I have written it before. Of all the many Subarus I have owned the 87 dual range possibly had the most character. The low range really kicked butt for a 1800cc engine. The 5 speed seemed to have a perfect gear ratio for each gear and it was fuel injected which helped a lot on cornering. Yes many more rugged rigs out there, but few to get around 25mpg.

Once had a 2009 Suzuki Forenza Station wagon picked up for cheap. Drove it off road & daily driver, never let me down, never got stuck out in the Mojave Desert. Worked great up in till I sold it and bought a Kia-worst mistake! 🤕
I still have my 1988 Subaru 4 Wheel drive stick shift I love this car. I drive her almost daily. I just wished I could find a mechanic that can work on her and knew what they were doing in the Los Angeles, CA area.

Hell yeah 👍💯👍I got an 86 gl wagon with the hi/low range 4×4 5 speed I got it 15 years ago with only 74 thousand original miles I'm planning on getting a 2 inch lift and keeping the 13inch wheels so I can get these 165/80R13 mud tires I'm just not sure if the 2inch lift is tall enough for the 23.4 inch diameter mud tires 👍

This is called machoism Because there is no reason to drive a Subaru in difficult terrain, But we owe it to the ego. In Israel, they have even taken it one step further and only drive with front-wheel drive subarus it calls "grutarally". this is crazy all the cars are 2WD
Is there even parts support for these vehicles anymore? One of the bigger reasons I've abstained from the Leone-based Subies is that they don't seem to have much left in replacement parts.
Found this regarding the Rusty Jones sticker: Well, for those that have never heard of it before, Rusty Jones was a car rust proofing company in the late 70's early 80’s. They worked with dealers to provide an aftermarket rust proofing/ undercoating option on new cars. They drilled holes in the doors, pillars, and rockers and sprayed a tar-like substance inside all of the panels to prevent rust, and then covered the holes with plastic plugs. They also undercoated the whole underside of the car. They gained a bad reputation for causing the cars to rust more because the undercoating would clog the drain holes causing the panels to hold water. They went bankrupt in 1988.
What size tires are you running on those peugots? I have a '92 loyale with a 2" lift. Trying to decide what size tire to go with. I like the way that size looks on yours.

ive got a 91 loyal did the duel range swap 5 inch lift 30 inch tires sliders tube fenders plate bumpers all welded together and built as one peice so it works as a subframe and stiffens the whole car up a roof rack and a snorkle 2 inch recivers front and rear for the 12000lb winch i also built the ea82 for the fun of it shaved heads decked block ported and polished heads 4 angle grind on the valves ported exaust manifold and custom exhaust custom intake manifold to fit the narrowed block and heads and ported throtle body and the snorkle system that let 3 times more cold air in to the motor it dident last vary long but what a beast it had more power on 3 cylinders than the stock motor on all 4 the last run on that motor towed another loyale on a car hauler through the mountains to the shop so i could steal the motor out of it lol pulled another loyale + the trailer up a big hill on a dirt road to the garage after throwing a rod and only running on 3 cylinders i love that motor if i could only find another set of uncracked heads i might build another one but really its too much work for how long they last the ej swap is alot easyer and 100 times more reliable
Hi ! nice ride. I got the exact same model 1.8 dual range 4wd. ¿Is it permanently center locked ? i've found that it is hard to turn on grippy surfaces on 4wd and i dont want to break something
Yes, it is locked center 4 when you have the 4wd engaged. Treat it more like a 4wd truck than an AWD car. The nice thing with these cars is that if your wheels are spinning at the same speed you can put it in 4wd as you are driving at almost any speed.
The most capable off road (slow) vehicle i have ever driven was an 82 Brat with the optional super low range. it was light enough to just float across mud bogs with its big-ass tires and you just left int in D1 and floated along. top speed of about a fast trot, but there you have it.
It is difficult to find part and a good mechanic that works on older cars. I found someone for a while that fixed my Ghia but his son screwed up the clock I had in that car.

Yes, I used a universal joint from a first generation Legacy to extend the steering shaft. It was a perfect fit, no modification needed aside from taking the old coupler off and putting the new one on.
I put a 2" lift on my 08 outback from ADF and I don't have to do anything special. I installed new struts and shocks and the lift. Also there is an anti wabble kit for the drive shaft. It's to prevent a slight vibration.
only if you install the motor drop brackets typical 2 inch lift dosent need a steering exstention cause the steering box dosent move but if you drop the crosmeber then you would need a steering exstention but most 2 inch lifts dont move the crossmeber the loyal/gl cv axles can handle 2 inch over stock with out to much ware on the axle any more and your reaching the end of the axles physical limitations the cup will hit the shaft
That's awesome to hear you did that. Something I can relate to. Lived in my 1990 Loyale outside of the steel scrap yard I hauled for. That car never let me down. Saved thousands to finally acquire real estate. Comfy too in a sleeping bag diagonal

...this is Great !! ...anyone here have an idea why my 1988 gl turbo wagon (fuel injection) idles at 2500 rpm ?? ...I have checked the vacuum lines and cleaned the airflow sensor... : )
no they dont make them anymore and the spare parts the factory had got distroyed in the earthquake/sunami they had a few years ago and no aftermarket parts are available i went and bought up all the engines i could find and stockpilled parts i also picked up a few parts rigs for tail lights and headlights and what ever else i needed since these are getting harder and harder to keep running and as more and more are scaped there are only 2 ways to get parts used parts or swap the whole drive train to the ej22 but even the ej22 engines are hard to find parts for these days
