Well they said that she was only going to make a statement and that she wasn't taking any questions. She didn't want to say much, and that was smart of her to do so because those reporters would have pressed her for more details about her life, and she probably didn't want that. Some lottery winners and in other states have tried. The winner of over $700,000,000 million Powerball, Manuel Franco, had his lawyer with him too because the lottery wouldn't allow him to be anonymous in any way.

one of the reasons why *when* I win the lotto, I just will have to make due without a lawyer and take the L on the 46% loss before taxes. Trying to be wild and save all of it ain't worth losing it all to lawyers who will manipulate trust funds.
You really have to be cautious when hiring these people to "help" you with your money. It would be best for people to do their own research on investing and wealth management. It's also best to do a background check on these lawyers, accountants and wealth managers. Get references and such.

Re 00:39, be very cautious of who you choose as a lawyer. That one made the headlines of swindling people amd threatening amd bullying them out of their money...just like a mobster. Do background checks and check personal references on them. You can di this online in part as well by checking licensing board of they have complaints and disciplinary charges against them.

To the people speaking on her age: you don't see many of the older lottery winners blowing their winnings like you do the younger ones. And to my knowledge, she is the only person intelligent enough to not only assemble a team of financial advisers before coming to claim her winnings, but to develop a trust.
