Great video! I'm taking apart my Vrondriss precon and making it into a Miiryn deck. Klauth and the Ancient Dragons (specially Copper and Silver) are a must imo, and you also need some haste and counterspells.
I built Miirym very similar except I included more clones and shapeshifters. Interesting you mention Animar, I drafted Animar recently and looked at him as a chance to cast dragons cheaper. Considering him for the 99. Also there’s the various dragon orb rocks. I included both of the red ones.
Looks super fun and strong to play with, the drake that makes you play dragons at instant speed is really strong on this deck . i would include a garruks uprising giving your creatures trample so your friends dont just block your dragons with a 1/1 and also is a card draw very important so you never cool off. Let me know what rares/mythics you got on your DM2 draft
Thanks for the feedback. I'm looking at things to change while playtesting and card draw seemed to be a little slow and extra trample would be welcome. I went 0/3 (lol) in the draft but pulled a Mana Vault and a Borderless Foil Forbidden Orchard so it wasn't all bad!
Quick question on rules for copying tokens in a Miirym deck. Say I have Miirym on the board and I copied it with Spark Double so now I have 2 copies of Miirym and a Token copy. Say I also have Terror of the Peaks on the board with one Token copy. I cast Second Harvest to create a copy of my Tokens. Do I get to chose the order they enter the battlefield? Like can I have my copy of Terror of the Peaks enter first and deal 10 damage from the triggers on my first 2 Terror of the Peaks and then have my copy of Miirym enter the battlefield and deal 18 from the triggers on my now 3 Terror of the Peaks for a total of 28? Or do they both enter the same time and I only deal 22 damage from the triggers of only my 2 Terror of the Peaks
Great question here. As I understand it would go like this. Miirym on board -> Cast Spark Double targeting Miirym (cast trigger) -> resolves -> Spark Double enters as a non-legendary copy of Miirym -> Miiyrm ability triggers on the Spark Double ETB -> a 2nd, token copy of Spark double entering as a copy of Miirym enters the battlefield (no further ETB triggers). Assuming you also now have two copies of Terror of the Peaks on board, when you cast second harvest you gain priority and may then pass priority to your opponent. Your opponent passes priority back and the spell resolves. The spell resolves and creates the tokens which enter the battlefield at the same time. This causes your Terror of the Peaks abilities to trigger. You'll then need to place those abilities on the stack in any order you choose. When you do that however, priority will be passing back and forth between you and your opponent. This is key because state based actions are checked for any time a player would receive priority (704.3). The rule text for Second Harvest states that "It doesn’t copy whether that token is tapped or untapped, whether it has any counters on it or any Auras and Equipment attached to it, or any non-copy effects that have changed its power, toughness, types, color, or so on." What I think this means is your Miirym token would enter as a Legendary copy. In order to have your effects trigger, you'll first have to sacrifice the Legendary token or the original to continue placing the triggers on the stack. But because they did enter the battlefield, the Terror of the Peaks triggers may still resolve. So in this situation, it is my opinion that you would receive 2 Terror of the peaks triggers. 1 for Mirrym and 1 for Terror of the Peaks entering the battlefield at the cost of not getting to keep either the Mirrym token or the original. In order to get three Terror of the Peaks triggers, a 3rd copy would have to already of been on the battlefield and seen the other creatures ETB.
@@CRGGames why would my Terror of the Peaks and Miirym tokens be legendary? Spark double becomes a copy of Miirym that’s not legendary and creates a copy that’s still not legendary and my token copy of Terror of the Peaks would be non legendary and second harvest just creates copies of tokens I already have so all my tokens should be non legendary.
@@markdziamski4859 Second Harvest doesn't copy any additional modifiers of the targeted card. This would include the bit about Miirym where the token it creates is non-legendary. So Second Harvest would just create a new token called Terror of the Peaks and Mirrym, Miiyrm being aLegendary creature. I'm fairly certain that is correct but perhaps others can lend advice as well.
Or instead or relying on a clunky 2 card combo to tap down all your opponents stuff why don’t you just play 1 4 mama costed sleep which will specifically tap down one opponent for 2 blue and 2 generic?
