The Misogynist Feminist Crazy as it sounds, but the person accepting the $2 note believe they are counterfeit, and call the “local” authority. The responding “local” authority, the young ones, have NEVER seen or heard of a $2 note either and believe they have a real desperado. However after the dust has settled and the “embarrassment” of not knowing the basics of common sense and the denominations of US currency, the passer of the $2 note is soon released from custody. Crazy huh?

I know. You can use any of our money, except national notes, from any period of time as long as they where minted in the US. I could go spend a $2.50 coin known as a quarter eagle or a half cent, but it would be dumb to do so.

Back when I was in the navy, every so often we would get part of our pay $2 bills, we would spend them and the people would know the impact of the military being there.

About a year before I got stationed in Grand Forks, they paid everyone in silver dollars. There had been a debate around town of how much the military spent in town. As their cash drawers filled with silver dollars, they finally shut up about military spending in their establishments. There were quite a few still floating around after I got there.

When I owned a mortgage company....I sent a $2 bill as a marketing tool along with a letter to mortgage companies. I simply asked that in exchange for the cup of coffee or tea that I was pre paying for that they give my mortgage company a chance to fund their loans. I later learned that the majority of people had been throwing them away because they thought they were fake. I later explained that they were real in the letters. True story.

I don't know if anyone has said this before, but the largest user of $2 bills used to be the USMC. In 1987 when I graduated boot at Parris Island, SC the finance officer had a cash drawer FULL of $2. Everyone was paid the day before graduation and ALL of us had several $2 bills. I found out later from one of DIs that it was a tradition going back as far as the first Marines to graduate boot at Parris Island. My neighbor's kid received a few $2 bills when he graduated last week.

Interesting, though I already knew most of these facts. I have collected US coins and currency all my life, and there are many that most people do not know even existed. I had a $500 bill that a bank wouldn't even accept (I sold it to a friend.) As far as coins, half cents, 3 cent pieces (both nickel and silver) 2 cent coins (Civil War era,) 20 cent silver pieces, 1 dollar gold coins, 2-1/2 dollar gold pieces, 3 dollar gold pieces, etc. Anyone who wants a history lesson on US coins and currency, contact me, I have an extensive knowledge of US numismatics.

Most teenagers or the younger generation, has no idea that the $2. is actually legal tender. I have several, including the blue note and the red note, and the silver. I have given each of my grandchildren 1. and I have even given some away. But I think the 1 that surprised me the most is there were different people on them. I have about 25 of them left.

Hi! I have a question. I have some two dollar bills that have a noticeably uneven boarder edge (as if they were cut wrong). They are perfectly straight and crisply cut and came in a bep band. The edge is just slimmer on one side and wider on the other. Will this affect the value? Can i still spend them/ give as gifts?
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary 5 лет назад
They're all good, and you can still give them as gifts. If the cuts were horribly wrong, and some of the face of the bill was cut off, you'd have what's known as an error note and it would be worth more money. As it is, not all bills are cut evenly around the borders, so if it's off a little bit one way or the other, it's not an issue. They're fine.

I was shopping at Best Buy a few months back and happened to have a $2 dollar bill in my wallet and when I went to use it to pay for my purchase it was refused. The young clerk was certain that it was bogus - she'd never seen or heard of a $2 dollar bill. I told her to get her manager and when she arrived she, too refused to accept the bill. Despite my assurances that this was, indeed legal US tender, she refused. So...I raised my voice quite loudly and and reiterated her refusal to accept this $2 dollar bill...at which point she backed down and in a huff, ordered the clerk to accept it as scrambled away.

Why the $2 bill is considered bad luck: During the gold rush, brothels in San Francisco cost $3, and gave $2 bills in change. When a woman went through her husband’s wallet, she knew where he’d been. More recently: there was a horse racing track in Los Angeles called Santa Anita. Bets at the track were made in $2 increments, and they paid in $2 bills. Again, when a woman went through her husband’s wallet, she knew where he was spending his lunch hours.

Several where interesting but not sure about surprising, although if I had to pic, it would be other portraits on the bill. Some people don't know that a $2 dollar bill is legal tender and have even called the cops on users. The most interesting thing I can think of is that when I worked in a Gas Station we kept a $2 bill mixed in with our $1's and had the serial number written down as a theft tracker.

She was Polish and had survived The Warsaw Ghetto during WW2. She would send them to relatives still in Poland.The Commies would open all packages and letters and take any money except $2.00 notes. They, (the Commies), thought they were fake and didn't take them.

Here in Canada, the $2 bill was retired in 1994, replaced by the $2 coin, the $1 bill was retired in 1987, I think the US is the only place still using either a $1 or $2 bill...

To this day I still use $2 bills. I have change banks due to the fact one bank will not supply them and the other bank will. I use them a lot in traveling for tips. I have paid entire food or service bills with $2 bills. But I will ask first if it is ok to pay a bill with $2 bills. No one yet has said no. Will add the the country of the Bahamas has 3$ bills and are collectible now. At one time I used US two dollar bills in a bank in the Bahamas to get $3 dollar Bahamas bills. At this time I will get at least $400 of $2 bills at the bank to spread around.

If they placed Santa over Thomas Jefferson, it's probably a valid bill like the ones in Fact #4 in this follow-up video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mMlnD87tXOI.html It would still be legal currency, although I don't think many people would accept it.

The bank can order them for you - and you'll get a crisp stack with sequential serial numbers when they arrive. They are great to use for tips as you mentioned, but using them in regular transaction has the same effect (especially if you use a few of them)

@@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary I'm not sure why people say that cashiers hate them due to no place to put them. A lot of drawers I've seen in my area don't have a spot for $100 bills or checks either, so they put them underneath the cash tray. Every place I've spent $2 bills put them there too----either under the drawer or right underneath the checks pile.

Here in panama is extremely rare to see a 2 dollar bill. They just don’t circulate. Many keep that bill like a treasure of some sort. Same with one dollar coins if we get the chance to grab them. They are brought by Americans.

I used to live near a horse racing track in Illinois that had a $2 betting window. I had always believed they made the $2 bill for race track betting. I had no idea the bill has been used that far back. In the early 1800's that would have been a huge bet, so I guess that's not why they were made.
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary

Horse racing lore is one of the reasons some used to think the bill was bad luck. You can see how in this other video on our channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lUXhwYvvXK8.html

Late, I know, but fun fact #6: the image on the back of the $2 bill is the same image that used to be on the $1 food stamp bill, back when they used paper for food stamps instead of a card. At least in California, dunno about other states.

Two dollar bills used to be common currency at horse race tracks. The two dollar bet was common. I recall once coming home with some twos and my dad asking me if I’d been “betting on the ponies.” (I was only 16 so, no.)

@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary
@TheTwoDollarBillDocumentary 5 лет назад
All the denomination but $1s and $2s have been changed several times, once for design sake and more recently, to add security features. Since no one is really worried about people counterfeiting $1s and $2s, they haven't changed much at all. The $2 did have a red seal and serial numbers until 1966, so it has changed at least once in a century.
