Be warned people. As a long time captain and owner of a 42' classic yacht I can tell you with confidence that yachts are not floating efficiency apartments, especially if you are on the saltwater. Stuff wears out and breaks just sitting there. It is a harsh environment with a ton more DAILY maintenance than a home. Personally, I love yacht ownership even though I keep it at a dock in back of the house. But I know how much work they are and I know that as you get older you might not be so keen on doing everything it takes to keep your yacht running properly, if at all. And remember, if rough weather hits then it is a whole 'nother level. You have to be an active captain on a yacht or it will eat you alive. So doing it because you think it is the low cost solution might not be good advice. But doing it because you love being on the water and are willing, knowledgeable enough and physically capable to do more maintenance then yeah, why not?
You spoke to my EXACT THOUGHTS. I for sure could afford this vessel. But I’ve got a few ailments like a bad back and several bad disks in my neck. I worked in heavy industrial as a career directing and planning maintenance for a refinery . Those onboard systems are not to bad to work with “ for a healthy individual “. Unless the owner can do the work him/herself maintenance will be very high. I hate paying people to do things I can do but I find I am doing this more and more😢. What a great layout and superb use of space.
all valid points but I think the purpose of these videos is to expand the average person's thinking and get them involved in something besides Bingo....and to increase views, likes, and reach from a marketing perspective...which of course they have achieved....:-)
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate these affordable videos. I am working towards retirement live aboard, and multi million dollar yachts are not happening, but all these under 500k ones you do help me stay focused on my goal!
Adding the cost of yearly maintenance, monthly hull cleaning, higher boat insurance in FL, monthly utilities, and slip fees, you can probably afford payments on a 1M condo. And that’s not factoring in any fuel costs.
According to many experts I consulted with, the average yearly maintenance fees, over the span of 10 years, are ~10% of the value. For this yacht, it comes to $38,500 each year, for repair this, repair that. This does not include insurance, utilities, fuel. This means over $3000 each and every month. Add $1000 for utilities, insurance and fuel. For the family of 4 preparing food on yacht, probably min. $3000. The monthly total, over the span of 10 years and in today's dollars, to really live on this yacht: $4000 + $3000 = $7000. Good luck to any retiree capable of plunging that much monthly. In contrast, monthly maintenance fees for a 1500sf condo are $1000. Total for condo living: $1000 + $3000 = $4000.
One of the best layouts I've seen on a boat of any size let alone this size. I really love the mid ship engine room. Ship builders need to bring this design back for sure.
i totally agree : impressive smart design ! maybe the galley is a little "short" : no place for a real hoven AND a microwave AND a dishwasher... when you really live on board, these items would be usefull. thx to Nautistyles for sharing this visit !
Agree with DIYDaveT, My 44 sport fisher, paid for, runs me on for both fixed and variable costs around 3k a month. Do not be blind listening to these videos, expect an additional 1k a month for parts breaking or needing replacement. That is the bare minimum, granted I live in Long Beach, CA, but feel a monthly budget of 3k is a minimum. Now price in new electronics, replace a dingy, new anchoring windlass, rode and anchor. The list goes on, have owned boats for 30 plus years and hate seeing this type of video. Would love to see a reply from NautiStyles what the current owner pays monthly to keep this boat. My slip fees alone are $1400 a month, these are real numbers, not trying to be negative, larger boats are expensive to own. Purchase price is a minor factor when you consider the actual cost of owning a boat of this size. Bad info, this is not a replacement for buying house, boats depreciate, a home/condo is much better investment. Love my boat, but it is a money pit that my friends are floored when told I need a new windlass $2.5k, new canvas 8k, new batteries 3K, looking to update my 15 year old electronics 7-10k, list goes on and please do your homework.
My parents, at around the age of 60, retired to an apartment and a 36' lake cruiser up in Canada. They passed on one bit of wisdom I've never forgotten: "A boat is a hole in the water you try to fill up with money."
After owning multiple boats most of my life, they are a lot of fun, a lot of work, and a lot of money to maintain. Sold all my boats 3 years ago, and now I can rent a 48ft sea ray for 3 hours for $1036.00 + expenses and when you are done having fun, just walk away....
