Turning a $20 guitar into a $200 guitar over the course of 3 weeks is absolutely hilarious. This is the exact type of nonsense I do. Well done mate, values are meaningless, it’s the journey and the friends we make along the way amirite!?
@RisingSunGuitarMods
@RisingSunGuitarMods 5 месяцев назад
That’s it man, it’s definitely not to make something valuable. This is a hobby for me and I find it a great way to enjoy guitars. And like you said. The friends made that have similar interests is worth the effort. I don’t sell these anyway. Made for my own collection as the memories of getting the guitar and then building it is what has value for me. 👍🤘🏼

Loving the " it's what I had " aspect of this build. I'm currently building a Tele for my 10 year old grandson and '"it's what I had " is the motto of my build.

YES! I'm all about using parts I have around, trying to make use of what you can. Even the refret in the first vid were frets I had for about 5 years, I think they were in a guitar case I bought somewhere, so fare this guitar has only cost me time. Everything else, including the white paint and clear coat is left overs from other projects. All the best on your build for your grandson, I'm sure he will be super excited! 👍

Enjoying the husk rebuild. I've done husk rebuilds and parts rebuilds, and it is always very satisfying to take something that most folks have written off (example: a bass husk with a body broken in halves), and turn it back into a very playable and desirable instrument.

Regarding the high prices for paint etc in Australia, try any BIg auto store like auto pro or auto one, they can mix paint for any car colour ever, from massive colour chart books, or match a colour if you have a sample, and supply the paint ready to spray as liquid. Even better for guitars, they can even put your colour paint into *spray cans* for you! I was amazed. Definitely check it out. 👍
@RisingSunGuitarMods
@RisingSunGuitarMods 6 месяцев назад
Yep had a go at this, places here are generally 2k or Acrylic. Hard to find a lacquer or better a Nitro. If you found a brand let me know. I’d be keen to try. But that being said 2k finishes have given me the best results so far as they are a chemical hardener so they cure much faster and much harder.
@wizrom3046
@wizrom3046 6 месяцев назад
@@RisingSunGuitarMods yeah 2k is definitely the way to go. 👍 Not sure why people get the nitro nostalgia, the manufacturing world jumped to embrace ANYTHING else lol.

Thinly painted Acrylic enamel car paint out of a can is awesome, you can use the 50's GM colour chart for the Fender colours and it even finish checks nicely if you want it to.

I can't believe how lucky you were to find that on Marketplace. It's getting as overpriced as Gumtree nowadays. (At least in Melbourne) re: stains - I had good luck with buying the Crimson Guitars concentrates and having it sent over from the UK. Worked out decently priced for shipping as they are tiny bottles. A few drops in water and you're good to go. I have not tried the alcohol based ones though.

In some ways the headstock is like a mini-repetition of the body, so perhaps a thin line of black could work. Otherwiese, leave as-is!

A couple of questions for you. Did you mean Facebook market place? (I’ve never used it to buy anything as it seems to be a thieves playground) The other question is what kind of paint did you use? Finding decent rattle can paint in Oz seems to be constant sea of shifting sand. Acrylic is an easy option at Bunnings but the result isn’t always ideal.
@RisingSunGuitarMods
@RisingSunGuitarMods 6 месяцев назад
Yes mate, Facebook. But only do a deal in person. Because you’re right. Scammers everywhere. I’m using Montana Gold paint. It’s a graffiti paint from Officeworks. It’s says on the can that it is a Nitro Acrylic, but it takes a long time to harden here in QLD, I think due to the humidity. 🤘🏼The best results I’ve had so far are with 2k cans, but they are 50 bucks each.

Really cool build. I just can't get over the zero fret. My whole life it's been part and parcel with a really low-quality guitar. I'm sure it's just a bias and someone will correct me that Fender and Gibson and Martin all use zero frets and I'm wrong blah-blah-blah but I just don't like them.
@RisingSunGuitarMods
@RisingSunGuitarMods 5 месяцев назад
Thanks man. The zero fret was really common for this era. A lot of vintage guitars made outside the US had them. You can remove them but I don’t mind them. On one hand the open strings sounds the same as a fretted ones. I also have a 1959 Hofner with one. I don’t think it’s a low quality thing though. Maybe make a good video. “Why did they use zero frets?”
