What's your favorite Korean food? The Jeju Black Pork might be my favorite! My previous video from Sejong, Korea: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RTulIBnQM8I.htmlsi=7S8GkWsd39V5XYZn
Hi Ken. I have not eaten a lot of Korean food, but I do love kimchee and eat it almost every day, usually with my breakfast. It is popular here in Thailand and you can buy it in every supermarket.
You usually only have people cook for you at higher end bbq restaurants. That lady was very generous with her time showing you different flavour combinations for ssam (lettuce wraps).
27:34 It is not called 'Korean Barbecue' or 'Barbecue' in Korea. It is commonly called by the name of the meat part. For example, '삼겹살(Samgyeopsal)[pork belly]', '목살(Moksal)[pork neck]', '갈매기살(Galmaegisal)[skirt meat]'.... and They are called differently depending on the cooking method. For example, pork belly(삼겹살) is variously called '삼겹살(Samgyeopsal)'or'삼겹살 구이(Samgyeopsal gu-i)' when grilled, '수육(Suyuk)' when boiled in water, and '제육볶음(JeyukBokkeum)' when stir-fried with red pepper seasoning. So, ( 27:45 ) The process you did can call it '목살(Moksal)' or '목살 구이(Moksal gu-i)'. However, Barbecue in Korea means meat grilled by fire.
I enjoyed watching the video. I could see from the video that Hawaii in Asia is Jeju Island. Above all, I love the blue sky. It is always cloudy in Europe, so it is hard to see clear weather, but the sky is so clear in Jeju Island. I will wait for the next video.
I really enjoyed this vlog of yours in Jeju island.Your politeness to the people that you meet is truly admirable. This bbq meal looks so yummy and you are correct to emphasise that good meats are not to be spoilt with sauces.😂Looking forward to the next destination Ken.Stay safe!💕🇲🇾
Love your videos!💯I’m actually going to South Korea next year for the first time - can’t wait❤️I hope to see a travel video from Japan btw😍Greetings from new sub in Norway 🇳🇴
Long time subscriber here Ken you have inspired me to book a trip to Thailand for one month in November looking forwards to visiting SE Asia thanks to your channel
Me lol. If his official language was portuguese I'd understand he saying pork, because 'pig' in portuguese is 'porco'. But always when I saw he saying pork I wanted to tell him pig lol.
An interesting tour in that market and it's very clean and well organised. Yeah, that souvenir of the statues is cute, a good choice, Ken. Haha, how creative that ice cream vendor is 😂 Wow, that BBQ meal of black pork is awesome. Interesting to see you enjoying it. And a great experience for you, too 👍👍 Well, FUN VIDEO indeed and in fact all your episodes of your Korea series are fun and entertaining. Hats off to you, Ken, for doing such a great job. Have a good weekend !!
It's a video that contains a lot of useful information necessary for traveling to Korea. And when I need to throw away trash in Korea street, I usually use trash cans in each convenience store.
I just came back from Jeju. There are many beautiful beaches. About trash bin, i normally take small plastic bag to put trash. And throw away in a hotel. U tried the small piece of mandarin and u can throw it in the shop as soon as u tried. Hope u come back to Korea soon.
Nice haircut. Just found your channel. Your travel blogs are great, so authentic. Very enjoyable, informative and great fun. You have great upbeat, friendly, personality. I loved traveling but left with some long term problems from Covid so travel is not possible anymore so with travel blogs I get to travel again. I'm fascinated by Korea, Korean culture, food. It looks like such a beautiful country. Watching you figure out transportation etc is fun and informative. You really make viewer feel like they are experiencing it themselves.
Regarding public trash bins, Korea introduced pay as you throw system which is a pollution tax. Anything you throw away, you purchase a bag and throw away your trash. People started to throw their household trash into the public bins to avoid paying for bags so they got rid of majority of the trash bins. I think they should have public bins in the market though or next to food stalls but yeah it's hard to find. I usually throw my small rubbish near convenient stores as they have bins
That man who asked for your channel filmed very well! Kudos to him. Super travel series btw, been really relaxing to watch. Been enjoying the last week. Cheers from Yukon Territories Canada!
I've enjoyed watching your vlogs of Korea. It's an amazing country and I'm visiting Korea and Japan again this October. Ich habe 12 Jahre in Rothenburg odT gelebt und war auch von der Umgebung begeistert. 😊
Thanks Ken another great video. The food all looks so delicious. I think I would really like that cheese stuffed meat and the BBQ pork! Happy travels 👍
Actually your travel channel is by far the best BECAUSE everything happens quite spontaneously. Really feels like being a travel companion! All the best and safe travels here from Frankfurt Airport. If you happen to come to the airport here, let me know!
Jeju Island/Jeju Do is a famous island, home to the traditional haenyeo free diving (no oxygen tanks, just holding their breath) women who made/make their living collecting shell fish in the ocean waters around the island to sell. If you like sea food, I would look into eating some of the island’s fresh seafood caught the old fashioned way. The history of the haenyeo women are also fascinating.
