, it never should be dragged in any fashion, and it should be used by putting the little strip of fabric around your fingers so that your finger pads are against the back of the puff. But I can understand, some cushion foundations come with air puffs that aren't that great, I'd suggest to anyone who loves cushion foundations to order from Yesstyle, and purchase the air puff from brands like: memebox/I'm meme, holika holika, peripera, innisfree, etude house, etc. (Now back to the video!)
I agree. And when she used the brush, she was tapping the product on as though it was a sponge instead of sweeping and blending/buffing the brush properly. Since she wants a higher coverage she should have used a beauty blender or a similar sponge. Brush tends to apply the base more sheer than the sponge.
I think what James was seeing WAS the bronzer because after you first applied it I was thinking "damn, she went hard with the bronzer!" I don't think it's bad and I'm pretty sure it you tried again without the J One Jelly pack, it would be better!
It was bronzer he saw first but not because it was alot of it... But because it was collecting and caking. As Tati said, the foundation made powders grab.
YESSS TATI!!! That zoom!!! Very much appreciated. ❤️ love you so much!! & sending you some cold weather vibes from WA State. Currently in Tacoma, WA, it's freezing. 😅
YES I appreciated the zoom in too, she's been listening! Also I saw your comment and was thinking it's not been cold lately, it's still starting to warm up but not cold, and where's Tacoma? Then realised you're talking about Washington, USA and not Western Australia :')
These last few days I was so surprised that Tati’s videos appear one hour earlier than normal.. Reason: in the Netherlands we already changed our time due to DST 😅
Nah they need more shades. Most foundation shades are only cool OR warm toned, which means that even pale me who should usually have a lot of options is SOL since I'm neutral/olive. It seems foundation companies don't think I exist... Pale olive toned people are people too!
Same boat. Very fair native American. Have true olive undertones. The foundation struggle is real. Have yet to find one that doesn't look weird on me! 😢
I'm an olive warm tone, so it's hard for me sometimes too. I agree. There really needs to be a range; every color has a slight differences because that's how people work.
Since you've tried a few cushion foundations, you should try more of the K-beauty cushion foundations like you did the Laneige one. Innisfree is another brand that was one of the first cushion foundations, Laneige being the first, and some of the other K brands. It would be so interesting to see your thoughts on other K-beauty brands. Or if you could try out more of the Laneige line? Thanks Tati! You are so amazing!
Cecile S. I’m kind of scared of her reviewing korean cushion foundations because she tends to be a little biased because of the way she likes to do her makeup. I own a k chusion foundation and it’s amazing. Tati does full face makeup and korean cushions aren’t really meant for that
I have the Missha one and it has been such a lifechanger for me...to be honest it depends so much on what you prefer so i don‘t want her to review that one...it‘s not her type of foundation.
Ouch. You’re making a mistake somewhere then. I hope you’re kidding. I only make 15/hour, but am still able to keep 500-1000 in my account in case of emergencies.
PostMortem Prince How insensitive! She's not making a mistake, I have about 50$ in my bank account because I'm a university student and working part-time, which means that after paying all my bills I have barely anything left. I'm ok with it but obviously I don't have extra cash for emergencies or expensive skincare. It's not about doing anything wrong, I budget and make ends meet but I'm still prioritizing my studies
Ariane Lévesque you know there’s plenty of adults who work full time and go to school full time as well and still make good grades. Obviously they’re tired a lot, but it’s all about what you deem necessary.
@@bobbi12781 Missha makes great ones on a budget, Iope is great also, leniege or even the loreal lumi true match one is good but Missha and iope arer my top two.
Thank you for this close up on your faces. Hope that anyone dont complain about it... They wanted zoom , you gave them the zoom... The eye look is beautiful! You look very beautiful and more radiante every day.
I bought this a few weeks ago. I love this so much. It is a medium coverage and so quick and easy to apply. I do not use any powder and minimal concealer. Just wish it wasn't so expensive!