As a retired high speed production machine service/install tech, I especially get a kick out of Rico's excitement at discovering an ancillary equipment room with sound insulation. He even commented upon the service cavity for all the electronics; right down to it being an illuminated space. I also noticed the three forward heads shared plumbing walls. Brother, those folks looked after this boat! Scrub the boarding bridge/ dinghy hoist walking surface and you'd be forgiven for thinking this was a new boat. Great tour guys!
Space, space and more space throughout this VZ 56. The craftsmanship and design is simply amazing. This yacht was well taken care of. When you stepped into the interior, I said, “WOW.” And the tour provided “wow” moments everywhere you went. Victoria, we so enjoy when you and Rico are able to explore. The spontaneity of your reactions and comments reveal how significant features are, coming from someone that live abroad their own yacht. Great tour NautiStyles!!!
Thank you for showing this boat. One of the nicest boats I've seen by far. Realistically priced and very well organized. You both did a great job and your enthusiasm for the boat came thru load and clear. I'm putting an extra boat buck in the piggy bank this month hoping something like this will be available when I'm ready to pop.😊
just realistic? it seems a new boat of this design would come in at $3M - $4M? seems like a steal but new to motor yachts. Looks like it already sold too.
I lived on a boat much smaller than that for 4 years. My 29’ striper seaswirl. I’m still on it for 40+ hours every weekend, but now I live in a tiny home 80 yards above my dock. Buying 2 acres of land with a private dock was the best purchase of my life.
Best liveaboard so far, I could really see myself living on a boat like this and wanting for nothing. Great layout, modern yet cosy, roomy cabins and a fantastic aft deck, great find!
Yeah…Is the sub-$400K price typical of a boat like this, or is it a one-off bargain? Not a boat guy, but I was stunned by the tour having seen the price upfront. My uneducated guess would have been much, much higher…more than double.
Considering this boats age it is still beautiful and shows how well it has been cared for & maintained, i could very happily live aboard this super yacht, as it has all the space i would need, beautiful love the woodwork & the layout.
This is my favorite affordable live aboard yacht yet! What a cool boat. It would be great for exploring the Caribean or doing the great loop. Roomy and comfortable.
By far, the nicest layout I have seen you show. I like how the galley is hidden. Can not believe it is only 56'. You would be real comfortable living on board. Husband and Wife, if you had two teenagers, they would be the crew.
I know that I will never buy a boat or live on a boat and yet I find these videos rally interesting, much like watching tiny house videos, which I do too, love them.
Hey guys, love the channel. Never even thought I would like anything about boats of any type. Once i came across your channel, i fell in love with boating. I have never been on a boat, but now i want to know and learn everything i can. Thank you for opening my eyes to the world of boating and yachting.
Incredible!!!... Now don't get me wrong because Victoria and Rico have caused me to fall in luv with Bering Yachts, but this boat for a fraction of cost is just absolutely astounding as a live aboard. How could anyone not be happy with this??? Thank you both Rico and Victoria
These are my favorite boat tours. This is a yacht I could really buy if I sold my house, and I would have enough money left over to do some upgrades. This is a yacht an experienced boater can manage easily with minimal help, a huge plus. It's comfortable, fast, well laid out for 6 people to live on, easy to dock in a crowded marina, you can fish off the swim platform, what's not to like? Plus it has that sleek Italian vibe if that's your thing. Great tour as usual, you two work so well together. Thanks! 😃
When my parents retired, they bought a 54' Yacht/Sailboat and spent 5 years living on the water. They had amazing stories to tell, and amazing troubles tell! This was all back in the 80's and it was expensive then so I can imagine what it is today! This boat is nicer than theirs was, but not much! I am more of an on-land RV kinda girl myself, but I could live in a Yacht for the winter and RV in the summer!! Love your videos even though I would never buy a boat myself it is still fun to see what the water dwellers are up to!!
