This $150 Mini PC actually surprised me! CHUWI is a technology company that I've bought products from before, and they gave me this HeroBox Mini PC in exchange for an honest review, and that's what this is. I've reviewed similar tech before, but this was the cheapest computer I could find that actually played 4K HDR content. If you look at other reviews, it can do emulation gaming , but it's really not meant to run modern games. Temps were good, the fan has a high-pitched whine that's only noticeable in a really quiet room. I couldn't hear it when it was on my TV. Overall I'm impressed and it's something I can definitely recommend to my customers for a basic desktop replacement, Plex server, or 4K Media Center.

You mean Blu-Ray player? And anyways, this can't play those. It doesn't have a Blu-Ray drive. You'll need one of those, and you've gotta get software that'll play an encrypted Blu-Ray.

@@LBSiUK Ideally you'd rip your physically bought Blu-Ray disks locally, and add them to something like your plex server or have them on local drive connected to the Mini PC. Maybe not the easiest thing for the average consumer but those would likely opt for Google TV or Apple TV box.

Windows 11 is the most unresponsive OS I've used in the last decade. I keep going to the task manager to see what's happening with the CPU and memory, expecting the CPU and memory to be maxed out, but the CPU will be at like 25% usage, and the memory at 45% usage. So, why so crazy sluggish to do anything? 💀

@@khaoskannibal3451 To me it's not about upgrading, it's about the repair aspect. RAM tends to die/cause problems before most other parts in a PC, RAM is comparably cheap and easy to change. And when soldered on RAM dies, it's hard to justify a repair.

ive always wanted one of these tiny little micro pcs but never could find a reason as I already have a fairly new gaming PC that I do everything on. But you just made me realize it would be perfect for a streaming PC! I could hook it directly to one of my monitors and just tuck it away and it wouldnt even look like I have a secondary PC anywhere. I got one of these for my grandmother. (It was actually an older model, but same series) She's been daily driving it for years now. It runs like nobody's business. Incredibly reliable, and plenty powerful for everything she needs it to do. She can even play Minecraft... It's a bit choppy, but it's better than my first computer, and the knockoff "bedrock edition" runs pretty well too.

So I'm going to be doing a long-form video on this topic since I was actually sent a Mini PC by a company that contained a Chrome Search Engine rootkit in the Windows Image. Which is why I scanned this one with MalwareBytes and checked everything with Autoruns to make sure it was good. CHUWI is a more well-known company though, I've bought and resold about a dozen devices over the past 7 years.

Ofc can't talk about the PC in the video but I have their cheapest tablet (89€) and I can at least say for that one that it is fully virus free. I check all my devices even if from reputable manufacturers for these things. I use the tablet as a E-reader for manga. And got my mom the same one for watching her videos.

I've had a rootkit installed on a previous Chinese Mini-PC so I specifically scanned this with MalwareBytes along with did a manual scan using AutoRuns, the Windows image is stock minus the drivers. CHUWI is a bigger company so I don't think it's worth it for them to mess around

If Beelink would send me their N100 Mini PC I would be able to compare it. Judging just based off specs, the Beelink has more storage and more RAM, but DDR4 instead of 5 and it costs $20 more. For a 4K media center and basic desktop I'd stick with the CHUWI, but for more intensive multitasking the Beelink's 16GB of RAM may come in handy.

The Beelink SER5 I reviewed can't decode AV1, so for my purpose the N100 would be a better bet. For gaming though the Beelink SER5 would be better (and costs twice as much).

Chuwi. They are a surprisingly competent budget brand. I have one of their tablets, and while not the best tablet out there, for it's price range is definitely better than the majority of its competition. Especially since they focus more on performance for playing games rather than useless things like it's ability to take pictures. Which is nice for it's price range. You can definitely get a phone and tablet more powerful but none as cheap.

I would always make sure and wipe the entire drives and make sure there are no onboard storage chips being hidden as too many of these computers tend to come infected with viruses and malware which is a big cybersecurity risk in an already weakened cybersecurity state.

I bought their windows/android tablet back in the day and loved it until the battery started causing the screen to turn off at 50% battery. They make really interesting products but don’t seem to QA test well. For the price it’s worth the gamble.
