You know you need to put the cheep tires on the Capra to see how that does that to should make interesting vid but all so it was a massive help having the portal axles that was what made the difference I believe fab video watched it all

Simple design, less parts to go wrong, lightweight, good low centre of gravity, good wheels size, simple small battery that lasts at leas 45min, 1/4th of the cost of most 1/10 scale crawlers and at least equally capable. What not to like? Mine has no foam inserts and a very small lightweight bycilce light on front of and rear axle(red on the rear). Not only effective at night but very cool and strangely adds a touch of scale realism.

Not surprised as the Capra tyres were only 1.9's whereas the Ravine's are 2.2's. The Capra can get away with the smaller rubber with it's portal axles but the Ravine was getting caught up on it chuncky axles and chassis centre plate

Would be interesting to see the same test done with the 2.2 Hyrax tires rather than the 1.9 that used in the video. It seemed to loose ground clearance vs the stock wheels. Agreed that the truck is too light though.

Hi Phil your right about the weight, all I done to mine is put wheel weights , added abit to the front, put £40 wheels and Tyres on , upgraded the 2 Servos, 35kg in the front and 20 in the back and thats it, Made the electronics waterproof 👍 obviously made a jeep wrangler fit the Body, The Ravine also takes 3s 5000mah 30c lipo to and goes for hours 😁 , really enjoyed your test run Bro. That was some crazy hard rocks you tested on though lol 😆 fantastic Video as always 👍😁👍😎👍

Like everyone else says, looks like there isn't enough weight to make use of them. Still a great budget crawler though. A more sensible investment might be some extra weight and some *cough* "tribute" *cough* tyres from China. Some of them are super soft now and have "familiar" tread patterns. I was surprised just how soft they are now, Chinese crawler tyres used to be almost plastic but these days, a lot of them are as soft as the big brands.

I thought the stock tires are horrible. I think a full set of stock tires and rims from Redcat were $18. $80 dollars for rims and tires is ridiculous.i can get 2 20x4" fat tires for my electric bike for less. I got free 1x9 mud terrains off a Gen 7 and wheels from a neighbor. Other than the body and tires I was really happy with the ridge rock , 6 months owner

Hail, good sir. I'm fairly new to RCs as I got into them during covid and I bought a Ravine a wee while ago as my first crawler because I saw your videos on this little beauty. This car takes a li-ion battery but does that mean it can also take a lipo? From what I've read it looks like li-ion has a lower low-voltage cut off point than lipo, so I guess that putting a lipo in this would be very bad? I'd like to go on long quarry crawls with a big lipo but not sure if I can't trust the controller to cut off at low voltage and will need my own low voltage alarm?
@TomleyRC
@TomleyRC 4 года назад
I’ve used a Lipo on this no problem. I’m sure the ESC has a low voltage cut of already as it runs the Li-ion

Don’t know if this is a daft question but with 2 motors, could you setup dig on the Ravine? I’m guessing it’d need different controller and esc but don’t know how it’d work 🤔

yup, lacking weight for the better tires to take a bite. I'd try wetting the stock tires with WD-40 about an hour to help open the pores of the rubber, and like I did with your Ravine's cheaper little brother the Danchee "Trail Hunter", 4 wraps 2 mm solder between the tire beads of its front rims. when climbing all the weight dumps to the rear tires anyway, a little extra weight up front lets them help pull the whole rig up. rims are near 2" diameter, so 4 wraps is 25-26" worth of the lead wire.. times two. with the Trail Hunter didn't want to add TOO much weight, the motors are probably a bit smaller than whats in the Ravine/RidgeRock. Trail Hunter's motors are almost 370 size but have flat sides, kinda like overgrown 130 motors. the weight definitely helped the Trail Hunter, runs on a 7.2v 800mah 6 cell AA size NiCad pack and is really light for its size.

Massive weight difference between the 2... so it is the reason... The Hyrax's are really good!
@Mini-z1994
@Mini-z1994 4 года назад
Huh was this with open diffs ? Kind of looked like it was slipping on the rear in some places. Maybe it was the tires spinning inside the rims or something... Another thing worth trying is venting the stock tires, adding lead weight front & rear in the rims or axles, I'd say 150 - 250 grams if possible on both axles & check over the linkage on the suspension if it moves smoothly without the shocks in place along with adding some longer screws & shims behind the mounting points on the axles so the linkages & shocks are pushed outwards slightly. & ofc servos, metal linkages instead of plastic & perhaps see if you can shave down the steering knuckle slightly too get more steering angle out of it.
