It's not easy traveling with kids in the midst of Noise, Humidity, Smoke, and Chaos, but both parents did a fanstastic job. These children are so lucky to have such patient parents whose children would probably grow up being more resilient and at ease with global cultures and peoples.

The buns are called mantou. It’s best dipped with the chilli crab gravy. My heart bleeds when I saw the 3 leftover uneaten mantous and the plate of gravy.😅

You tried the most touristy food Center in Singapore, Newton Food Center is well known for high food prices. There are many more food Centers around Singapore which won’t burn a hole in your pocket😊😊

The small fried buns are for the the chilli grab gravy. I fill my water bottle in 🇸🇬 public toilet taps .One China tourist boy was amazed when he saw me doing that in the toilet next to Merlion .

It's quite surprising that your two eldest kids are able to handle spicy foods at such a young age. Even my 8 year old son can't handle spicy food that well. My 4 year old doesn't eat spicy food at all. We are Singaporean and the only food they eat are fast food, pizza and mac n cheese. 😄 Some of the common food we eat are nasi lemak, roti prata, mee soto, nasi sambal goreng, chapati with keema, hokkien mee, hor fun, fried rice, etc. Chilli crab for 50 SGD is really expensive, I wouldn't buy it at a hawker stall with that price. I would buy it at a restaurant if it goes beyond 30 SGD. Satay is pretty common too but we get satay babat which is a part of cow's fatty layer and it's chewy soft texture with the spices is to die for! There's some hawker stalls that cooked it nicely and it's addicting. Anyways, enjoy your stay in Singapore! Hope you guys get to eat more foods! Stay safe! 😊
For future reference, mantou buns are always sold with chilli crab, so that they can be dipped into the chilli crab gravy. No one eats the mantou buns straight up like that

To be honest, it seems quite improbable to spend only US$15 (around SG$20) to feed 5 people in Singapore that comes with food + drink. I think the cheapest main meals in Singapore are sold around SG$4 - 5 such as very basic nasi lemak, while soft drinks prices are around SG$1 - 2 🤔
uhh no, I got a packet of rly delicious nasi lemak from the hawker at Chinatown for only sgd 3 dlrs. In bedok, there's a famous one whr u can get for sgd 2.50. I can get veg rice near where i live for sgd 3- 3 plus dollars. Nth basic about that. Locals know whr to get the best deals n the cheaper fares are in the heartlands.
@@BagsPackedFamily Hi BPF , Abt the dessert... Red Ruby dessert - The " red jelly " stuff is actually Water Chestnuts . Water Chestnuts is soaked with Rose syrup for a night then is coated with Tapioca flour and boil with hot water.Tapioca flour give it a soft jelly texture........ Hv a lovely holidays....cheers !
Probably a little too late for this now but... This is a Singaporean exclusive skill you can use called "choping" (essentially reserving). In a hawker center, just drop down a packet of tissue paper or something at your seat and no one will take the seat (of course, don't use your valuables). People here also aren't too finicky about sharing spare seats so you can ask for empty seats

Yeah it is quite expensive in Singapore. In my place where I live a bottle of Tiger beer is less than 1 USD. Small bottle of course. A big bottle tiger beer is less than 2Usd.

Usually cash only at local hawker centres. The buns, "mantou", are meant to be dipped into the chilli crab sauce. Yes, you can totally drink water off the tap. Red ruby is water chestnut cubes covered in red glutinous skin.
Newton ought to have been a passed. Being touristy and a stone's throw from Orchard Road, the prices there are surely higher then elsewhere in Singapore. The Chilli crab dish would have cost at least S$50 because that's what it cost even in new town coffeeshops. But the expenditure is reasonable and not extravagant for your family. In the past, Newton used to be a place where seafood BBQ dishes were exorbitant but the prices have become more realistic - though still pricey compared to residential new towns..
TIP: Use a packet of tissues to reserve a table at hawker centres in Singapore you just leave a travel packet off tissues on the table and it reserves it for you so you can go pick up and order food.
This newton hawker center is more for tourist and expensive to local standard. Try other hawkers center like china town or golden mile its good and cheaper.

Yeah it's expensive in Singapore everything is expensive in Singapore. Even their water is bought from Malaysia since Singapore is a small City island.
