Not all 2-strokes have expansion chamber as on the dirt bikes. The street 2-strokes usually don't have or is very small compared to dirt bikes.

It doesn’t rev out because it doesn’t have an mx pipe on it. It’s allowing zero scavenging which is what a 2t relies on for optimal performance. That little bike will blow ur mind once u find the model pipe that belongs on it. That could be an awesome bike!!

@@chefboyardee885 no it needs to have a chamber. It scavenges unspent fuel that reverberates Orr the back cone which gives it its true performance. I’m surprised it goes as good as it does in this video. With a proper exhaust this will be a powerful machine

An expansion chamber not only scavenges the exhaust, it's also designed to time the pressure waves that keep the new fuel/air mixture from flowing out of the exhaust port. Some escapes anyway, Much more is escaping with that straight pipe. Not too restrictive. Take a look at the stinger at the end of a stock bike's exhaust baffle, the diameter of it's opening is much smaller than the pipe that you have on that bike.

Brings back memories. Used to have a 1980 CR80. Bought it for 300$ in 1982 as a basket case. Had a bad shift fork, cracked side cover and the piston was cracked. Had some good times on that thing. Would ride the right away under the power lines down to the gravel pit. My cloths were so stained from the clay it never came clean. Funny how we could get around without using the roads.

2 stroke exhaust pipes have an expansion chamber (the big bulge in the pipe) that goes down to a small diameter pipe allowing proper back pressure and producing more power for the 2 stroke engine. Anywho, great video Joe!! I really hope you find some plastics and invest a little more into the CR80. It could be a sweet little bike!!

This guy showed me basically how to fix my 1972 Honda c70 just watching him repeatedly fixing carbs and doing throttle cables and other basic maintenance I felt confident enough to fix it myself I just put a coil pack in cause the old spark plug wire and the internals got cut up by a person who I previously paid to fix it and got f#ked over. Traded a new iphone and 300$ cash to fix it and it got dropped off at my house in shambles. It's my grandparents moped from my mom and my uncle's childhood and they gave it to me to fix it was sitting in their basement for well over 25 years. I'm just glad to see it running and driving now and so are my grandparents I wanted to get it done before they go...

I remember when those bikes were new . They were damn fast! The tank is worth what you paid for it. The exhaust pipe is an Evo sporster pipe. The shocks aren't original. They had piggyback shocks. Also I remember that they had a chromoly cylinder. Had to replate them. No boring out. I saw 1 on Craigslist for $3000. I'm sure it will be costly to restore but worth it IMO. Parts are still around. We had 1 come through our shop and mostly complete. I wanted to fix it up but the boss parted it out. That was a sad day for me. Thanks

Some kid with this bike could be the next world champion dirt track monster rider. If you put a new head gasket and the proper pipe on it he could ride this thing literally to death even with a slipping clutch. It might have enough power to actually hurt itself with a proper pipe.

Yeah, definitely needs a large expansion chamber to get the most out of this as it's just such a straight through system.. the back pressure is needed to keep those explosions contained where they should be. Obviously needs absolutely the right jets after that too but it's a weary process to find the exact right ones without a dynamometer.. :/

Those are not the stock Showa shocks. Those are Fox with dual spring rates, and are longer for larger travel. The Showas were piggyback and shorter. It looks like the fork has been lengthened with a Terry kit? If you ever pull the cylinder and find it ported and polished...it may be my old bike ;-))
