Here's the deal, at Sparks Motors we are over flowing with talented mechanics and fabricators, and we have to be in order to meet the crazy deadlines and ideas of @HeavyDSparks . But we also have other customers that need help and when Diesel Dave (Dave Kiley) , Hans Peterson, and Heavy D (Dave Sparks) can't get to them we have to call on back-up. Luckily we have amazing neighbors and in todays episode you will see @DavesAutoCenterCenterville prove why they are the most comprehensive and knowledgeable engine shop around!
Today we look at a Will It Start of a customer that spent $20k in building a dream vehicle that doesn't run. They called Sparks Motors to save them and get this thing running and that is exactly what we will do. WILL IT START? Absolutely it will!
Thank you for liking and subscribing to our channel. We want to continue bringing you incredible builds, will is starts, restorations and good 'ol shenanigans.

Every honest review is a horror story about charging people hundreds of dollars for misdiagnosis and repairs at 3x dealer prices and threating customers about negatively reviewing him. If I was sparks i woukd try to distance myself from this guy.

Is distributor knowledge really that rare these days? Watching this guy try to set timing is giving me a twitch.
@jamestsmith4500
@jamestsmith4500 3 месяца назад
@@Demonphoto Distributor knowledge is rare with the students graduating from technical schools today because the engines today don't have distributors. When the engine manufacturers went to computers operating the engines along with stricter emissions, they did away with distributors. I got my automotive degree back during the late 70's with distributor and carburetor type engines. When they changed to fuel injection the computer age started. You had to have been trained on distributor engines to really know how to install or correct an improperly installed distributor. Refreshing my degree 20 years later showed me how technology has changed and when a distributor engine came in, I was chosen to instruct the class on distributor mechanics because even the instructor was rusty. believe it or not, real talk..

Love those Toyota FJ’s. Had a ‘72 with a sbc 283ci in it. Those are 10 times the vehicle as a Jeep and would go through the mud better because both pumpkins on the front and rear ends were lined up unlike a Jeep whose were offset. Meaning on a Jeep you were pushing 2 pumpkins through the mud but on a FJ the front pumpkin pushed the mud out of the way for the rear one.

I had a few FJ40’s back in the past. I had a 1974, two 1976’s, two 1978’s, and a 1981. I had a blast fully rebuilding these things from the ground up. I sold one of the 1978’s to a Whalers hockey player Grant Jennings who still has the thing over 30 years later!! Absolutely love the FJ40. The 1981 was set up for the US Forestry Service as an example of how strong and reliable they could build one, but shortly afterwards they were told they had to use a US brand. It sat for 10 years not getting any miles put on it until one of the folks taking over the building it was in was given ownership and started driving it around for an errand rig. Definitely was not an enthusiast type (lucky for me, lol) and he hated the thing. “It’s like driving a brick. I’d rather have a little SUV like a Blazer. 🤦‍♂️ At the time with a price of $2500, he basically gave it to me. Ready for this? 22,000 miles on the thing, lol. After putting about 20,000 miles on it the prices went nuts for awhile and I just HAD to sell it. Boy do I wish I held on to that thing for todays prices. 😵😵

Two things I check and frequently end up replacing in Small block Chevies. They are the oil pump and the timing chain and gear set. Both are prone to failure on a old engine. The stock timing chain set often has nyon teeth that strip and cause a timing jump. If he is going to have to replace the timing cover to get a timing mark then inspect and replace timing chain and gear set while cover is off if necessary. This might be the cause of the original timing problem. The old oil pumps are just not up to the job if a kid puts his foot into it. Just from 60 years of experience with SB Chevs.