That's definitely an option. Sometimes I like to power down the decks and make them more difficult to play. Adds to the fun factor for me. Thanks for watching!
I love the deck and i tried it out myself but couldn't do anything. It never wins for me. Played 3 games and the whole table used all their removal and focused on me. It's not the deck it's was just the group. It's still very strong especially if it gets 3 people target you before the game starts
I just built this deck!! I added and think will work well Sarkhan’s unsealing Defense of the heart Kindred summons (with your commander out will be insane!!!) Utvara it’s any dragon attacks put up a 6/6 great value Scourge of valkas And lathliss for more value!! I do like your list very week done
This is a cool way to build it, I'd definitely put a copy of Dragon's Hoard in though, ramp in the early game and mid - late it's a free card every turn. I opted for a ton of blink in the deck, dodge targeted removal and get more dragons for the trouble ☺️ also Utvara Hellkite with Terror of the Peaks is so broken it's not even funny lol
I went with artifact/Enchantment mana reduction. My Dragon Speaker Shaman and Dragonlord’s Servant kept dying to removal and board wipes. So now I use Urza’s Incubator, Herald’a Horn, Ruby Medallion, and Shadow in the Warp.
Looks good! I love those old files too just like that Goblin you have. Im glad Wizards printed cards in retro foils in some recent sets to resemble the older foils. I hope they continue doing so.
Nice deck, seems fun. I have a myriim deck also, and something really usefull are the haste enchanments, Fires of Yavimaya, Rhythm of the Wild and Temur Ascendancy, the later being also card draw when almost all dragon's etbs. And Defense of the Heart is a card that demand answer or you can win on the spot. The goblin combo is sweet I didn't know that card. Anyway have fun with the deck.
I see where Thassa comes in, I'd double down on the effect with a Conjuror's Closet. Do you have a lot of ETBs? No. Do you have a Sneak Attack that would benefit greatly from Thassa/Closet? Yes. Plus worst case Closet is pseudo-vigilance on a creature. As for extra lifegain, a Shadowspear is worth considering, especially since you ping so it can remove Indestructible and Hexproof for 1. Finally, Crucible of Fire combos pretty well with Terror of the Peaks. Just like with making multiple tokens at once all seeing each other, it'll enter with 3 extra power, so you'll get extra damage out of it. I'm guessing you need to get Parallel Lives and Doubling Season, as they are staples for any token deck.
I was unaware of Crucible of Fire and luckily a foil is only about $5! You're right on Parallel Lives and Doubling Season. I don't have either at the moment but they're on the list of staples to get. It's still in the works so all the feedback is super helpful!
"I am the world's slowest deck builder." Dude, I have two different decks I have been working on for YEARS. One is Minotaur tribal (3+ years), and the other is Cascade tribal (1 1/2 years)
Hmm, the difference I guess perhaps is the price, however I run my Miirym as a fast paced Tiamat style Deck. Can I give you advice on what I'd change? 1. Consider Changing out some of those Orbs, they're 3 mana and to be honest the benefits aren't great for that additional mana against say signet. You're gonna be cheating or using treasures to cast your dragons, ideally not rocks. 2. Dragons Tempest, Lohzan, Scourge of Valkas and Terror of the peaks are a No brainer here, on their own they can all potentially win you the game if you can flicker them. 3. I mentioned flicker as you will need a lot of it. Deadeye Navigator is a must have for that reason and combo synergy. Whilst expensive the ability to flicker a creature with an ETB is scary like the ones mentioned above. Additionally using Rapacious Dragon, Dockside and Ganax along with Deadeye are all infinite combos within themselves. 4. Tutors, they're so important for this Deck. Seeing as i take the instant treasure approach, i use sarkhans triumph, bring to light, worldly tutor and Magda. 5. I mentioned Magda and holy batnuggets people are sleeping on this combo. Ganax, Rapacious, Ancient Copper Dragon, Goldspan, Dockside and old gnawbone will surge you to a great victory here. Just get treasures and spawn your who dragon deck and you've pretty much won. 6. You desperately need haste and Card draw, for that reason I have Temur ascendancy, Rhythm of the Wild, Ancient Silver Dragon, Rhystic Study and Dragons Hoard. 7. If you're feeling really spicy, Blade of Selves can be disgusting here, especially with the ETBs from Ganax, Scourge, Terror, Astral, Dockside. 8. Lastly Lotus Bloom, Hellkite Charger and Niv Mizzet Parun are fantastic choices for this Deck,
Great suggestions man! Several of the cards you listed are currently in the mail on the way. I bet your version absolutely stomps at the table! I'll be changing it up a little and optimizing for play at my LGS! Thanks for watching!
