Bart id love to hear your thoughts on implementing a x/r strategy. PIO heavily utilizes it but it seems like the EV between x/r and x/c is real close and would make life a lot simplier to implement a pure check and check call strategy on this board texture this deep. I actually ran this hand through PIO when I first saw marianos hand breakdown, wanted to see how close he was because I thought he played it extremely well at first glance (still do), but I was completely stunned at Barts call, I thought if Bart made a breakdown there had to have been some live read he picked up because it seemed like a fold IMO. Bart basically put Mariano on his exact hand, very impressive Pio results (which of course will alter due to bet sizes and preflop ranges. I slightly widened marianos preflop calling range to include AJo at 25% freq, as well as slightly widened barts 3b range) Pio checks ~50% OOP this deep, mixing a small bet like Bart said, with all holdings. IP likes the small size mariano used at high frequency, Interesting part was PIO has a mixed check range strategy which I didn’t expect, it likes a x/r with 66% of its continuing range. Turn is interesting, this seems to be the inflection point as Pio heavily prefers a larger bet size of 2500, never really using other sizes. Pio much prefers to start applying pressure now to setup river jam, it’s betting ~35% of range, checking 60%. Marianos exact holding is almost always firing 2500, OOP has a pure call with T9 River IP is jamming or checking, marianos exact holding is a very high frequency jam, and Barts hand is calling 50% but it’s extremely close.
@CrushlivePoker

Thanks for the thoughtful input.. I never even considered that this could be a check raise post flop in this specific scenario. Not a line I commonly take (3 betting OOP then check raising the flop). Bart

Since Mariano is bluffing, he wants you to fold. So he wants to bet in a way that keeps more of his value range intact. That 2/3 bet at the end might be better than all in because it keeps the straights (?sets) in his range and he loses less if you call. Maybe that’s why he chose that sizing rather than all in.
@seanmaguire9950
@seanmaguire9950 2 года назад
True but I think he would be better bluffing larger and less often in these spots.
@justinhart7172

Right. But since Mariano had the As he SHOULD of sized up on turn and all in river to rep the nut flush. He played it wrong not cuz he bluffed but cuz he had the As and would of sized up had he had the nut flush draw on turn. So he should of went for that line from the turn and river setup size up turn all in river

What do I do with 10-9 suited on the btn vs HJ open to 10bb and CO call. in a 1/2 game 80bb deep where they rake $4 and they take the SB before the hand starts for jackpot. BTN has been limping a ton only raises about the top 10-15% of hands And never seen him raise to 10bb.But I had been raising his limps and he was tilting a bit. CO just sat down. Average open is 3bb most people limp very fish heavy passive game.

Fold unless youre deep enough. 80 BBs deep, putting 10 BBs in pre is punting IMO. Especially with a caller in between & not closing the action. If SB or BB 3bet youre burning money & yeah calling in position is good but not if you don't have the implied odds & are in a multiway pot hoping to hit. 3bet or fold is preferred as well & you aren't deep enough at all to 3bet

I love Bart’s analysis of a high level overview of the game. My question to follow up would be this - in this spot, in a lower stakes (1/2 or 2/5) that’s going to have some Bad Regs, would you be less incentivized to bluff in Mariano’s spot? I ask, because often what I see at the tables is people making bad calls and winning often with -EV, but I’m nearly certain most of them wouldn’t know a GTO strategy if the book smacked them in the face.

A Tuesday morning old man 2/5 game is very different then a Saturday night wild 1/2 game. What type of bad regs? Aggro Spewy, Stations, or face up passive nits? I'll say this at least, ppl under bluff the river at these stakes in general a ton. So in general we want fold more to large river bets since the meta's range is nuttish in that spot. On the flip side, can bombing 4 liners and 4 flush boards on the river with air be effective at low stakes? Yes, but more at 2/5 than 1/2. And really it's specific player dependent. Guy plays too many hands, shows up on the riv with too wide of a range, but still knows how to fold? Bombs away. Nit with a capped range and you have tight image? Bombs away. Calling station or a Saturday night wild man? Find a better spot.