This is a really nice / comfortable 56 yacht ‼️ As you both have said...."and it's only 56'" for all that great layout space. Certainly am intimate space for an owner operated couple. Love the Italian influence. Also, Victoria, the cutest summer boat tour outfit!! Thanks again, guys. See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 🛥️🏝️👙🌞✨
You both are very knowledgeable in boats and it is so nice to see you showing all of the great looking boats and the spcs. Keep up the great work. It is a dream for me to live in a boat in retirement. Possibly soon :)
No need to stress out because you haven't seen the interior prior to recording. Your viewers don't know the difference, because you guys are pros! This video came off just as smooth as any you've ever done. I love your channel! ⛵🛥️🤷✌️😎🏝️🌊🏄
The only reason I wouldn't want this boat is that it can be hard to find a berth for a 56' right where I am, but it's otherwise PERFECT. I think I'd turn that crew quarters into a dedicated office/study or something like that, which is kind of a fantasy thing to have for me.
A Tardis boat; I have a hard time reconciling all that internal volume to the hull you walked around on! The interior is stunning, there are much more expensive boats that don't look as good.
Nice presentation. Love the old style analog gauges and simple controls, although needs newer electronics, radar, AIS and newer chart plotter. Would be a great vessel for runs to the islands at 21 knots. Engine room is perfect!
I just listened to some guy from the UK giving a tour of a luxury yacht. He described the helm station as containing "ship stuff " and the cockpit as a "rear gathering place". Needless to say, I enjoy listening your professional, naval, descriptions of what we are looking at.
Thanks Guys, for sharing this tour of this beautiful boat and everything else you do for us.. This boat is exactly the size and style that one person would need to live aboard. If I were ready, I would jump on this deal directly. But, I've got a few more things to clear up first. Then, I'll be looking for a 50 to 60 footer Sedan Bridge style boat. Good luck and God Bless
Pretty sweet boat, and a great video! If I were to own a boat like this one, I think I'd likely use the crew quarters as overflow for guests as you suggest. From what I see in this video, I don't think I'd have any trouble taking care of and piloting this boat by myself, so I wouldn't see myself needing a crew. I think this one would be a really good candidate for a liveaboard, too.
Best tour ever. I really enjoyed what we got to see today, really pushed all my buttons....... and the boat was nice too. Love from down under in NZ as always.
This yacht is GORGEOUS!!! I absolutely love the wood used though out the boat! Another great touch are the mirrors, which make the space look larger, and the marble in the en-suite! I only wish this was a hybrid (solar/electric & diesel powered)!
That is a really nice 56' live aboard. Surprised that it wasn't already under contract? Great job to tour before another downpour. The crew and laundry areas are definitely a surprise. That laundry area could be another bunk??
Probably one of the best I've ever seen of that type of yacht. Really well maintained. If it were mine, I think I'd rip up every piece of that teak and replace it with faux-teak, just to keep the maintenance down and appearance up. I don't want to think about how much that would cost, but it'd probably be worth it. Update the electronics and redo the exterior upholstery, and she'd be practically new again. I was really surprised how nice that interior was. Her owners must have run that AC all the time to ensure it stayed nice. Of course, you'd have to down here in Florida with this ridiculous heat and humidity. I didn't see a range on the spec sheet, but 1000 gallons of fuel would probably get you a fair distance, particularly if you keep the RPMs down. Thanks for the walk-through of this one. She's a beauty.
@MedinaMcKee Hello McKee. I am actually a McKee, as well. I never really knew my family and never met another McKee. So, I thought I would say hello. Here's something weird. This house that my wife and I rent, the previous owner's name was Jim Edward McKee. Growing up until adulthood, I went by Jim Edwards. But now I go by Jim McKee, and I sign Jim Edwards McKee for some things. Okay, that's my strange story, McKee. Take care.
I live nearby the place where this boat has been built, it's really nicely built and it's done by people who know how to build a boat. It's not only beautiful but also it's beautiful where it's not visible. High quality boat.
Thanks for posting the outside temperature in the beginning . You two always maintain professionalism , up-beat energy , sense of humor , and a welcomed informalness . Equally, important , the sharing of #NautiStyles knowledge and insights on yacht designs and features makes for informed decisions for current and future buyers .
All I can say is WOW ! The sleeping space in a 56’ boat was amazing ! The owner’s cabin was just big enough to move around comfortably and not bump into each other . The only thing is it is a bit dated , but for the price point it can be freshened up . With the amount of fuel that you posted 4x250 a couple or family could cruise for quite a while ! Thank You . Is it in Florida ?
