As an European I’m really surprised about the prices. Matt had a half full basket for 50$ and jasmin had to really find a store where she could afford anything. In Europe you can buy enough for 2$ to make a decent breakfast. Including fresh fruit and milk.

One issue may be that in a lot of stores so much is packaged in huge amounts. So it’s hard to buy just what you need for one meal for yourself. You can’t buy strawberries by weight it’s just a pint or a quart. A pint of milk is only $.50 if you buy the whole gallon. Buying a pint container of milk tends to cost you the same as a a chilled soft drink-$1.50 or even $2.00.

In Indonesia, we have vanillin (artificial vanilla flavoring) powder in teeny tiny 20 grams bottle for about Rp5,000 (0.34 US$) each. Also a little goes a long way.
