A compilation of Amtrak's Higher Speed Rail in the Midwest Corridor, just ditched the into and outro because folks do not like it, and changed the title
But one thing I have to say I DO like are the improvements Union Pacific, Federal and State assistance, and a whole lot of work have done in trainsforming this line. It has cost 2.75 billion dollars, but it has provided the Midwest with a rail corridor that provides higher speeds and more reliable trainsportation for those of us in flyover territory. An underpass for Normal Uptown Station has yet to be built to allow passengers to cross from one track to another without having to walk a great ways to get to the nearest street crossing. Many Amtrak trains meet at this station, especially trains #301 and #302 on Lincoln Service. According to FRA limitations, any speeds over 110 miles per hour would require removal of many grade crossings, which are about as common as tractors around here. So that is probably off the table for the foreseeable future.