As a Bay Area native and a teacher the real estate market has made it essentially impossible to buy a house but there are many boats and even some floating homes in my hometown I’ve considered eventually living room. A boat like this would be great, definitely more storage than my current apartment and I could turn one of the spare bedrooms into a music room.
I kept looking at the details of the wood, fasteners, joinery and the condition of the exterior trim, walls and floors. Also the cleanness of the engines, generators, tanks etc. That has to be one of, if not the cleanest well taken care of boats for its age I've ever seen! With a few upgrades (control/coms/navigation) I would guess it was a lot newer! Very well done layout making use of space! I'm a "wood" person also, so that is amazing! 4.8 of 5.0!! LOL Thanks guys!! 8) --gary
YES, I could live aboard this yacht. Not really a big fan of European design, but this was actually well done. What really sold me was the walk-in, stand-up engine room. Looked like a nice yacht harbor, where is it ?
Lovely vessel for an owner/operator. It would be helpful to know the process to purchase a live-aboard and the attending fees and costs annually to determine whether to pursue it and not waste the brokers time.
@@NautiStyles the Wednesday dance originated from the original 1960s version of the Addams family is the movie out now called Wednesday in the movie. She does the Wednesday dance as it is called.
I love this boat. This is one of if not the best boats I've seen you provide tours of. And finally, one that if a guest drives me crazy I can have them walk the plank! 🙂 Love just about everything about this one! And I'd live on it, or make my home office mobile and spend lots of my days on it, docked, moored or out on the water. And as always, a lovely video host. Oh, I might do some upgrading, renovating of the upper flybridge, but the way it is, simple and clean, I get it, not bad. One thing, I'm not much of a mechanic, that does concern me a bit when I think about buying a boat like this, and wanting to spend a lot of time on it, but I love how accessible and spacious the engine compartment is, actually eases a lot of my concern.
Curious, I've often wondered what it would cost to moor a boat like this or one larger in a big city like Miami. Would actually like to see a video of all expenses relating to living on a yacht since I guess you two have a live abord. Another great video. 385k, wow
Not the biggest fan of fly bridge boats, but this manages to pull it off and still maintain a rather sleek design in profile. Very nice boat. Could see myself using that as an affordable live aboard.
how would you not want a fly bridge, being out in the elements, with the spectacular view? what am I missing ...why don't you like flybridge? appearance only? loss of space below?
What they mean is if you can’t afford a $2,000,0000-$10,000,000 + water front house a live aboard is an affordable option…. But definitely something like this and bigger is pushing it! Well unless you know how to fix everything and I mean EVERYTHING!!
Another great livaboard video, but one question: Do any of these sell with the new owners being able to take over the slip/doc lease? Rumor has it, especially on the East Coast, that you can buy a yacht, but good luck finding any place to keep it. How about a future episode that addresses this issue? I know a couple of folks who would love to buy to then live on, but won't as they have never been able to figure out how to secure a slip / doc space. Best, -Mark
First time touring a yacht and thank you both for taking us along. Very well done. I personally felt very comfortable because you’re both very likable people. Would buy this particular one in a heart beat because it’s so beautiful and spacious. I don’t think my wife is too keen about living on a boat but for as for me, I would be right at home after serving six years in the US Navy and lived aboard a large ship all that time. Thanks again for an exciting, fantastic tour and will be watching out for more of your videos. Bon voyage for now.
When were going to sleep! It allows us to make a retirement decision on whether we want a live aboard yacht down in FL. OR and RV to travel the country! We look forward to coming on a tour with you one day❤😊
2 comments , the layout is really nice! Like the laundry room/ work space idea . That makes good sense of that area. This boat has been well maintained . By the looks of interior. Like the galley. I'd maybe add more freezer space in the laundry room for longer trips. Seems the smaller yahts add more usable space, then the 100 ft. Yahts.
I totally love you two. I have enjoyed your vids for about 3 years now, and have never been disappointed. Looking fwd to seeing you cruise on your new boat.
Love this video, I would engage the port side into the actual owner suits, combine the rooms, and make an actual bathroom and closet for the master owner suite from that port side space.
This is the first of your many yacht videos that I have watched and I loved it. Your knowledge and energy is amazing. This yacht is amazing too. thank you for making excellent videos.
