Mike Sexton was a great poker commentator. It's a shame that he left us when he did. It's great that the WPT named the Champions Cup after him.

There was one bit of commentary that was way off. At about 12:55 one commentator said Mike's chances were "up in smoke". That means the chances are gone. Since he won, obviously his chances were not up in smoke.

Poker legend, great player and my absolute favorite commentator. RIP Mike Sexton

I met Mike at the 2006 WSOP and had a chance to talk with him, as he was waiting to play in one of the side games always playing at the sidelines of the WSOP. I complimented his style of poker, and told him about my winning an entry to one of the WSOP 2K events. He noticed I was wearing an old Army baseball cap, and asked me about my service, and mentioning he had been in the 82d Airborne during Vietnam. I was a graduate of Ft. Benning's 'School for Boys', and otherwise known as Officer Candidate School, a battalion sized school near the jump towers where the 82d Airborne practiced jump conditions. That definitely broke-the-ice, and for about another half-hour, before his game, we talked like old friends...he was just that gracious a person, polite and outgoing with everyone. RIP Mike up there and hope to see you again in another life!
