The things you described as “dough” are called dango. Or more specifically, mitarashi dango. It’s basically a rice cake (similar to mochi), glazed in a sweet and savory soy sauce. Also, I miss the convenience stores in Japan! Japan convenience stores have the best assortment of food! If you ever come to Hawaii, you can try our 7-11s here. They are very similar to the ones in Japan. In which we have a lot of hot and fresh foods, sushi, onigiri, etc. Thank you for your Japan vlogs! 😊
@@JanandAnn Exciting! Hope you try lots of foods while you both are here! You definitely need to try poke! Pronounced “poh keh”. It is a staple here. It’s basically raw fish, often tuna, with raw sweet onion, sesame oil, chili flakes, soy sauce, green onions, and kukui nuts. There are other variations of poke such as tako (octopus) as well as salmon too, among others. If you like udon, you can try Marukame Udon. There’s one in Waikiki on Oahu. Not sure which island(s) you’re going to. There’s always a long line, but it’s well worth it. Some other things you should try is spam musubi. Another local favorite here. It’s basically spam and rice wrapped in nori seaweed. The one from 7-11 is the best. Definitely do try our 7-11 foods! You won’t be disappointed. We have food from all over Asia basically in our 7-11s. Don’t forget to try Hawaiian food here too. Kalua pig, lomi salmon, poi (acquired taste), haupia (coconut jello. Kind of like a flan, but coconut flavored). If you come to Oahu, then you also need to go to the North Shore to try the famous garlic shrimp there. As well as Ted’s Bakery pies. Haupia and chocolate pie is the best, either with or without macadamia nuts.
both of u are so cute!! japan’s convenience store food kinda reminds me of what we have at don don donki outlets here in singapore. sooo delicious thank goodness i’m watching this while having breakfast so i don’t get hungry 🤭🤭 keep up the good work! i’m a new subscriber from watching your jeju vlogs (cuz i’m going there soon hehe). loving the content! ❤️
Lovely couple, Congratulations to you guys for this new remarkable video today’s from Osaka, Japan this week of February 2023.I really LOVE to watch your great videos in great joy @ work in Philadelphia,PA. U.S.A. 2023❤❤❤
Famichiki from FamiMa is the best! The mochi on sticks is called Dango. Next time, you should try the Uni Onigiri and the Kirin Milk tea! P. S. Hawaii food trip pls 🙏
Yes...hahaha look at the corners of it next time, they're numbered. Just remember to hold it very lightly, and let the plastic slide off when you pull on numbers 2 and 3 😂
We Love it!! ❤ 😁 We are a fan of the convenient stores, 7/11 and family Mart definitely saves us $$ best way to budget travel Japan. Live off the convenience store 😆 Jan at 9:09 those things are messy, i didn’t understand the plastic dividing the rice and seaweed 🤣
Great video. I love hitting up the Japanese convenient stores. Lawson is my fave followed by the other 2. Lawson just has this red spicy chicken I love. Thanks for sharing loved y'alls reactions lol
To open onigiri 🍙 look for the #1 tab at the top and pull down and all the way to the back, then pull gently #2 and #3 then you'll open or with the nori intact. The balls on a stick is dango.
your drink is called capis water, actually that's a yogurt(light version, mied with water and light milk ...and your noodles is our very own pancit bihon japanese version...and ,Ann chan's onigiri is a seaweed onigiri
The milk water is called Calpis Water (yes weird name 😂)…sweet drink but you can get it in multiple different flavours…you got the normal version…there’s also the soda which is also delicious…its one of my fave drinks 😊 (along with the cartons of Lipton milk tea which i got completely addicted to when i was in japan)
the table counter with chairs is literally behind you as you speak that they don’t have an area where you can eat. there is also another counter right next to the umbrellas haha
Damn we didnt even notice that lol but to be fair, most of the 7eleven do have bigger sitting area with actual tables 😅 thanks for pointing that out! Haha
Nice video!! I wanna go back to Japan after watching this🙌. We really enjoyed your episode. Thanks for the effort, just to share it with us 😊 Watching from S Korea 🇰🇷❤️
you know what guys, convinient stores in Japan are far more expensive than supermarket's prices...supermarkets in Japan also have the same things in convinience stores
Just wondering, do you guys use 7-11 ATM with Canadian debit card too? heading there in a week and wondering what is the best way of getting cash ATM or money changers.
Thanks for a very informative clips about convenient and not too expensive food in Japan. We go there soon and since I do not like sea food I feel a lot more comfortable now. Hope to watch more of your new adventures. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
3 Dollar meals at convince stores that's a deal right there Jan and Ann food looks good 😊. Yeah always a good idea to have an umbrella ☔ with you even in the sun get some shade at least I love seven eleven slurpees are the best
So jealous of 7/11 in Japan. They have so much stuff. They recently built a mega-7/11 here near where I live that has seats inside and like 15 gas pumps but the food varieties are still limited (although we have some ramen).
Its crazy...the convenience store foods in a Japanese 7-11 even put some restaurants where I live (maybe just asia's 7-11 in general cause even the one in the Philippines and Hong Kong had some good stuff too)..to shame..I had such a great time in Japan, and japanese konbini's where definitely some of the highlights of my trip..
So interesting to see your reactions to items in Japanese convenience stores♥️ 13:43 It’s one of the popular soft drinks among kids in Japan! I remember I often got it at the vending machine when I was little😂 Nice try, Jan! By the way, my favorite convenience store is Lawson! Their sweets are the best
When you talk about that 7-11 having no seats or tables to eat at but then there are tables and seats in the background just as you are saying that haha?? Anyway heading to Japan soon and your vlogs are very helpful and inspiring so thank you!!
was informative but I wish you guys listed the prices of everything you picked up in the video. Just a suggestion for next video. Kinda the only reason I wanted to watch it to know the price of different items.
Great content, always love a good Japanese 711 but can you please stop shoving the food into the camera for close ups as it goes out of focus, we can see it perfectly fine without the fuzzy blurred CU. Thank you 😊
Once you have a product in your hand, you must buy it. If you don't buy it, you have to treat it with care. Did you sanitize your hands before entering the store? Did you wipe your wet shoes on the mat at the entrance? Such behavior of tourists is annoying.
Thank you for your video. As the title suggests $3 meals, I'd say that's not impossible to do, but I know you spent more than $3 on your 7-11 meals. $3 is about 400 yen. I think it's fair to say it was about $10 per meal. For $10, you can go to a cheap restaurant and get a meal... I was hoping to get some tips, but while interesting in it's own right, I learned nothing... and you bought Doritos? There are so many local options for snacks, and every konbini has a 100 yen house brand snack section. I laughed when you messed up opening the onigiri, because everyone does that the first time. I think the title might be a little misleading, but it's interesting all the same to see what you chose. But the title is misleading, and that does bother me a little. I can teach you how to do real $3 meals from the Japanese convenience stores - it can be done. The food won't be as diverse or interesting, and it won't include a drink, but it COULD include chips... so for people traveling on a budget. You should have titled this video something else (you know, something honest). Otherwise, slightly interesting.
I like watching this channel but the boy needs to grow some manners. Total 🚩🚩🚩When you talked about breakfast you let the lady go first. When she talks don’t monitor her duration with ‘no more talking straight to eating’ passive aggressive. She deserves better.
