4wd community is awesome! My Unimog got stolen a couple of years back (interstate, long story) and without the help from locals 4000km away I would have never got it back.

Well done, boys. I had a mate who had his cruiser stolen from the Southside of Brisbane, and because he had a GPS tracker in it, he tracked it down in millmeron on the Darling Downs. Worth getting GPS for your vehicle.

Hi mate good to see you got your truck back my Youngest boy, just had his 80 series cruiser stolen last night 17/8/23 he is A third year electrical apprentice, all his tools and half his camping gear was in the car as well. We just fitted a brand-new clutch the night before and he has been working on the car getting it ready to do Fraser island next year? We hope he gets the truck backs soon cheers Darren

They're mostly very accurate in the USA because all the sheep there have iphones. It's the same with those Tile tags. they work poorly because there's not many people with the app installed

A slap on the wrist, a small fine and a years good behaviour bond. Meanwhile this crew of scumbags will have already opened another bolthole/shiffty shed where they are already stripping cars. A good flogging would be more appropriate. In Arab countries they cut off the hands of thieves...which I am not suggesting at all, at all, at all , because that would be just terrrrrible.

Glad you found it,when we are outdoor people every body put a lot of dollars in there rigs.we invested a tracker and hide,it away ,it got a phone app plus it own battery.I reckon everyone should put one in there vehicles,some where .

I have heard of some companies that you take your vehicle to to have something fixed or upgraded have a key copied and then take your vehicle after a month or so to take suspension off them. I don’t know if that’s true or not but it is something I have heard happening to people that have had a lot of money spent on their vehicles

Yes! At any mechanic: Also, remove any/ ALL other keys, PLUS any home address details in the car! They copy keys and address, 6 months down the track, boom!!!! ))):

Towed, locks picked and computer to start it, or keys copied by someone that’s worked on the car.

Stoked you got it back. I have a kill switch in mine. There's an ignition circuit at the passenger side fuse box you can run it off to a switch somewhere. My misses can't even find my switch.

You are reaIIy fortunate that the poIice turned out and even more fortunate to get your vehicIe back. Here in the UK if you report a stoIen vehicIe the poIice do not attend but give you a crime number over the phone for your insurance company.

My HDJ79 was stolen in Darwin, i was able to recover it with minimal damage so far. They ripped the ignition out and hot wired it. If you dont have a tracker in your cruisers you need to install a gps immobiliser i got one by Mongoose, runs off a sim amd will send a notification if its being moved and you can shut it down if they are doing less than 60kmh, crime in the north is out of control

Great story - glad you got it back mate! Out of curiosity (as I don't want the same to happen to my cruiser) - how did they manage to steal it without the keys? Can they still hotwire cars these days?

Best guess is that they cut and copied keys while it was getting worked on at some point... 😳 pretty scary really when you think how many different places work on a car over the years. Just have to use good businesses that employ decent people. Speak to any lock smith if you want to find out how easy it is to do.

Fantastic news u got ner back in one piece, soon as I heard I felt so sorry for u. I fitted a tracker great insurance. Trouble is the Police bust their arse to catch them the Judicial system slaps them with a limp lettuce leaf especially youth or indigenous offenders. It just sucks.

Hidden coils switch fuel pump switch ecu switch is my security. The new diagnostic scanners some can read the key code from the obd port and copy it over or can just start it. Gadget costs like 300 on the net. To get my toys going have to tow it. Always be weary who you let work on your ride.

Probably by using a cracked car computer which can program the car to accept another key, or the thief's might have been following them around in order to get a read from the owners RFID chip inside the car key and then clone it to their own key. There's a lot of ways to steal cars and new cars are not protected against it. Or maybe they used a flipper zero device or something similar.

Hey, IF you car has no proper ignition key, that is, it has a a push button start, the easy way to stop anyone porting the code is to simply put the keys in a fully enclosed metal tin, like granny’s old tea caddy. It stops the key transmitting the code.

Any teenager who has been to juivy knows how to steal a 79 series with their antiquated security. Luckily most of them can't drive a manual. I just don't know where you got this idea that they are un-stealable. Immobilisers are nothing.

Key can be copied and cut by anyone as soon as you hand over your keys. Anyone that has worked on your car could have a key. Not something we ever though about but very possible

As cheesy as this sounds perhaps a good quality steering wheel lock/club lock would have deterred or slowed them down from doing this, perhaps them cutting it would made noise and woke ya dog or you up. Glad to hear you got it back.

FYI its highly likely your key fob was remotely copied (from someone on the street) to unlock the car, putting it in git in a faraday cage (metal box) blocks the signal.

Heard good things about the cellular gps tracking. The apple AirTag did the job but uses iPhones for location so not quite as good
