@smlove297 I have experienced this in the past as well. Make sure you have a good battery in the wheeler as these machines can be finicky without the correct battery voltage. To initialize the ecu you must do the following sequence. Start up the engine and idle it for 30 seconds with sub tranny in neutral Position the shift lever to D making sure indicated on dash Drive forward 5 ft Position Shift lever to N (indicated on dash) turn key to off position move drive switch to d1 turn on the key switch while pushing up and down shift buttons at the same time check that N blinks on dash release buttons then press up,dn,up and listen for shift motor to adjust angle sensor, dash should show --- within 5 seconds move throttle from fully closed to full wide open and back check dash for constant N.

@@rockspowersports thank you. I reset the angle sensor that way when I put it in. If this doesn't work and good battery could it possibly be the control shift motor?

@@SL40cal So I just looked in the book and code 5 is Angle sensor system (motor lock) so yes it could be your shift motor is stuck in between gears. I would remove it to see if it’s stuck. You may have to replace the shift motor if it keeps sticking. The manual says to check for loose or contact on the connectors going to the ecm, angle sensor and control motor.

@@rockspowersports removed control shift motor and appeared to be bad. Ordered a new one. When I replace it do I need to do the reset like the one you do for the angle sensor replacement

Yes it is. This one’s much nicer though as it has electic start and reverse. Also shaft driven.

@@rockspowersports The 83 tri-Moto only has a pull start, chain-driven, & no reverse.