It’s so funny seeing American beauty gurus apply cushion foundations with a brush when the whole premise of a cushion foundation is its portability and compact design for on the go application. It sort of defeats the purpose since not everyone is going to have a brush along with them wherever they go when they want to reapply or touch up. Lol
if its made to be applied with a cushion pad it will also look better on the skin if you follow their instructions, so many foundations will not go on nice with a brush which is why she had to pat it in after (had she used the pad as instructed she wouldn’t have had that issue)
The shade range is an improvement but personally, fenty really has set a new standard in the industry and if companies are still coming out with less than AT LEAST 25 shades then...thats tragic. Especially because la mer is owned by estee lauder and their other brands do have okayish shade ranges...I think it just shows who they feel their target customer should be . Its upsetting
AMAAL for liquid foundations obviously I agree with you. But with cushion foundations and bb creams, they have way more wiggle room than a traditional foundation and therefore need less shades. As long as there is a good and inclusive gradient, you don’t need 25+ shades for a cushion foundation or bb cream.
Also, I don’t care for Fenty’s formula. I find it super drying. Now, I’m not buying La Mer either, but I do enjoy a cushion foundation. It’s all preference.
Hey Tati, when I use that foundation, I noticed that it works better with cream products and just a tiny bit of powder in the end. It takes a while to sink in. It works well with the la mer powder. It lasts all day on me but you are right, it’s the type of product that does t like too much stuff on which is usually what I do. Great review though. Thanks!
I hope you see this, I loved the editing of this video! I loved how we could really see your skin when you were working with the makeup, the more Tati cam is appreciated so we can really see what you are seeing
Hahaha I did, I felt like she was getting criticized for her application when she acknowledged it a few times in the video! I thought she gave it a positive review with the caveat it didn’t work with how she likes to do makeup. 😂🤷🏻♀️
That foundation was bunching up in your forehead, you removed a bit from your nose AFTER you set it with powder, and on top of that it's a whopping $120. Also, that shade range is still crappy, it doesn't really get deep at all. Thanks for the review.
Forget the foundation! Let's take a look at Tati's awesome French vintage cutting board collection!!! The French chef in me is just dying!!! Oui!! Oui!!
Agree! There are times when I just want reviews where they use/ apply products the way they're supposed to as per the makers BEFORE how gurus usually/ prefer apply them for more acuuracy. 😕
I dont have major experience in cushions (got my first one this week) but yeah, with mine i believe the puff gives more coverage. But honestly, whatever tati wants to do ig. I still think this foundation is crap for 120 dollars. For that price it should be flawless
Hey Tati, discovered you an year ago since I am obsessed with your videos 😻😻💋💋💋when you your moms video was one of the best one 😍😍😍 please do more of such videos and please do a video of top 5 drugstore makeup products from primer till setting spray lots of love 💕 from Pakistan 🇵🇰
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Can you do a video that is like "the best full face of drugstore" Pick the best liner, mascara aka full face using drugstore products. Maybe give the top two options for each category!
I MISSED THESE 💕 I don’t always agree with Tati’s opinions for one reason or another but I still love her and value her opinions. People can agree and disagree on things- it’s okay.
Tati, I love your videos! I feel that you’re actually interested in what you’re doing and you’re always giving honest reviews, I hardly ever get bored whilst watching one of your videos. It’s really nice to see someone who cares about their videos and job!! Keep it up, ly xx
Tati, you shouldn’t have used the Tarte primer with this foundation. If you look at the ingredients there’s three kinds of dimethicones and two kinds of trimethicones and the Tarte primer is silicone based. That’s why it was slipping off your nose. Silicone based foundations need a stickier primer to adhere to. You should try it again with a different primer and see if your opinion changes.
When she applied the powder, it made the foundation look powdery like it was just sticking to it instead of melting into the skin. And it made the contour & bronzer look muddy. $120 not worth it.
I'm on the hunt for the perfect nude/pink/rose/mauve- palette. Which one do you think is the best? Could you do a charlotte tillbury "in your stars" vs hude beauty "nude" test? Please!
like the zoomed in make up application. not a fan of the high price product and after powder it was bad. you are naturally pretty so dont really need a lot of make up ... like James' honest feedback on the product
I just purchased the new Wonder Beauty liquid foundation and so far it seems really good as long as you use a pore filling primer. It blends so easy that I'm in love with it. Thought you might want to check it out. I think it has almost all 5 stars on Sephora.