Idk, This also lacks a Klauth. He has haste, and with Myrrim alone he can net you 28 Mana in one turn(6 from myrrim, 4 from him and 4 from his copy). Doubled because his copy does the same). Works perfect with dragon storm to shit out dragons as you find them and finish out oponents as you play down your entire hand(And re-feed with Kindred Discovery or Nature's bond). He is singlehanded my best dragon and that can win me the game in one turn.
Hello, Have you considered upgrading Breath Weapon to Flame Sweep? Breath Weapon might backfire against your mana dorks AND opponents Changelings, while Flame Sweep hurts every creature EXCEPT yours with flying (so Birds of Paradise is safe). I understand that Flame Sweep might hurt some of your Dragons without flying but being able to "sweep" opponents changelings might outweigh this downside.
love the list! i play something simular, hope the following is ok but i do have a little feedback from playtesting mine a bunch ;-) : consider more flicker cards: essence flux, displace, ghostly flicker and deadeye navigator are all fantastic with this commander ( ganax really helps this strategy to by making multiple treasure) since your dragons will come in double cards like elemental bond, garruks uprising and Temur Ascendancy will have a strong impact! don't forget that copies also have a mana valu (cmc) so the copies also discount earthquake dragon Mine list runs quite a few ways to make treasures and then magda is an absolute beast in a build like this, can reccommend! anyway thanks for the fun and cool list!
I also have a Miirym deck. There are a couple of cards I would perhaps reconsider. Acolyte of Bahamut, Minion of the Mighty, and maybe panharmonicon/thassa. People are starting to learn that if you leave Miirym in play... the Miirym player wins the game. I've geared mine to be a solid dragon deck but not require Miirym like the cards I listed. There aren't many other ETBs besides Miirym for panharmonicon/thassa. If those land w/o your commander they don't do much - same with Acolyte. Minion of the Mighty looks like a slam dunk but he doesn't have haste and is a very easily removable creature. He hasn't playtested well for me. Just some thoughts. Got some sick foils and full arts in that list tho.
Great feedback Anthony! I notice the lack of ETB's last night when we played a few games. Thassa really was only doing work when Miiyrm was out and it never became a creature because devotion to blue was too low. Acolyte didn't even get used, nor did Panharmonicon. Granted we only played 3 games before and after 2X2 draft. I'd like to try and keep Thassa for a bit longer and remove Panharmonicon and Acolyte for additional dragons or perhaps Mana Vault to get Miirym out sooner. There are a bunch of pre-con dragons I'm missing unfortunately so I'm still searching for those. What do you think?
What about dragon tempest? Or Scourge of Valkas? Those two will remove your opponents at a staggering rate, especially paired with 2 ancient gold dragons...
I was asking at my LGS if anyone had a Spark Double they'd like to sell or trade but no luck. I did buy a Dragon's Tempest to include though! Glad your like Miirym too!
I only have 10 dragons and one time I got so many dragons that I lost for drawing my library without a Lab or a Thassa. I don't need to cast my dragons that early. I wanted to put my opponents on a bind. Playing a Blood Moon, Teferis Puzzle box, Intruder Alarm, Winter Orb and Meekstone. Let them use their own resources to deal with it and if they don't I have my ways. I took out Mana Crypt and Mana Tithe and keep the moxes.