Hello and good evening, Ken and everyone here. Wow, what a smooth and easy flight to Jeju Isiand/ "Hawaii of Korea" 👍 A nice and comfy hotel room, thanks for the tour. Oh wow, what an amazing sunset you have captured there !! Loved that part where a boat sailed past... it's gorgeous. That Korean cheese pork cutlet looks yum yum yum. A good try and great that you loved it 👍👏
I am so happy ,you eat and drink like us, nothing inhibited very straight forward, very sombre n respectful, i like your videos, stay in Asia as long as possible,,,,,
Hi Ken I love your RU-vid videos in Korea my fav country. It makes me reminisce so well, I have tears. I visited 3 times, 1st time for 6 months and stayed with Korean family each time. They are so friendly and welcoming and take you everywhere & introduce you to friends who will take you somewhere, omg. It was heaven and I said, there’s no way I could reciprocate all these favours and kindness in my own country Canada. Not so many friends and country too big and expensive. For westerners, especially retired and with Korean friends, it’s the best place to be. Now am a grandmother and not well enough to travel but I miss this country and my friends so much 😢. I really wanna go back. I really wanna see all your Korean videos. Kamsahapnida for your videos.
I wish I could remember the names of the places we visited on Jeju Island when we were there in 2010. We stayed at the Lotte Hotel and took a tour of the island. I love your video of the food. We had good food there at the hotel, but not on the bus tour. We did see the lava tube and an area well known for art. Jeju is considered South Korea's Hawaii, however, having spent many a time in the Hawaiian islands, I do not believe Jeju comes even close to being like Hawaii. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our weekend on Jeju.
🇰🇷I’m Korean, found your videos in Instagram, just watched your videos traveling Korea. I loved how you enjoyed Korea. Your raw visits and reviews are interesting. Thank you for taking a good look at Korea. I hope you come to Korea again later. I will recommend more places for you. Subscribed👍
Ken, I really enjoy your videos because you have a very positive attitude and you are polite. Many residences/hotels have doors that swing out instead of inward to accommodate shoes that are taken off before entering the living areas. Korean people, like many other countries, do not wear shoes into living spaces. That is why you tripped on the little step. 😂 Also, it is my understanding that the lack of trash cans is by design to minimize rodents and negative trash issues. I find it helpful to carry a small bag for rubbish and then dispose of the bag at the hotel. Safe travels!
I miss Jeju. It's such a nice place. It used to be popular to rent a place for months to stay in Jeju for some sort of soul searching and "healing" among Koreans. Jeju holds a special place in many Koreans' hearts.
Great vlog. Very similar experiences to my first trip to Jejudo in 2017 when I also stayed in Jeju City. The next two trips to Jejudo I stayed on the South Coast which has more of a tourist, holiday vibe and has many hotel resorts. You can still swim there when it is raining, the sea temps are surprisingly warm in summer (warm currents coming up from the south). You should have tried the anchovy sauce at the BBQ, its a Jeju speciality and tastes amazing! You should have tried Haemultang which is a seafood stew, its amazing! If you go again, explore the south coast which has some spectacular views and some nice beaches too (see Jungmun beach).
This video really makes wanna go back to Jeju, if you already enjoy black pork wait until you try the wateraged black pork. That is honestly still my favorite meat ever
Nice black pork barbeque. So yummy! Last been to Cheju Island more than 10 years ago😅 Have you seen the actual pig? Its black color. Will you go to Japan after Korea? Japan too have delicious food. Never get bored going to Japan❤️
Perhaps you could also post which hotels, restaurants, and map aereas you are visiting. There might be a potential financial reward for your endorsement. Either way it would be nice to frequent some of the businesses that you highlight. I wish there were more videos of Korea.
At 3:00, the taxi drive looks getting angry because taxi should stop at the taxi stop, not at the Bus stop. So he told " taxi no stop ", which means that taxi is not allowed to stop at the Bus stop here. Therefore, all passengers should follow a rule of traffic. If you get more information on the Jeju airport, you should wait at Taxi stop. Btw, enjoy the Jeju trip.
U booked a nice hotel room. The places u hve been to look clean. The Korean lady who speaks English served u a platter of delicious food. The sunset is amazingly beautiful. I really like the market, big n nice with the merchandise orderly arranged. Trying out the black pork in a nice restaurant n served by a beautiful Korean lady. The bill u received is inclusive of chef fee😄Jeju island is indeed a beautiful island. 🙏👍 I like wat I see😍 tqvm, Ken for this great video.
I was worried that you might meet people who were angry or frustrated, but fortunately, that didn't seem to be the case. I hope your trip to Korea will be a good memory. I enjoyed the video!
Love your videos! You would be so much fun to travel with and have inspired me to get out of my shell and travel solo… now to just figure out where to go!
We call these kinds of places '고깃집' which pronounces as go-git-jib, meaning this is a place selling meats. Plus, that robot thingy isn't really common in Korea too, but you may see them operating here and there. Speaking of side dishes, it's quite common to have them complimentary if you sit down for a meal in 고깃집 anyways. Hope you enjoyed Korea as much as you expected and good luck to you for traveling all around the world. Be safe :)
There are no public trashcans in Korea or Japan. They have strict refuse protocols with specific bags for specific refuse categories. Best tip is to carry a small plastic bag when you're out to collect them to sort and dispose when you return to your lodging, or when dining at a restaurant ask if they have a trashcan and dispose your small trash that way.
