$2.2 Million WASTED! 

Do you guys think this skatepark design was a waste of money?

The park didn't cost 2.2mil it was more like 500k and the rest went to the artist group and councils pockets that's what happens when you leave grubs in charge of something that could have been amazing oh well won't be heading out to that dump thanks for taking the hit

I can see myself enjoying this park but they couldve done more with that kind of money, but if this was in my local area I'd be kinda hyped

I remember reading about the wedding venue having a whinge. I'm not sure if the new park is in exactly the same location but there was a set of steel spine ramps in Leichardt previously. I think they were removed around the same time the Glebe steel mini was modified, so around 2000 i guess. New park looks alright I'll give it a go. It's sad some of the old parks are gone but there are so many more skatepark in Sydney now.

I can't do a lot of tricks and would probably enjoy just cruising and carving the banks. But I see what you mean.

In My Opinion, This Skatepark is so Weird Design, Wasted Their Time, But When Im In Budgewoi, Maybe I Will Go To Sydney, But Soon Enough Im In Brisbane, They Have Worse Sometimes

I have so much fun just on some curbs. This is not that bad at all. also at the end "this one cost a quarter of this........and it's so much smaller" OK?? Dude this park is nice and looks cool and unique. I would def skate here.

100% agree, put a quarter of that money into more remote community’s and consult with the local skateboarders/ect and what you will get is a more practical, functional and better use of tax payer dollars than whatever this is considering the people within a 10km radius of this have multiple other 1million dollar plus facilities to enjoy!

I was initially expecting to disagree, but it is always a shame when the value for money isn't there and the designer doesn't seem to be very well versed in such unique facilities. 12 years is a long time and the apatite for styles, features and the overall demographic will change, it is a shame that there wasn't wider consultation or buy in from the locals prior to approving this design. I'd be interested in seeing a other sports views on this park too. Good on you for taking the time :)

The same businesses and councils that "care" and have strict OH&S training install trip hazzards all over that majority target children .. WTF - 'the venue’s senior managing director John Navarra also cited concerns about the safety of “children on an adrenalin rush”, traffic flow, and claimed to hold a “native earth claim” over the land, given to him by a “personal treaty” with Lady Crown Turikatuku III, a local singer of Maori descent.' Le Montague - Sydney needs to be shown the "care" they showed skaters. Enlocus prbs. cronys that bribe well considering the foundations in the USA that build parks for cost ANY would have provided a better design.

2.2M for mud and wood ramps covered by concrete? Good for construction companies in cahoots with politicians!

I think its not really fair to say that the architectural company didnt have any idea what they were doing. Maybe its not just ment for skateboarders but for all types of rolling sports. In your video at least 50 percent of all people ride something else than skateboard. Its better for a community to have a place where more people can do different activities rather than having a street park. In this case it seemed as it was a struggle to push through with the park, so i suspect a big part of planning effort (and budget) did go into considering multiple parties rather than just skaters. You mentioned the wedding location nearby and it seems that this is a very publical area (most skateparks are not located on such sites), it is sure a lot of work to create a park with which everybody is happy. But i dont really know what was going with planning. What really sticks out is how beautiful it looks. Different colored concrete, the pavillions and trees around and everything seems to fit together. I think its asthetically pleasing and thats not by accident. 2.2 seems like a reasonable price for a park that big (+infrastructure), but idk how much your prices are since i live in germany...

I love living in Colorado. There are so many beautiful skateparks all built with revenue from cannabis sales. It's a beautiful thing to see. Having grown up being treated like a criminal for skating and smoking trees... it's just wild.

For the casual skater no but for the serious inspired to be in sls or olympic skater and of corse for the skating till i die noh everything about skating dude yes waste money.

I guess if you are a "street purist", I could see your opinion. But personally, I love sk8ing transition and that park looks super fun. Since the $2.2 mil didnt come out of your pocket, and this is better than 80% of most skaters have access to, you might as well learn to love it.

Maybe those studios build things with much more expensive materials, but that doesn't translate in better skateparks. BTW, if I had a tenth of your skills, any skatepark would do :-)

Not sure why the presenter is so dour and running the park down like he is. Was the money your money? Okay, so don't go back and skate there. Seems like a place where plenty of skaters can skate and have fun. Isn't everything in AUS expensive anyway? So you don't like the park, why not just leave it at that instead of making a Danny downer video about it?