@@CRGGames I run 6 basics, 2 of each color. Most of the Dragons are in red. I use 12 rocks including Chromatic Lanter for mana fixing that a lot of players don't use anymore. Because of the wide use of Treasures, I included Hellkite Tyrant. I even included Godo and Helm of the Host to make my opponents scram for answers. Because I will be having a lot of Token creatures, I added Flood of Tears + Omniscience. All these cards for me are necessary. Miirym as a commander is "Kill on site right away".
I didn't realize that you didn't have to sleeve up some of the cards in your deck if you didn't want to. I was always under the impression that if you wanted to double sleeve one card, you had to double sleeve them all.
I don't think it really matters to be honest. In a tournament setting, that may be a rule. I can't tell the difference when the cards are face down in my library though. In some of the decks I don't inner sleeve cheap cards.
@@CRGGames yeah I'm not saying what you're doing isn't right, I just remember being told you had to do them all because you could tell which ones were sleeved and which weren't. Some of the guys that taught me the game were quite strict though.
A combo I brewed when Miirym was first spoiled is Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer and Thrakkus the Butcher. If there's treasure (Descent into Avernus, any other source) or just general dragon tokens, a Thrakkus token + four other tokens + Brudiclad can usually end the game
Also worth noting that Brudiclad permanently changes those tokens, so if you can get Brudiclad's combat trigger down on a token or Terror of the Peaks or something similar, that can end the game itself very often
@@CRGGames I had been sitting on a decklist under Brudiclad that I wasn't quite satisfied with, and happened to see Miirym and Thrakkus spoiled one post after the other on Reddit. I hit the table the other night with the combo, it was spicy spicy. Also, the Ghostly Flicker/Dualcaster combo does it's usual shenanigans, with the bonus of going infinite with unusually large creatures relative to it's normal showing. And I've managed to make it about 20 games in so far, Acolyte of Bahamut really underperforms in my experience so far. Cost reduction is alright, but the condition of Miirym on the board and only the first each turn hurts. Maybe consider a Temur Ascendancy for more card draw anthem effects, and consistent haste?
I think I have a Temur Ascendancy somewhere but I haven't found it yet. I may have to just order one. It would definitely go in place of Acolyte which as you mentioned does feel a bit weak. I'm starting to build up handful of decks and will need to start disassembling soon to build new ones. Starting the plans of a Voltron Geist of Saint Traft deck right now :)
I have had a lot of fun and success with a more budget Miirym, but I play it half-dragon, half-clone tribal. My goal is to create as many copies of Miirym as possible, so Sakashima comes in really handy, as does Spark Double; really any creature-clone will do, as I end up with two on the board after legend rule, and can copy the non-legendary token from then on out. I would recommend Cursed Mirror as a mana rock that gets you a creature, and goes infinite with Astral Dragon. I've had a lot of success with Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner and those kinds of etb draw effects. This is a very fun, resilient, explosive deck, so hope you enjoy it!
Cursed Mirror would be nutty! Just ordered one on your suggestion and Dragon's Tempest for make everyone a hasty boi. This feels lke it might get degenerate real quick but on the other hand....oops all Miirym sounds pretty fun :)
@@psykofanten correct, I was referring to more normal clones like Altered Ego, where the best line is normally to legend rule your commander back to the zone, but still get his trigger. 2 Miiryms are still a lot better than one ;)
@@Soulus101 Well you didnt mention that, you just mentioned two that negates the legend rule. My bad :D. If 1 Miirym is good, 2 is more better, right? :D
I can do a lot better stuff with $2300 and none of it would be playing with paper with some weirdos (yes, I also play magic but its been speeding downhill for a while. rarely actually play) played/ collected for a few years back around 2008, realized it was a wasteful money pit, with endless gimmicks and mostly weirdos playing, moved abroad and pretty much gave up. I have been collecting a few new cards but would never drop 2300 especially on a single deck.
Totally understand the viewpoint. As a collector, I accumulate these cards over time one by one and then get to build decks with them. So for me there is personal satisfaction there. Thanks for watching!
See I have Lathliss, but to be honest she's really redundant here. It's way too slow to get straight worth from her in most cases compared to other dragons which is a real shame. I love the idea and theme, but it's better off in a deck like Tiamat or Scion