@rez2576
@rez2576 2 года назад
I think Bart is overanalyzing here. yes everything he said is correct. Mariano could have a backdoor flush. he could also have queen jack. but the bottom line is if he is capable of bluffing he could have so many more bluffs. In a 3 bet pot neither if you should have many flushes. Other than an ace high flush, the only other flushes can have are 7,8 of spades. and queen jack of spades. That is extremely unlikely. If I was in Marianos shoes I would definitely bet 9,10, king ten, or any set on the river for value. It's so hard for either of you to have an 8 in a 3 bet pot as well. Bart's hand looks like queens, jacks, etc. Mariano could also be using the king as a scare card to get him off of those. you're not calling with a massive smile on your face, but from a range perspective, 9,10 is a clear call. This is only an exploitative fold to a nit who is never bluffing. I get there's a one liner to a straight, but its an 8. not a queen, jack or king. I bet if you ran it through a solver it would be a clear call too. especially against a standard players 3 betting range

Mariano seems to be very aggressive. I only watched his game from hustler casino, but he was cbeting high freq, barreling aggressively, and making some light calls. I think the board runout also allows him to be very aggressive. Because of this I think going with the passive lines can be better. Very aggressive opponents I like to trap a bit more. For a more standard play with this hand, I like a bet on flop 50-75% with JJ, QQ, and good 10s (109, A10). Then try for check jam on turn. The raise is more for equity denial than value. Because the flop bet is so small, maybe just fold AQo and all my non paired heart hands, probably keep AKo and AKs. Turn bet is also small, so I fold the diamond and spades, keep the kqs and jqs. River I am calling, but I am not happy. marianos play I like bigger sizes for turn bet so that river jam is easier. For example, if he bets 3.4k on turn pot becomes 11k and river bet is just over 10k. It would make a turn check raise really easy for Bart though. His hand is so good to bluff with on the K spade river.
@gs6810
@gs6810 2 года назад
I wonder how that changes things in the solver if he raises big on the turn. Bart was saying if he went all in on the river it's basically 50/50 call or fold because he would basically be getting 1 to 1 on his money. If he bet bigger on the turn, an all in bet on the river would be giving Bart a better price relative to pot size. Based on Bart's narrative the turn wasn't where Mariano made the mistake, it was not betting all in on the river. I happen to like this hand by Mariano. Betting in that spot when he is both blocking some nut straight combos and blocking all the nut flushes is strong. He has a lot of potential to be a really good player.

On the flop you should definitely be betting more frequently than checking. You want to build the pot in case you win and put him in tough positions with a pair of 7’s or 6”s, put pressure on over cards that called light. Betting 30-60% should work for most average players.

@jarirepo1172
@jarirepo1172 2 года назад
At the flop, opponent bets small --> obvious call. At turn, you get two pair and opponent still bets smallish --> obvious call (you really, really cannot be afraid of just 8 or you are playing at wrong level / table; it's simple to fold if YOUR opponents NEVER bluff here, but that clearly is not the case in this table). Do also note that at turn there is more often flush draw available than not, only way for there not to be one is to have one of all suits, so you cannot be too afraid of flush draw either. River is bad card, but the price means you need to call quite often with cards you have. You could have QQ, JJ, AT, JT etc as folds, so you got to call quite a bit with two pairs and better at least. Or if you don't, your opponent will just print money by betting everything at river. Of course, at lower stakes few players bluff at all in the river and it might be easy fold, so everything depends on range you can assume your opponent has. If this was low stakes game, I too would probably fold at river. But these stakes are a different world altogether. Ace of spades alone gives a lot of bluffing combos to bomb the river.

A small sizing on the turn is good for both value and bluffs because it puts hands like AK/AQ/AJ in a tough spot. It is also allows you to be deeper on the river where you can go all in and put a lot of pressure on the opponent with your range advantage, depending on what the river is of course.

I have noticed Mariano giving off more live tells than a lot of the other regs, I think due in part to his only having played for about five years now, and not being quite as neutral in his physical behaviors. To add: no Cbet on flop with top pair? That’s a scary play.

If you're way ahead or way behind you should never be raising. If you raise you're just gonna fold out everything that you're beating, and get called by 8s and sets.

Bart is excellent but I don’t agree. Mariano is a very good player and makes great content.

That’s a dickish comment - just a real pos comment from someone who probably doesn’t even play or if you do a typical losing 1/2 playerS Barts obviously one of the lead pros and you sit there and play the role of Monday mornings QB to perfection. I don’t know Mariano don’t watch him and don’t GAF about him. Your comment rings of an immature clown

I liked at first but was going to say, like the others, Mariano's play on this hand isn't particularly bad. Hindsight but $2k more on river was optimal. Bart is known for calling down with blockers and such in marginal spots. Could still have a straight with suited connectors as well. Turn call was alarm bell, so river sizing was a bit light. Bart's depth is amazing though, you are right.

While not a fan of Mariano. Lucky call! Your analysis tell me it's a fold. Your holding functions as terrible bluff catching candidate even with my limited understanding of NL. If it's a f u call or I don't believe you call, which is fine. But see you try to justify or rationalize this way is pretty below your skill level. Hopefully you getting enough clicks to this post justify the garbage analysis.
