So I found you, because my 7 year old just started playing trumpet, and he didn't believe me when I told him the Rocky theme was a trumpet song. So I found a video of someone playing it, and he still didn't believe me. Then I found your instructional video and he started trying to play it almost immediately. The problem is he had only learned 2 notes in school! I had to scale his ambition a little bit. He has a used trumpet as well, and it is great to see someone succeeding so much with a second hand instrument.

Get a mendini trumpet it is about 100 bucks but you might be able to find something for in the $80 range just look on amazon

Hello, I'm learning trumpet for a year now. At present, I can play 7 scales from Low Ab to F Maj and Chromatic scale. Also some Songs like Can-Can, America, Ode to Joy, Twinkle Twinkle, Frere Jacques, When the Saints, My heart Will go on, Humoresque, Stars and Stripes, Thousand Years, Pink Panther Theme from your tutorial(Trumpet Guy), and a few more with slur and Articulation (Tounge). I'm also learning music theory and reading sheet music. Right now I'm using a $130 Bb trumpet from Vault (Manufactured in China). My question is, Should I upgrade my trumpet to a professional trumpet? I'm asking this because my current Trumpet valves sometimes (actually Many times) get sticky while playing and also some Times while scale descending in a slur, some notes either get out of tune or they just break off, No matter how many times I try. My instructor told me to get an Intermediate trumpet and after searching on music education and performance websites many performers recommend getting a professional trumpet. So, is it the right time to upgrade from my current instrument? If yes, then for which one shall I go for. I'm 22 now and I'm learning trumpet from 21 years age and willing to play it all my life.

First of all, C# "goes well" and doesn't "go well" with exactly the same amount of notes that absolutely any other note "goes well" or doesn't "go well" with. Musical pitch is continuous, so any frequency has the same relative harmonic relationship to all frequencies as any other frequency. Now, the concept of a C# is any number of frequencies that all share the relationship of a perfect octave in the 12 tone equal-tempered system. The reason I put quotes around "goes well" and doesn't "go well" is because what "goes well" in music is all dictated by context, as well as who is listening to the music. In any tuning system, notes can be considered consonant or dissonant with each other; which is based on what sounds overtly good or bad. However, not everyone will agree exactly on which intervals (two notes together) are consonant and dissonant. The 12 tone equal-tempered system however, has hard-established rules of music theory that dictate which intervals are consonant and dissonant (an interval's consonance/dissonance also dictates the consonance/dissonance of a chord, which is any combination of more than two notes, because each note in the chord also makes up a consonant or dissonant interval with any other note in the chord). For example, while many people would say that the interval of a perfect fourth (C and F for example) "sounds good," the rules of western music theory dictate that a perfect fourth is dissonant because it does not sound as good as a major third (C and E for example) and it wants to lead there/resolve. Not only does C and F technically resolve to C and E, it also resolves to F and A or F and C (same notes but with the C being higher). This is because consonant intervals such as perfect fifths and major thirds can be re-arranged using different octaves to create perfect fourths and minor sixths, which sound good on their own but are technically dissonant. Re-arranging the notes, especially in a chord, is called "inversion." If an F major triad (three-note chord) is put into first inversion it goes from F A C to A C F. Instead of the intervals in the chord being a major third, minor third, and perfect fifth, they are a minor third, perfect fourth, and minor sixth. The first inversion F major triad still sounds good like the "root position" triad, but it is slightly less stable and technically wants to resolve to the root position triad. This is how chords can become dissonant like intervals, with just a small change. Although there only needs to be one dissonant interval in an entire chord for the chord to be dissonant, there is not an example of a chord where (according to the rules of music theory) only one interval is dissonant, without it forming a (technically) dissonant interval with some other note in the chord. Second of all, assuming by "C# doesn't go super well with a lot of notes" he meant C# is not consonant with very many notes in the 12 tone equal-tempered system, that still doesn't make sense because of what I said earlier, but ironically he couldn't have picked two more consonant notes. E and A form the A major triad with C#, and along with a few other note combinations, those are the only technically consonant notes with C#. However, had he said that the arrangement or the inversion of the notes on the toy trumpet is dissonant, then he would be technically correct. Like my description with the F major triad, this A major chord is a triad in second inversion with a doubled fifth (E) on top. This is even more unstable than a first inversion triad, but it still sounds perfectly good in isolation. The reason the notes on the toy trumpet likely didn't sound very good when played together is because the notes are considerably out of tune with each other (in 12 tone equal temperament).
