I'm halfway through the top replacement on my 94. I left the frame in the car, I think it makes it easier. Either way you have to crawl in the back to hook the top to the studs where the rain rail is. Thanks for sharing your experience!
ChrisSadowski I definitely agree, I used to have a 93 Honda prelude 6-7 years ago but didn’t really know how to work on it, fast forward until now I have way more knowledge and the tools I need, recently swapped a 3.5 Nissan Quest that I had and it felt great.
Ay bro just letting you know that I’m following along with your vid and it’s going well. I didn’t break the rain rail thanks to your warning. Fitting the new top on tomorrow (also an autoberry coincidentally)
My railrail was never installed with top, I wasted $70 with the Kee rainrail, holes are way to big and it's just a big piece of vinyl ya have to fold, leaving many pinches that will hold water, it sucks.
As much as I love hondas, the Miata is way more fun stock for stock. It’s a much more rigid chassis, still got the drop top, both equally slow for the most part, but the Miata handles much better since it’s a roadster, it has more firm suspension and the driver feel of the car is much more analog so you really feel every gear change and it rewards your for driving it hard. When my del sol was stock it was fun too, just much more rickety and squishy. It was more smooth to drive just not as exciting
Dude, go online for directions on Miata top install, your doing some things wrong. You do not need to replace the wires unless they are broke, as you suggested but you disconnected those wires at the wrong end.
Is there not a methodology for replacing it without removing the frame? I've never looked into exact differences, but the S2000 top frame is similar in design to the NA frame and I would think it is much harder to replace with it removed (having replaced an S2000 top).
When I was researching it people kept saying how much easier it was to do with the frame out of the car. Getting access to some of the rivets on the top inside the car I just don’t see how it would have been possible, but that’s a good question. I’m surprised there isn’t a video of someone doing it already
Oh no, hes been infected, everytime a vid comes out his look is changing. hes becoming a miata boi also. my del sol is running. so far i have a custom 2 1/2 inch catback with a skunk2 megapower (i think its a 2 1/2) exhaust and no resonator. sheesh
You'll regret a plastic window. Don't buy a Kee top, Robbins is the best. I tried to save money too and went with glass window Kee top. Kee wants you to drill holes in your top frame to rivet straps that will hole last bow, I don't want to compromise strength of frame so will have to fab something. Robbins has a top that has bow flaps, very convenient and no drill holes required. Biden has made everything rediculous expensive and the mandatory minimum wage doesn't help, wages go up and do to prices so your really not making any more. The top you have is like a Robbins top, it has the bow flaps, that's good.
Sold the car a few weeks ago, but when I sold it the top was still healthy, dark black and solid. Window is a pain to keep clean and clear being that it is plastic but otherwise the quality of the top itself is pretty good, especially for the price
