Hello Silk! Hey I wanted to tell you. I just did a stamp collecting search on Bing browser and guess who was there? YOU! It was a RU-vid ad and it was you! Moving up brother, with your collection and the channel. CONGRATS my friend!

As a Canadian, we see these stamps often - they grow like grass! 😂 Saying that, I think you still got value - just on face value…and some of those Special Deliveries can be worthy and harder to find. Most of it is common to us…but it sure is a full collection for its era. It’s still a great find!

That was a real bargain, my estimate for the whole lot would be around five hundred bucks. 👍 Greets from GER, U.

You almost lost me with the Cubs talk, LOL. Beautiful collection! I think you did really well. Those mounts are so expensive, I have started getting bigger mounts and cutting them in half horizontally. It leaves the tops open so a little more care must be taken but it protects the stamps just as well.

I'm glad you didn't go to the Sox/Cubs game last night. Being a life long Sox fan it's been a tough year.

Fantastic value Mr Silk, I would have definitely bought those myself. Enjoy sorting them out. I guess the cut mounts might have been a cost saving exercise. I recently mounted my Australian collection and it wasn't cheap to do.

Agreed... and that's the same project I'm working on now. Mounts are costly for sure

Thank-you thank-you thank-you!!! This episode reminds me of the very first episodes I saw of yours when I started collecting stamps and thought " Hey, are there any stamp videos on RU-vid?" You're the first, and best, for me. Awesome Canadian collection, one of the best I've seen. Well worth it. Hazzah!

Worth the money. I would have paid that just for the ship stamps. Love the Bourne heads. You might have some higher value there -- went too fast for me to be sure, but check the black ones.

I follow the same path when valuing what stamps/stampcollections to buy. I think this logic applies for most contries. Most value on the first pages with the oldest stamps. Remember to look for condition and how the stamps where stored. If they are mounted with hinged there is a risk that the stamp hold on to the paper and could be destroyed when pulling them out. Also if I see that the newer stamps are nicely and correct placed there is higher chance for the older ones also to be correctly placed. Thx for the video.

I like british stamps. I like sheets of the australian duke and duchess of gloucester stamp. Alrhough it appears to not be worth anything. But its cheap enough

Wonderful video, thankyou. There is quite a bit to learn here and seeing the Canadian stamps has been very useful. I am currently sorting just shy of 10,000 world stamps so hearing your thoughts and seeing these stamps in some kind of order is fantastic. Canada, along with New Zealand and Australia easily make up the most of the stamps withing the 10,000.

Very nice addition to your Canada! I like the look of this collection - lots of good value there and it was also encouraging that there weren't a bunch of empty spots where the valuable ones were removed and the lower valued stuff left. If undamaged the early stuff is amazing. Also love the 90s unused - lots of very nice stamps there. Did you get these in Canada? I have found you can often get a better deal on Canada there since there is much more of that material there. However, British Empire/Commonwealth seems much more expensive. I find that you can get deals like this at very small stamp shows or stamp club meetups where collectors are selling to other collectors. My local dealer would have marked this up to something like $250-300.

My hunch is it was a buy low, sell low situation... I bet he could of priced it more aggressively, but it may have taken longer to sell...

Looks like the original owner was not a big fan of the cost of stamp mounts. Using just enough so i doesn't slip out. I must admit... pretty smart way of maximizing the cost of stamp to cost of supplies ratio. Personally, I'd rather protect the entire stamp and I also like the contrast on black backgrounds. But if I went that route, I would have used clear background mounts instead.

I am starting to wonder about the "wisdom" of using expensive stamp mounts to adhere more modern, fairly low value MNH stamps into ones album.... Use of vario sheets almost seems like a more economical way to go. I think you did OK on that Canada collection ~ you will probably have no problem filling in your 1940 - present album pages. Too bad there was no Bluenose ;-) Thanks for another informative video. And, glad you had fun at the Cubs game - I'm fortunate to have been to two Cubs games at Wrigley.

I'm working on my australian collection now, using mounts... so pricey. And I'm thinking seriously about using vario sheets

It likely would have cost at least $45 if you had purchased the stamps on the first page as singles, especially the top 2 from the 1859 set. You did very well. Canada is a beautiful country and its stamps beautifully reflect its culture and scenery. I have had a subscription with the Canadian Philatelic Agency since 1982 and Canada is the strongest foreign country in my collection at this time.
@silkontheweb
@silkontheweb Месяц назад
Agreed! And I've been meaning to ask... did you get the maxicard I sent you? I decided to send you something meaningful to me, but if you'd prefer more of a straight up trade for stamps I'd be happy to put together another package
@willardtaylor6249
@willardtaylor6249 Месяц назад
Yes, I did receive the maxi card which you sent, and I very much appreciate what you sent. It means the most to receive what is most meaningful and it found a place in my collection. I always appreciate stamps, so if you would like to get a package of them together to send, they would certainly be appreciated. I am like yourself, I enjoy going through stamps from any country and figuring out how to include them in my collection.Did you happen to see that the August issue of “The American Philatelist“ features trains & railway philately? Also, are you aware that any stamp or cover that shows “R. P. O. “ in the postmark was cancelled on a train (railway post office )? This is something to look for in older philatelic items.

This was a very good buy for 45 $. What I ask myself why someone is putting the stamps in this way to the album? It cost a lot of time end there is a great danger that they get damaged. Same looking through the pages you have to be careful. With this you have a lot MNH from 60s to 90s, that´s great.

This was an excellent purchase for $45 considering the substantial face value of the unused stamps and the existence of some scarcer older issues. One question I do have concerns the condition of the mint ones : Are they MNH with no damage or are they simply postage material?
@silkontheweb
@silkontheweb Месяц назад
A great question... I've done a bit more investigating, and it's a mixed bag. A lot are MNH and so will end up in my collection (much more than I was expecting, so I'm pleased), but some are hinged and/or missing gum
@RonDale-jy8et
@RonDale-jy8et Месяц назад
What an unusual way to mount stamps... not OG after that, I'd guess...!!
@ptrinch
@ptrinch Месяц назад
Don't see why the gum would be affected. He's just using a thin strip of mount as a belt loop. Hard to keep the stamps straight and offers less protection. But certainly cost effective.
