Kia has truly stepped up its game in the electric vehicle sector with the introduction of this 5-door subcompact SUV. The EV3 is not just any electric car; it's a statement that Kia is ready to compete with high-end vehicles, offering an array of features typically reserved for luxury models, but at a price point that's accessible to a broader audience.
The EV3 made a splash at the Los Angeles Auto Show, captivating attendees with its sleek design and advanced technology. This was not the EV3's first rodeo, though; it had its debut during the Kia EV Day event. Built on the Hyundai E-GMP platform, the platform is known for its versatility, allowing for various configurations to suit different driving needs. The EV3 features a single-speed reduction gear. At the heart of the EV3 is the finDreams Lithium-ion phosphate battery. This battery technology is renowned for its safety, stability, and long life cycle.
In the competitive landscape of sub-compact electric SUVs, the Kia EV3 emerges as a formidable contender, rivaling models such as the Volvo EX30, Smart #1, and Peugeot E-2008. Its distinctive design language, coupled with advanced battery technology, sets it apart. The EV3 is designed to cater not only to enthusiasts of battery electric vehicles but also to attract those traditionally inclined towards gasoline-powered vehicles like the Toyota Corolla SUV, Ford Escape, and Honda CR-V.

If it ends up being a good car, a whole new market will open up for that price and range. I really like the direction Kia/Hyundai is going. 👍

the problem with EV's is the false advertising. I live in the Pacific Northwest. There is no way an EV will get the mileage that they say in the PNW. the climate matters. Its cold and wet here and lots I mean tons and tons of hills. 80% of 350 is 280. combine that with the weather and the hills. that 280 is about 200-230. Some one needs to start telling the truth about these cars.

Last year, the issue with Tesla models struggling in cold winter conditions and experiencing charging problems was primarily attributed to Tesla's budget models using Chinese-made LFP batteries to lower costs. Tesla's high-end models, as well as electric vehicle models from Hyundai and Kia, utilize superior NCM batteries, which do not pose charging issues even in cold winter weather. Rgds.

@@tae-hoonkim1292 I have a Hyundai hybrid now. Sonata. 2023 and it suffers from that. This winter gas mileage wasn’t nearly what it is now

@@kbond002 Hybrids are almost indistinguishable from conventional internal combustion engine cars (as they only use the electric motor for low-speed operation to improve fuel efficiency), so cold weather starting issues, just like Tesla's lower-spec electric cars suffered severely last winter, are not related to the battery technology of electric cars at all. The problem of decreased fuel efficiency, not starting issues, is however a common issue in all cars. Diesel, gasoline, EVs, hybrids, Hydrogen or even LPG cars also experience lower fuel efficiency in winter compared to summer.

@@tae-hoonkim1292Lol, NMC batteries are not "supperior". They last for up to 12 years, while the LFP batteries will outlast the car itself, lasting 20 years or more. They are also much safer compared to NMC.

Check on the cost of replacement battery. It might cost more than the car. LOL

Let's not overlook the crucial point that continually emphasizing lowering battery prices could perpetuate the issues seen last year with Tesla's budget models struggling in cold weather conditions. Opting for excessively cheap batteries not only risks recurring charging problems in adverse weather but also raises concerns about fire and explosion incidents. Rather than resorting to Chinese-made LFP batteries for cost reduction, it's imperative to focus on mass-producing NCM batteries, which, despite being more expensive, boast far superior technology. This approach aligns with the innovative aspect of Kia's EV3, which managed to lower costs while utilizing NCM batteries.

@@tae-hoonkim1292LFP batteries are safer than NCM batteries, they last longer and their resources are more abundant. Tesla is also going to switch to sodium batteries, which are safer, have up to 50k charge cycles, can be charged to 100%, are hardly affected by climate, etc.

Kia should capitalise on the good design with a Hybrid model option. It'll be a best seller in the range if Kia offers it!
